Thankyou everybody for your contributions. Wow this is turning a sizeable topic. What im getting from your answers (and from the last four hours I just spent on DCS) the best methods for acquiring targets relies on several factors.... 1-Mission assets, such as JTAC (data transfer on TAD/coordinate entry into CDU) or relying on preset steerpoints. 2-Battlefield elements, no enemy air cover means a safe high altitude orbit and lengthy use of TGP. 3-Mission Type/Requirements, I.e C-SAR is most likely fast paced and requiring quick visual contact thus requiring high speed low level passes or using your flight to "troll" for targets. All in all I feel fairly certain that it all will come down to personal preference and as always, experience. Great to hear of everybodies methods, keep em coming!

Oh hey blooze Funny you should say that. I just finished figuring out the coordinate input and CDU waypoint systems for use with JTAC. That is likely the best option but seems slightly long winded especially in a fast paced scenario. Maybe ill just have to get my efficiency up :P cheers mate

Yeah ive got my zoom controls set to work with my cougars range axis so its extremely convenient. Im limited to using one of my joystick hats as my view controls which ill admit is less than great but I live in new Zealand and track ir costs an arm and a leg here so I havent gotten around to purchasing one yet. Being a falcon 4 veteran im used to using the f-16s terrain following radar. Hmmmm I guess I may have to sit tight and wait until track ir becomes an option  my resolution is maxed btw. Thankyou for your reply

Hey there. Well the title says it all really, I seem to be completely unable to find targets in DCS A-10C no matter what method I use. Be it TGP or the naked eye. Really puts a downer on the experience when the rest of your flight annihalates all ground targets on the first run! Is there another way (preferably without using labels) to achieve visual contact? Cheers

Cougar button names in DCS A-10C?
Slayer_42 replied to Slayer_42's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Sorry mate you misunderstood me. I meant the buttons that dcs recognises so for instance the obvious ones are joy x and joy y (pitch and roll) but theres also tonnes of other buttons with less obvious names. Would like to know which names represent which buttons on the hotas. -
=Prophet= you are the man! Honestly I thought I was fairly foxy savvy but apparently not, I didnt even realise that the /I, /O modifiers were tied to s3 by default. I remember how long it took me to figure out that /U, /M, /D was dogfight switch related.... EMBARRASSING!!!! :$ you just solved all my problems! And thank you Bitmaster, you lost me at eprom but your help is very much appreciated. Many thanks!

Howdy, im looking to assign keys to my cougar via the in-game options. However, when assigning button to a key im confronted with a selection of around a hundred different names. Just wondering if anybody knows where I could maybe find a list with all these names and the cougar buttons they correspond to? Cheers

Hey there! I have an issue which is stressing me out beyond belief. What I wanted to achieve was to have my vhf hat (T2,3,4,5) which I have assigned as slew controls to also act as my A-10 coolie hat when the paddle switch (S4) is pressed at the same time. Heres how I have the "foxy" statements set up... SLEW COMMAND EXAMPLE (.tmj) BTN T4 /H Slew_Right (.tmm) Slew_Right = / COOLIE HAT (FLAG) EXAMPLE (.tmj) DEF X10 S4 AND T4 BTN X10 /H Coolie_Hat_Right (.tmm) Coolie_Hat_Right = k So what I thought I'd get when pressing right vhf (T4) on its own was a held down / key, and Vhf right with S4 should theoretically produce a held down k key. What I get in key tester when using T4 with S4 as flagged however is this.... DOWN: / DOWN: k DOWN: k DOWN: k DOWN: k UP: / UP: k So effectively im getting key presses from both statements regardless of my flag statement supposedly overriding the Slew_Right command as I had intended. This effects my ability in DCS A-10 in that I am technically unable to hold the coolie hat in a position to change my Sensor Of Interest. Note that this happens with most hats AND buttons. If you made it this far then thankyou for your time, my apologies for not being able to add photos as I wrote this whole thing on a phone :p

Hmmm thats a shame. that would just totally complete this game in my opinion :) ahwell no worries, thanx for the reply. May have to wait a while, im playing fc2 on a dinosaur of a computer, in desperate need of an upgrade to say the least :P cheers

Hey there. I was just wondering what kind of Forward Air Control Capabilities are offered in Flaming Cliffs 2. I'm fairly new to this particular simulator and have been playing around with the editor. I couldn't figure out how to set up a package with say an Su-25 acting as FAC who is able to talk me onto different targets. The closest i got was setting him up as as a totally different flight, armed with smoke rockets, and set to target specific vehicles. I tried adding an A-50 as AWACS thinking i might have to check in first, I set my own aircraft as CAS, tried the radio, nothing in there even mentioning anything to do with FAC. So is there actually any kind of FAC capabilities withing Flaming Cliffs 2? Cheers

HOTAS Cougar FOxy programming question
Slayer_42 replied to Slayer_42's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hey im back. Thanks Kuky i've finally gotten it. I didnt realise that the /U /M /D modifiers were tied to the dogfight switch without having to actually be defined as being tied to it. Well that's a major breakthrough for me and my programming ability!!!! Thanx alot Kuky. -
HOTAS Cougar FOxy programming question
Slayer_42 replied to Slayer_42's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yes i get that. That is very simple indeed. What im looking to do is have the DF Button change the assignments of all other buttons. So for instance, the Dogfight switch changes the buttons that have been assigned to ALL OTHER BUTTONS ON THE THROTTLE AND FLIGHT YOKE. DESIRED RESULT: Functions for ALL BUTTONS ON HOTAS depend on position of dogfight switch. There are no button combinations within falcon 4.0 that provide the ability to do this which is why i can only achieve the desired result via Foxy. If u still do not understand this then i dont know how else to explain it. cheers -

HOTAS Cougar FOxy programming question
Slayer_42 replied to Slayer_42's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Forgot to mention that ive already assigned a key to those positions on the DF switch. so is it possible to keep function XYZ on the /U /M /D positions but at the same time have those positions change the functions on all other buttons? (Preferably without alot of IF and THEN statements) -
HOTAS Cougar FOxy programming question
Slayer_42 replied to Slayer_42's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I think you may have misunderstood me. Ok i'll try and explain this as clearly as possible.... So there are two main modes. Air to air and air to ground which realistically are toggled using the dogfight switch. Now depending on which mode is active, the function of all the buttons varies. So for example, A-A Mode results in button 1 doing function X. Whereas in A-G Mode, the same button (Button 1) does function Y. A-A = B1 - functionX A-G = B2 - functionY So i guess what im asking is, 'is there a way of programming the cougar in such a way that has the same effect of creating two different macro files and switching between the two using the dogfight switch?' Cheers for the quick reply btw  -
Hey there. first of all id like to say hey as this is my first post here in the forums. Ok now im creating a new profile for my Cougar in Foxy based around the F-16 Block 52 (thus the F-16 controls haha). In real life, alot of the various buttons/hats have a different function depending on which mode (A-A or A-G) The aircrafts combat system is in. I want to simulate this by making the same thing happen on my cougar so without using a massive amount of IF and THEN statements is it possible to have the control functions changed depending on the position of the dogfight switch? (intended for use with Falcon 4.0 AF) Cheers :pilotfly:
