  1. True, I forgot about that. However, not everything posted here ends up being uploaded there too.
  2. Well, maybe this should be in the forum support. If so, then I apologize. However I have been coming to these forums since FC (I barely post though), and I must admit it is very difficult to find what I am looking for in the current structure, ie files, tracks etc. I mean, there are a lot of very good things being shared by the users here in terms of files (documentation, missions, skins, training documents and vids, etc.) that are either very interesting or very useful for new users/players. However, good luck finding them! Unless you are really looking for something specific (which very often these are the kind of things that you never think of looking for, you just see them ad go: cool! I could use that), you will never see them unless you check every single posts every day, or go through everything. There should be a sub-sections for such things (missions and tracks, files and utilities, training material), which would be soooooo useful. I mean, imagine the new user that comes here, just started playing flight sims (which is what we want, right? more new simmers to keep ED alive so they can provide us with more awesomeness), and he needs to either make new posts (we all know that most people are lazy and don<t do that) to request for something they need, providing they know that they need it, or search the entire forum (see previous laziness comment) or go through everything (see previous laziness comment, and read it again and again). I just think it would make things so much easier, user-friendly and ergonomical, and everyone would benefit from it (how many great files/vids/missions are buried in the middle of 10 pages threads throughout the forum). Just to give an example, the OF forum (just talking about their forum, not the sim, so no comparing the 2 :P). When you go there, you know exactly where to look and within seconds you find a lot of useful user content. Just my 2 cents :)
  3. *double post sorry*
  4. Personnally, and without shame, I must admit being an avid gamer, and having tons of game and, shamefully, almost never paying for them (yes, I admit it), except for a few PS3 games (like Rock Band that I cannot get enough of) and the rare FPS that I enjoy playing online with my close friends. Yes, I love FPS. They are games like any other, and there is no shame in it. It's not because one is a simmer that he should be an elitist and bash other game types. With that being said however, ED games (since LOMAC, which, along with Falcon AF, are the games that really got me into flight sims, then last ones I had really try being Gunship and Falcon 1.0 on my 1040STe), I have gladly paid for, and would pay all over again if I had to. I bought Lockon Gold, FC2, BS and A10 since day 1, and will probably buy the DVD version. This from someone who hates paying for games that I play with for a few days. 60$ really is a steal, considering that this is the same price I paid for the few FPS games I 'legally' own and only play 6-7 hours a week for 3 months, and DCS will last me for years. That is without mentionning the community which is much, much better than 'that popular FPS', full of flaming, retarded, l33t-wannabee pre-teens. Seriously, I love the sim community, this one here included. Hell, I too would have paid 100$ wihtout thinking. Games that provide you so many hours of fun are worth it (look at RockBand, I spend over 500$ in games, instruments and mods, without mentionning all the songs I bought, because it lasts me for years, and not jsut hours). Seriously, this game is made by a small team (compared to major titles that have usually teams of 15 to 100 poeple, a few of my friends working in such big studios), and has thousands of man-hours behind them spread over a few years. Now taking into consideration the niche market it sells too (not millions of copies like FPS games), they need to pay for that time they put into and feed their familly. I think 60$ is actually well under the value (offer and demand). As someone stated above, what would really help is better exposure (which unfortunately costs money, which is difficult to get when you have such a small pool of potential buyers. Sims are not for everyone). And for us to advertise it ourselves is how we can actually help, and not proposing ridiculous price slashes to and already extremely inexpensive (for what you get) product, and hopefully ED will continue making amazing sims for the few of us for years and years to come. Wow... writing whikle working on the phone is difficult, I think I lost track of my train of thought through half of that long and painful rant of mine. Apologies :P And apologies for the spelling mistakes: troubleshooting till technical issues on the phone as I type
  5. There's not many ways to do this, so it pretty much is similar to yours :P Except that I removed the obvious functions (trigger, weapon release, slew) and shrank it to fit on one page that I attached below my monitor. I do find yours easier to read though, so I might use it instead ;)
  6. That is eerie... I actually spend 30 minutes last night making myself a HOTAS chart like this before going to bed... only to get up to see an already made one posted. *head desk* Nice job btw, very useful! :)
  7. If someone, or some online squadron would be up for the task, I remember a few years back following courses through the Check-Six Fighter School, for Falcon (training done on AF but all pilots were playing OF). You would be matched up with a teacher, with an online calendar of availability, and then you went through a fully detailed cursus with an evaluation at the end of each module. You could not continue the training until you passed, and often you would get things to practice on your own between sessions. It was extremely well planned and done, and I must admit the community behind it put a lot of efforts. Sorry though the site is in French, but it can give an idea. Of course the entire program is accompanied by documentation which is available on the site. Even the teachers before being able to become a squad leader needed to clock 40 hours of teaching :P http://www.force27.com/c6/edc/general.htm And the extensive documentation they put together (these guys are freaks!!!! :P) http://www.checksix-fr.com/articles/article.php?n_rubrique=27
  8. I must admit, when I saw it, it opened up my mind :music_whistling:
  9. I have to agree with everybody here; Vista will bring noticeable performance improvements, especially if you go in 64bits, at the minimum from the extra GB of RAM or so you will be able to use. I would advise against setting up a dual boot though, for 2 reasons: 1- After 10+ years, the Windows compatibility mode finally works much better than in previous windows versions 2- You have a free Windows XP virtual machine that comes with vista. It's not part of the installation, but you can download it for free from MS website (the Virtual Machine and the XP image). It is 100 times better than VM Ware, for the fact that there is pretty much no installation, except the VM (which takes 60 seconds to install), and the XP installation is actually a pre-installed VM file, so you just need to unzip it and you are good to go (total time took me 15 minutes from downloading to having XP running). Also it uses all the capabilities of your hardware, unlike a regular VM
  10. Tanks a lot m8!! This is a great document!
  11. The quality is quite acceptable, and am very happy to have them in the game, but the videos 14-15-16 (F-15 lessons 3-4-5) are in Russians though...
  12. Well, I am personally looking forward to it. Compared to what it would cost me to have a Cougar with force-sensing (and hall-sensors in the throttle, and replacements for all those highly breakable parts), this is one hell of a good deal. Of course it is not for everyone, and instead of complaning that it is too high-end, you should be happy that Saitek is providing various options at various prices for everyone (x-52, x-52 pro, and now this). Just like not everyone want and need the greatest, not everyone needs and wants the average or bare minimum. And regarding the reviewer's credential for comparing the stick to a F16/F22: http://www.simhq.com/_aboutus/panther.html
  13. Very nice work Sbern. Would you be able to post how you made the mod?
  14. Timm: Thanks, I wanted to make sure. For a sec I thought I was gonna loose my mind trying to figure out why I couldnt see the profile :P Shrubbo: Very nice post, and very useful!
  15. I updated everything too, and cant see any BS profile there. Unless you are talking about the gamelist recognized by TIR to which you can assign a profil (Flight by default)? If thats what you mean, then yes I have it, but it aint a profile...
  16. That all makes me miss my first puter; a good ol' Apple IIe. *sigh* The good days of the 5.25" floppy, reversible (remember that the Pole Vaulting in Epyx Summer Games was on the b side). My dad had bought a fancy connector to hook it up to the 21" inch color TV; PacMan in color! Then there was the 1040STe (Atari); never played so many games in my life on that baby, including the original Falcon Damn I feel old
  17. Definitely TrackIR gives similar results, however one thing about TIR; it's for PC only. Now, being able to use that in console applications (especially the WII), would change gaming as much as TIR as changed flight sims.
  18. As I was playing the F15 campaign, my computer gave me a BSOD and the campaign files got corrupted. Can anyone provide me with the F15 campaign files, so I do not have to reinstall and lose everything? Thanks!
