Quick and dirty Afghanistan style repint of DCS world.
JayPee replied to Stratos's topic in DCS Modding
Good to see you're still on it! -
Aight, thanks

Small question back on the 38s, Eddie once said that procedures dictate JDAMs are to be dropped on Waypoints/Mark Points and not simply on SPIs. Is this procedure sufficient: Designate with TGP generating SPI Make a Mark Point Release JDAM Or does it have to be like this: Designate with TGP generating SPI Make a Mark Point Set Mark Point as Steerpoint Slave TGP to Steerpoint Release JDAM

I'm not sure about blast damage.. Atleast for MK5 and 151 it sucks. You need to score a direct hit or it doesn't do shit, not even to an unarmoured truck..
-
Yeah but then I'll be switching it on and off all the time..

DCS A-10C QUESTIONS Is it possible to disable the gun CCIP cross in rocket CCIP mode? I keep having huge trouble distinguishing the decimal seperator dot for the gun cross' range indication from the centre dot of the rocket CCIP reticule. Or put simply, this freaking cross is blocking my vision!

DCS A-10C QUESTIONS 44 mils would suggest that e.g. at 10 km out the width of the screen covers slightly less than 1/1000 * 10.000 * 44 = 440 metres. That's quite a lot actually. I'm saying slightly less because 440 is technically the bow length of the 'pie slice' whereas we are treating it if it were the straight line between the edges of the bow length. By the way, are you talking about the normal FOV or narrow FOV, given the values I assume the normal one.

Only, and I mean only, use the manual to get an idea of the CDU pages hierarchy/structure. If done so, watch youtube vids and try messing around with the basic functions as stated in this topic. After a while when you feel more confident about using the CDU, take a look at what the manual has to offer. Although I doubt it will offer you anything useful by then... On this part the manual is an unnecessarily complicated piece of work, telling you things you really don't care about and leaving the essential operations of the tiny little thing out.

Do the villages and trees mod affect FPS? I know Tobys terrain doesnt.. Thanks
-
GBU-38's inaccurate or is it me? And all this was present in early alpha builds? Nevertheless, are you aware of ways to mod DCS into having JDAMs work more like the real thing? Thanks for the lesson. PS for those interested, an explanation of the LAR in general: http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/weapons/q0250.shtml

Yeah, insane isn't... 500 bucks for a bomb and another 59 and a half grand for a guidance tail kit. But the problem is likely to be R&D costs which you're done covering for on a 40 or so year old dumb bomb design.
-
The JDAM kit should ideally have a way to calculate a TVV so it could place the TVV over the target coords instead of the nose.
-
GBU-38's inaccurate or is it me? Whereas common sense would suggest it should over compensate and point the nose to an off set point if it detects heavy drift. This way would lead to the principle of always reducing whatever distance is left by half... You'll never reach the finish.
-
GBU-38's inaccurate or is it me? OK. This would indicate that the bomb's flight control surfaces cannot counteract the wind's forces and gravity sufficiently. Or that the body in general is still suffering from bare model as it is built to free-fall and not to actually fly. However, I'm still sure the GPS module is aware of the fact that the bomb is off course and headed for the wrong coords.
-
GBU-38's inaccurate or is it me? Hmm, possibly. Yet that would indicate the bomb is continuously referencing its release point and comparing its own position along the line between release point and target. While the ultimate purpose of a GPS system is knowing one's own actual position with great accuracy, instead of something predefined or compunted, to know where you are in relation to your target destination. I see it like this, whether I'm driving my car, it is towed, it is on the back of a trailer, or if a hurricane is throwing it around, the navigation unit inside knows my current location at all times. Hence it can tell me the heading, distance, and preferred route to my target destination. If I take a wrong turn (wind pushes the bomb significantly off course) I will recieve a correction immediately. So ultimately I will always arrive at my target, except when I run out of time, that is, when the bomb's about to hit the Earth's surface. If for some reason it is correct in what you say that although the bomb's GPS module is aware of the situation but it can't correct any more, than what about these comments on JDAMs traveling around objects and hitting targets from behind? I'd say that requires a great deal more corrections and manoeuvrability than fighting cross winds..
-
GBU-38's inaccurate or is it me? I'm sure you have a reason for this statement but I can't find the logic in it.. The bomb knows the target L/L and the bomb knows its own position in 3D space at all times as it is continuously (?) communicating with four GPS satellites. So whatever external factors are in play like the position of the launch platform and wind, the bomb knows where it is and where it should go. If wind pushes the bomb off its own defined track, the GPS would notice that and simply correct for it?
-
Most efficient way is not missing, obvsly.
-
GBU-38's inaccurate or is it me? Time I start making use of MK Z because it's easy to re-engage if (hardly ever happens, duh! ;) ) I miss...
-
UFC shift functions allow access to all CDU pages regardless of the rotary switch. Btw, when deploying weapons, is Mark Z created at the jet's coordinates or is it created at the current SPI (target in this case)? Most of the times it is going so fast by the time I think of checking Mark Z I'm not sure anymore whether it was a target or possibly my position.
-
GBU-38's inaccurate or is it me? Bombs are fine. Its the creation of mark points by TGP SPI thats the issue.

Carrying multiple Jamming pods Two TGPs is probably like having two women at the same time... Fun guaranteed 24/7 yet they keep conflicting somehow. For real now, at least in-sim it does nothing. Last time I checked it picks up the feed of the right pod, the left is just hanging there. Also, how would you imagine this to be working in real life? You'd need constant monitoring of the jet's pitch and roll to loosely predict when the wing or fuselage will block one pod's view and take over the feed of the other. On top of that you need to program angles for every adjoining piece of ordnance as they all have different shapes blocking the pod's view as well. Or you'd need to use both MFDs for the TGPs but that would mean no TAD or CDU.

I'll try again during one of the upcoming evenings and if I still encounter the problem I'll post a track. When ingressing from the IP in Mission Hideout I was trying to tag all four stationary BMPs with a Mark Point to drop four 38s in the same first pass from 20,000 MSL.
-
GBU-38's inaccurate or is it me? Hmm, guess my Mandarin sucks cause the 38 still landed long of the parked BMP...
-
Why? SPI's constantly updated so when new info's fed, new info's taken into account. If all goes well...
-
OK so for now it is area track unless tracking a moving object. Nice to have a confirmation on the procedure tho.
