VRK - a virtual reality enabled kneeboard with touch and ink support
AMVI_Rider replied to AMVI_Rider's topic in DCS Modding
Not at all. Active kneeboard is selected on the base of the "closest" to where you are looking at. I considered the dual tablet case but it seems not necessary. -

Have you checked the switch that disables the buttons? It's on the side of the tablet. -

A quick procedure to check if DCS integration is working (that's good for anybody who has problem with DCS integration). To avoid clogging the thread, please send me the info via PM. In case something of general interest will come out I report here. 1. Check if the lua script [1] is present If not, check the VRK config "DCS User Directory" which should point to DCS directory in sved games, (re)install the hooks and recheck If still doesn't appear, please send me your VRK log [2] 2. Check if the lua is generating the output file [3] If not... run a mission with kneeboad (MP if possible, SP is ok anyway) and recheck. If still doesn't appear please send me your DCS log [4] and VRK log [2] 3. if both are ok and still not working then we are ***ed, but send me VRK log [1], DCS log [2] and the lua output file [3] anyway. [1] Lua script: <DCS_SavedGames>\Scripts\Hooks\VrkGameGUI.lua [2] VRK log: C:\Users\<windows_usersname>\Vrk\Logs\vrk.log [3] Lua output file: <DCS_SavedGames>\Logs\VRK.log [4] DCS log: <DCS_SavedGames>\Logs\dcs.log -

There are no options for controlling anything about the IPD when adding overlays to applications. You can try putting the Kneeboard further away and increse its size. Anyway, what HMD are you using? To enlarge the focus area, which ease keeping the focus on when you are reading at the border, you can increase the value of the "Focused Focus Factor" (both H and W). As a last resort you can also increase the "Unfocus delay" which will add some time before triggering the transition focused->unfocused and helps filtering head movements when checking instruments. -

Oculus implementation has a bug preventing that function to work. Gruman reported few days ago. Fixed in the upcoming 1.2.3.10 which is already packed and will be released soon. -

That's correct ... you will also need to play with yaw and roll for the orientation. Or wait for the 1.3 that will include two kneeboards :music_whistling: -

Probably because the max pressure is not reported correctly. Latest version introduced hysteresis on pen tip to reduce click bouncing. Long story short: to disable hysteresis just switch to relative buttons. Can you send me the log file (via pm) so I can check the max pressure value? -

This is something that I have in mind since the very beginning of the project. Without some technical support from ED it becomes a huge effort. Nothing impossible, but simply not worth the amount of time to spend on it, moreover considering alternative solutions are already there as Neon pointed out (+ pen and paper). -

Hi, content panel is defined around the DIN A5 aspect ratio, but the content is expected to keep aspect ratio. white content should be added. I will check for regressions! You are looking for "Toggle VR" function. -

Yes it was supposed to be out some weeks ago (I recorded it already), but the concept of configuration will change quite a bit with the introduction of the profiles. I will do another one with the new version. -

There's a strange behaviour of the Huion device I observed. If the pen is in proximity of the drawing area when you connect the USB it will stop reporting data. This combined to the fact that current VRK public version does not support reconnection may be your case. Upcoming VRK version will support device reconnection so you will need to restart VRK anymore, still, I-m investigating the behavior of the device. You can switch between VRK drivers and Huion drivers from device manager: Select device, properties, Update driver, Browse my computer, Let me pick . It will require a reboot and you need to remember to rollback before flying. TBH I would not suggest to switch unless you are quite comfortable with devices and device manager. -

Well nobody tried it yet, The 1060p is a more sophisticated unit (i.e. the recording capability). It's a 50/50 chance. If your are looking it for an exclusive VRK use I would not recommend because it's huge (and the risk above). If you want to share it for drawing remember that the custom driver used for VRK will block normal operation of the tablet on VRK machine. If you want to go for it, please let us know if it works, and, if it doesn't we may try to add compatibility. -

I see nothing bad in your log, but do you have another log file called ovrdet.log in the directory? If it doesn't exist it's because VRK is not even trying to start DCS which is usually caused by the two usual suspects: - VR is disabled in the config - vrkovrlaucher.exe is missing Anyway to debug this I need you configuration file and the shortcut you use to start VRK. To avoid too much text in the thread I suggest you to send me via PM or email. The configuration is stored in: C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Local\VRKneeboard\VRKneeboard.exe_StrongName_<whatever>\1.2.3.5\user.config Same applies to you, but please also send me your log so I can look into it. Please be patient if I ask the same thing multiple times, I'm trying to help the most of you I can and sometime I mix things. I promise that starting from the next version it will be easier to setup Oculus and I will add a video showing how to :music_whistling: -

Yes it is vrkovrlauncher.exe Your setup seems OK, can you send me both VRK log files? Location is C:\Users\<your_username>\VRK\Logs I guess it is due to pen tip reporting multiple on/off and generating skips. This has been fixed for custom driver, I guess it's time to port the same to WinTab. -

When you buld the link you should point the dcs.exe which is in the install path. The procedure will not let you to continue without it so I guess you did it right. It happened to another user few days ago: it's probably your AV that blocked/deleted the ovrlauncher.exe which is part of VRK. Check you AV logs/quarantine, restore it and create an exception. The next version of VRK will include a specific check for ovrlauncher.exe and notify the user to check the AV if it has been deleted. -

Try playing with VR position in configuration, Y value will bring the kneeboard up and down. It's the same to me, discord has less latency but the forum is ok too. No keybinding needed. You should see the kneeboard from the main menu already. Do you should start DCS with the custom link created from VRK? -

It is not possible to be use the mouse because the kneeboard is only overlayed on the sim (which is managing the mouse). The two possibilities are: - use of a pen tablet - configure buttons and hats on a joystick/hotas/keyboard -

Feeling of Wacoms is slightly superior, but Huion price is appealing and performance is at par. "Issues" statistics are mostly at the same level, but it's almost always a matter of "being used to the device". The custom driver is nothing dangerous. If you know the matter it is a WinUSB derivative and the binaries are provided and signed by MS. Anyway, I don't want to push any choice ... it's just to avoid misconceptions. The usable space is why I left my Intuos S to workplace note taking (and WinTab debugging). Never tried, but it got pretty good feedback. It seems the best choice. My suggestion is to try with a cardboard mock-up and see by yourself. Function buttons are extremely useful and most of the time better than gestures. Moreover gestures don't cover the full set of functions performed by buttons. An alternative is combining the One and another controller. -
