This is what you see in VR with the "Improved" Spotting Dots with no way to turn them off. This is not an exaggeration. It is not a label. It's a disaster for anyone playing in VR not using a Pimax Crystal (which "For a limited time only, use code DCS2024 when purchasing your Crystal Light to receive a credit of 15,000 ED Miles, worth $15 at checkout in the DCS e-shop!") per: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/newsletters/a41b9e43c3c80f1fa3be25612a9c1db3/  🤨

Hi, we are aware of the feedback but thank you for the poll.

We wont be having a hotfix, but we are looking to make changes in the next patch, I am currently helping the team tweak VR settings internally.

    thanks

So if I understand well.. we have to swallow a system that a lot of us won't need and that clearly isn't working as intended and wait for parches that are at minimum some weeks away and that could or not improve that system.. that's great.

I think here we have 2 problems:
    - Testing phase concentrating in Pymax Cristal visor. When Q3 with difference visor most used for the community in VR, pol is indicating that with 23,5%.
    - Needed to use QV Foavated. For me I don't care to have it integrated in DCS but I don't like. Lot of users continue using OpenXR toolkit, mandatory for very good experience, setting up resolution override (for me best way to do it, better than meta app, ODT or OTT) and postprocessing colors.

For sure, if you are dealing with this 2 conditions, improved spotting dot OFF works properly. Rest of setups, piece of <profanity>.

One clear example is when in dogfight, if enemy extends or bugs out more then 2 miles you can not see the aircraft shape, you see a very nice black square maneuvering....

Pimax crystal also have the same issue.. I really dont know how is working fine for some people..

You don't understand our request. We want to be able to turn them off like before the last update. We don't want this and never ask for it.

This, I suffered this improved spotting before.. It made me leave the sim for weeks or revert to the last build. If ED is going to force all of us to play with them let's say clearly from now to avoid purchase more modules..

    Yes, I hate these dots.

We’re aware that smart smoothing is not working properly. The dev team is scheduled to rework this feature.

Thanks you, yesterday achieved some perfect flights.. but seems that there are problems from DCS side too, need to make a try in the other sims to compare. I'm trying to get access to the beta too.. with no success for now.

  6. Recently upgraded from a G2 to a Crystal headset and have encountered significant issues with motion reprojection. When using OpenXR, enabling smart smoothing seems to have no effect or causes flashing artifacts on the screen. With SteamVR, the reprojection is erratic, not locking to the expected 72 or 36 fps, leading to a stuttering experience.

Additionally, I've noticed that in DCS, limiting the fps to 36 yields inconsistent results. Initially, there's stuttering, possibly due to texture or asset loading. However, after some time flying over the same area, the performance smooths out and I turns butter smooth. At this point I can assure that the experience is ideal.

The visual quality and FOV are far superior than the G2, And the comfort of the headset seems good, but the lack of fluid motion is concerning. From my research, it appears that these reprojection issues have been ongoing for some time.

Fluidity in VR is crucial for me, and I would greatly appreciate any assistance or advice you could provide to resolve these problems.

Tried in a 7800x3D, 64GB Ram, 4090 and Nvme drive. After some hours I even make a new windows installation but remains the same.

    Thanks

  7. I'm really enjoying your campaign, it's true than the voice acting and the quantity of dialogues is low compared with another devs campaigns, but I am surprised with the love you put filling the map with units and the choose of the missions background. I'm on mission 7 and have the feeling that I'm going to see the major events for the russians during the syrian war.

Thanks and keep the good work.

Most of the mirrors in the Phantom are mechanically locked and cannot be tilted IRL. You can easily see that in the 3D model as well if you check its back.

Some can be adjusted very limited by ground crew, not inflight. This will be made available by us eventually.
Tiltable mirrors are a bit complex to setup on the technical side.

Regarding the default angle, I have to check back with the SMEs, but I vaguely recall that they have been used mostly to check flight control surfaces and not to spot enemies behind you or similar. As in, I believe it was supposes to have such an angle - but I will doublecheck it, its been a year or so already 🙂

Hi Cobra, regarding the image quality on the mirrors.. why is so poor compared with the F-14 ones ? Could be possible to add a option in the special options tab to enhance the quality of them ?

    Thanks

It's a normal map error and here's a quick fix: adding the following 2 lines to the customized cockpit will address the issue

    image.png

Can't be true !! Please, tell me the name of the file which I need to modify, or if is called customized cockpit where is located  ?

    Edit : I find it ! Is the description.lua inside /Mods/Aircraft/Mirage-F1/Liveries/Cockpit-F1CE/default

Thank you a thousand times!! Now I can enjoy this module. You're a Master mate!

MSAA enabled basically breaks the process. It means that only the downsampling step will work (0.XX), it doesn't do the upsampling step. So you end up with a lower resolution and lower frametimes, but pretty bad image quality.

The upsampling works because I tried various values 1.5,2.0 and 3.0.. and the image looks a lot better (with a performance loss of course)

Thanks for the tips, guys. I think I'll just tinker with the damper setting and spring tension (I use the stock one BTW). Did some flying today and the whole setup feels "good enough". I'm sure after few days I'll get used to this minor "stiction" and won't even think about it anymore. There are more pressing issues that bother me right now - performance shenanigans caused by 2.7 patch, but that's a different kettle of fish!

Received mine yesterday, and only tried it a few minutes, but the damper have an odd "dead zone" until it starts dampening.. need to give it a good try tonight, don't know if is the same problem you have.

  13. If this helps the first time I play this mission after the campaign launch it worked fine. Today I'm trying to play directly through mission editor and behaves like the other folks said. No refuel and the planes crash to the ground. My settings have not changed.

EDIT  : Found that the problem was VAICOM interfering with the scripted comms. Without it all works fine.

  14. In my case (after some deads ) this is how I managed to kill the 4 flankers :

When they turn to right, I speedbrake, and when the third one is passing above me I shoot two amraams to the ones forward, then inmediately launch an Aim9x to the one at the right with the helmet and last another to the one who pass above me.

Is hard to get the right timming but the R-73 are too deadly to allow them to fire

I think fictional setting is interesting because it allows development in a completely new direction. Developers could go crazy with this, for example going head to head against prototype aircrafts that don’t exist in the real world or ground attack on futuristic sci-fi ground vehicles that requires multiple missiles or bombs to take out, with your regular Hornet squadrons...or something that would be straight out of Independence Day movie.

True, but I personally don't like that.. In fact, one of my fears when buying the campaign was this, but fortunatelly after some missions I haven't see nothing like that, the combat is pure DCS, with the exception of the buddies for obviously reasons..

    Im through the campain now.

All the time had the feeling, that the plane felt at times sluggish, as if it was tweaked. Also often buttons were disabled.

Not the style of campaign I like. Thats what I wanted to find out in the first place.

The buttons are disabled at mission start before you get the control of the plane. After that everything is up to you. I don't find anything strange in the flight behavior.

  17. I'm another one enjoying this great campaign. At first was the less appealing of the six new campaigns, because I never liked the fictional countries and the strange history of ace combat kind of games. But don't know why, but I buyed it at saturday morning and was hooked the rest of the weekend.

I'm a newbie father with a 15 months daughter, and don't have nearly any free time, so the possibility to play missions of 30 minutes is great. The campaign is great, the music is superb, and a very good voice acting and interesting missions. Is true that some are very easy, but there are challenges too. These damn Mig-29..

Haven't finished the campaign yet, but I hope it sells well and you can do another one.

My G2 headset turns itself off after a period of being idle and the only way I have found to get it working again is to cycle the power supply to the video cable. Fiddling with SteamVR will not work. Is there a better way?

Try disabling and enabling it in the device manager
