  1. A stall can happen at any airspeed and at any attitude, It is dependent on angle of attack. If you pull back on the stick and exceed a wing's maximum AoA the plane will stall no exceptions, With or without slats or other high lift devices. Airplanes like the Bf-109, so I have been told, had very high stick forces and the pressure required to pull the stick and raise the AoA at a given speed must have been pretty high, DCS as with many sims tries to simulate this by making you pull further back on your stick. eventually your virtual pilot may not be strong enough to pull the stick far back enough to exceed the wings maximum angle of attack. I think that this happens at a higher airspeed in DCS vs Il-2 or whatever.
  2. How can you just calculate how long it would take an aircraft to turn, I would like to see the science and math behind your conclusion:thumbup:. Also what about earlier A model 190s, like A-5s, I agree an A-8 would not turn with a D-9 but correct me if I am wrong, weren't the earlier As lighter? There are also many more overlooked aspects of the aircraft you are comparing. The 190 may have a higher lift airfoil, but what about the mustang's lower wing loading, even things like the center of mass or other parts of the aircraft that may produce aerodynamic forces can have an effect on turn performance. EDIT: I also don't see how people defending Luftwaffe aircraft can pull the "less than optimal condition" card but we spit and 51 fans cant say the same for a Russian test.
  3. I did not buy the Dora but in multiplier I found it easy to out turn under normal conditions. The only time I had trouble was at high speeds say 270+ mph as a rough guess, or when he dropped flaps, but when I suspected this I took the fight into the vertical and has success that way. 190 rolls better, I expected this. The 51, at least on paper should turn better I think, as it has a lower wing loading, and I really don't think laminar flow is as bad as people say it terms of lift production as well. I have noticed many people quote only the tip airfoil section's CLmax value for those heated P-51 debates,(who am I to talk, I'm no expert, just suspicious). In terms of vertical performance the Dora has a pretty significant advantage it seems. Even when he tried to keep turning with me they seemed to have much more vertical capability, I would even occasionally see him stall or drop a wing multiple times and he still had ample performance in the vertical. I know I shouldn't talk tactics about a plane I have not flown yet but the Dora just seems like it should be kept fast, even if it can turn on part with a 51 why give up that advantage in vertical performance. I feel like it would be much more beneficial to Boom and Zoom or energy fight in it.
  4. I would recommend a hard turn into him. What I do on the defensive is simply turn with my lift vector pointed into him and hope for an overshoot.:D I find climbing and chopping throttle is not very effective and limits follow up maneuvers if he misses and overshoots, there's no energy left. The other thing I would like to mention is try not to think in terms of "moves", AC is fluid, utilize good BFM, there are plenty of good resources out there to help learn them. http://scilib.narod.ru/Avia/Bonanni/bonanni.htm#01-01 http://www.demovfw.com/firstfighterwing/1stVFW/Fighter%20Combat-Tactics%20and%20Maneuvering.pdf I would also recommend practicing tight, sustained turns at various speeds, flap settings, and altitudes, what I do is pull only to where I'm comfortable then ease into the buffet. Over time you get quicker at it. I use one to two notches of flaps during maneuvering fights, sometimes three at the top of vertical maneuvers (if I really, really need to). Remember that the 51 is all about energy, try to keep vertical maneuvering speed and be disciplined. Turn smarter not harder:smartass:
  5. Ok so I am not new to FC3 but have not put too many hours into the sim, and I have done my best to educate myself for the most part on dealing with the modern threats of air combat. I am mostly a WWII/WWI guy so 1980s-2000s jet combat was a real shocker to me so please forgive my noobishness:D. I think that this would be a good place to start a thread on IRCM tactics, and how missiles and countermeasures work in the game logic. Now, to my real question: I was wondering about the best ways to deal with close range missile launches and or delaying/denying launches with the appropriate use of countermeasures, I get the procedure of putting it on the beam, break into it, if its pulling lead on you it looks like its sitting still so jink! etc. I use lots of flares and or dropping out of burner but I am still having trouble. I can't really show what I'm doing via forum so I can't be told what I'm doing wrong maneuvering/positioning wise. Besides, I feel the best question would be are there any ways to make it more difficult for the missile to track or lock with the use of preventative flaring and a power reduction before the merge(besides avoiding this situation all together:thumbup:). I hear this does not work in the sim for the moment but is a good habit to develop. I would also like to know about how missile seekers and guidance is handled in the sim, would real tactics be of any use against them (if I knew any)? Any help would be appreciated.
  6. Got a new machine :D but I came here to get DCS world and it tells me it will take a day for each file, whats going on, I tested my speed at toast.net and it aid my internet was way quicker than what it said downloading DCS.
  7. Heheheheh, get a 10,000 foot altitude advantage and dive like mad and it can be done.:D
  8. I went on a server, me versus some other guy, not naming names, you know who you are, but he was the admin. We fought and I killed him twice. Apparently though, he got upset and or rage quit, or kicked me. I want to know if anyone here has been kicked for being "too good". This is simply poor sportsmanship and irresponsible. If you cant take the heat don't be admin and fly. If you wanna fly keep your mouth shut and deal with it, I die too, but I don't rage when it happens. If you want to admin, keep yourself in check, it's a game.
