  1. I remember in F4 you would get warnings on all kinds of friendly radars, I mean theoretically we could could fight a war against a country with f-16's, right? No airport radar though. The procedure when suddenly locked by a friendly radar was to call on the radio "buddy spike" so whoever locked you up knows you're friendly. That was before the types of systems modeled in DCS A-10 (friendlies on TADS). and I don't think threat assesment is based on range as there's really no way to know the range of an emitting radar (I think). Rather it is based on what the radar's doing, like sweeping you every now and then (search mode) or sweeping you frequently (tracking mode) or locked on (oh shit mode). But I'm not an expert.
  2. Thanks, that seems to be it. I re-mapped center to space bar and it works fine.
  3. So whenever I click with the mouse, like to operate a switch, my view re-centers. I have recenter mapped to the cursor slew press (comes up as Joy 1.) I windows when I have the track IR window opened the same thing happens, ie when I left-click anywhere on desktop the view re-centers. What's up with that? Thanks.
  4. Page 587: Hydraulic Failure The aircraft has both left and right hydraulic systems and the failure of one still allows adequate flight control response. Failure of either the systems can be indicated by the L and R HYD RES (hydraulic fluid reservoir low) caution light or the L and R HYD PRESS (hydraulic pressure low) caution light. However, the loss of one hydraulic system will reduce rudder authority. If the left hydraulic system fails, you will lose the following systems:  Flaps  Nosewheel steering  Normal landing gear operation  Wheel brakes  Anti-skid  Hydraulic control of the left elevator and rudder actuators  Lose of dual channel pitch and yaw SAS If the right hydraulic system fails, you will lose the following systems:  Slats (will extend with loss of hydraulic power)  Air refueling slipway and nozzle hatch rollers  Speed brakes  Right elevator and rudder actuators  Lose of dual channel pitch and yaw SAS
  5. How does one update the firmware? didn't see anything about that when I opened my new HOTAS last week. Thanks.
  6. The manual is good and I find it an enjoyable read. There's alot left out though on basic tactics etc. If you have or can find a manual from Falcon 4 there's alot of good stuff there on this. Also at SIMHQ last time I looked (a long time ago). Call me crazy but I downloaded the game last week, got my HOTAS Monday, but have not yet played other than to run through a startup. Part of the reason is I'm waiting for a TIR 5 but also because I approach sims like this like I used to approach women, a long, slow courtship to build up anticipation!! Like women though when I actually play I find I know alot less than I thought I did. Anyway my courtship consists of reading the manual cover to cover (twice) and checking out these boards. When I'm bored at work at a meeting I go through the HOTAS commands in my head and if I can't remember one I sneak a peek at my phone (got the manual on it as well as other places.) Oh and the other reason I've not played yet is I'm still going through Skyrim. So I'm not sure that I'm qualified to welcome you!
  7. Great thread! I received my HOTAS yesterday, and to make sure I understand, and at the risk of seeming dense, can I / should I skip downloading the software from Thrustmaster? Everything can be done in game? Thanks.
  8. ONE of the best? Which was better? I'll admit I don't own all sims but of the ones I do Falcon 4.0 was best by far, it's still on my shelf. In fact there's alot of good info that may help with the A-10, certainly alot of things that people seem to have trouble understanding are explained more clearly in that manual. IIRC there's also alot on missle avoidance etc. I still have the reflex to beam a missle! (No dig at DCS, this sim is much more compicated so no room in manual for explanation, strategy etc. as there was in F4.)
  9. Page 537 "Note: When releasing a ripple of bombs, they will land centered around the pipper aimpoint." (emphasis mine) So for the ripple to hit the whole column pipper needs to be at center of column, if it's at head of column half of bombs will miss.
  10. #4 should be coolie hat up
  11. Hi, don't have sim yet, waiting for $$ for whole set-up. Some questions if you don't mind (better than work anyway right?!) What does cycle A-A targets do (DMS right and left short AIM-9 SOI)? What does FLIR autofocus do (DMS left short in TGP SOI)? Thanks.
