  1. Great looking way to set it up Fuzzy, and I like the idea of the "no wires" rigging!! My headset is a Corsair 1300 Vengeance, which has a pretty flat side piece that I clipped onto. It's a good snug fit, and looks nice and safe, but I'll probably end up putting a ziptie on it like Cookie did on his. I've already decided, that if the clip breaks, I'm just gonna mount it to the headset with hot glue and be done with that! lol. I figured the best way to avoid breaking it, is to not whack it on anything, so I put a hanger on one of my shelves, so that when I take it off, I just hang it up where it can't bang anything, or get banged very easily at all. I'll admit... it could be much better built, but mine seems nice and snug and pretty safe so far *fingers crossed*. My bet is TrackIR comes out with an upgraded clip soon, as this seems to be a widespread complaint of a very good product. Matz
  2. Oh... I so feel the same!! LOL!!! The hardware is definitely helping to level the learning curve a bit... but when it starts out as extreme as the DCS A-10C, there's only so much you can do with hardware. This one just simply demands time in the seat and in the literature. I'm really learning to take pride and appreciate the sense of accomplishment that comes from all of the "Baby Steps"... 'cause there ain't any learning this one in a week or a month! I have lots of time I can devote to learning this sim, but trying to move too fast seems to rapidly prove to be counter-productive more often than not. I read threads where pilots are thrilled with an in-flight refuel... trust me, you're gonna see a new thread from me when I reach the point that I can fly around picking out runaways randomly, and putting it down on the donut 5 outta 10 tries!!! I would like to add a disclaimer though. If you are serious about accepting the challenge of mastering a real, truly hardcore sim... then DCS's A-10C is exactly what you want. Also, to all you guys I keep watching shredding this thing in YouTube videos... a major hat tip to you all! Please keep posting them! They are a serious inspiration to keep moving forward!! Cheers, Matz
  3. Nigel... haven't got to set up the Cougars yet, but you'll be a smiling "Kid at Christmas" when that TrackIR arrives!! ;) Matz
  4. I now know EXACTLY what you mean!! With the headset on, the engines whining, glancing over the edge of the cockpit down below... it's as if everything in the room disappears!!! I have a flatscreen TV mounted above and to the left of my desk and had been watching some basketball... after about 30 minutes, it was as if it wasn't even there!! Incredibly immersive!!!
  5. Thanks for the pointer Sierra99!! Looks like an outstanding mission! As soon as I'm up to speed, I'll definitely be giving it a try!! Matz
  6. Wholly Wow Batman!!! Got my Track IR system today, set it up, and :surprise: ... that thing is unbelievable!! After about the first 15-20 mins of :puke: motion sickness (which you do experience to some degree)... it will suck you straight into the screen as your brain starts to adapt to it!! Now this is getting absolutely COOL!!!! I needed a new set of rudder pedals before my Track IR arrived, so off I went to my favorite electronics wonderland!! And lo and behold... right next to them, they had several sets of TM Cougars!! Well... their price was great, so I couldn't pass a set of those up after the hour long drive to get the pedals. I won't mind waiting an extra month to get the camera lens some of those $$'s were earmarked for, but I feel it was totally worth it!! Now I'm gonna have to spend some spare time reconfiguring my desk tomorrow in between flight time!! So, you guys were right about the Track IR... clearly one of the best peripherals I've spent money on in ages!! It will go a long way to smoothing out that learning curve!! So thanks to all that encouraged me to get one, and if you don't have Track IR yet, I'll be one of the first in line telling you to GO FOR IT!!! WooHoo!!!! Matz
  7. BTW... I really hate to see this get moved to the very low volume, low input "Bugs and Problems » Training Missions" forum. It doesn't make the issues go away, it just hides them from the high volume of main forum readers... unless they search for answers. This should be a front page issue, because that's where "newbies" will be looking.
  8. While I agree this is a "newbie issue" in part, and a "newbie sticky" would be great... how could it address a problem embedded in the software that makes the learning curve even steeper? I see this as a problem, that unless it's remedied, can take this game to the bin for a lot of new blood out there that want to get into actual "Flight Sims". I think it's kind of embarrassing when the narrator says "I will now disengage the auto-pilot..." and then goes through another 10 steps, and says "When we get closer, we'll disengage the auto-pilot...". For someone that's never landed in an actual Sim, I'm sure they sit there wondering "What the heck?!?!". In the same training mission, it tells the pilot to tune to 131.000 by "Right-Clicking the dial" when in actuality, you must "Left-Click" to get the "13". My fear of a "newbie sticky" is that it would become "Ignore what the Sim tells you and do it this way instead". As I seen firsthand in many titles, flaws like these "kill off" the number of people that stick with it, and that results in "Why are all the servers always empty??" Even the Manual doesn't address any issues that pertain to actual "Instructions" on how to fly on your PC. It's written as if you are sitting in an actual cockpit, using your fingers on buttons, and it very informative in that sense. However, this mandates that in order to know how to do it on your PC, you must follow the instructions in the "Training" missions. So when those missions are severely bugged/flawed/incorrect... what do you do? Well, you have two choices... if you have flight sim experience of some degree, you figure it out on your own. If you don't, you throw your hands up in frustration, and that's one less pilot we'll ever see in the virtual sky. I'm not trying to wear the issue out by any means, but it would be like buying a riding lawnmower that you have to assemble, and the first step is "Assemble the Engine", and there is a box of parts marked "Engine", and no book. "I" could assemble that engine... but how many would return the lawnmower because they couldn't? Then when they show up to return it, the salesman says "There's a forum where you can ask for help". :joystick: Matz
  9. Yup... That and that!! Sorry... I came across it in a few posts, but no solutions. So I've just been flying around and making VFR landings here and there! Hehehehe However, the files for the Steam DL, have a specific folder in it labeled "Training" with 3 subfolders. I'm gonna keep looking to see if I can locate them in the DCS World and update those, as the ones from Steam are newer files. We'll see... definitely won't keep me grounded though!! :gun_rifle: Matz
  10. I noticed the first glitches in the Navigation Training, it basically, at some point, just left me on my own. After SEVERAL rounds, I felt pretty comfy with everything, and moved on to landing. Whoa!!! The voice over and automated controls are COMPLETELY incorrect! I found where there is an update in the wiki and downloaded it, but there are no install instructions. :helpsmilie: So... my question(s) is/are, where to put the files etc, to correct the training missions? In the Landing, it is, at present, completely wrong. I managed to get on path and set the craft down, but certainly NOT by allowing the LAAP to fly or by following the instructions! Had I not flown other Sims, I would've had a clue where to go. :joystick: Is there a simple upgrade/fix for the training missions that I'm missing?? I want to get everything committed to memory correctly, and the current Training Missions I'm flying, just aren't going to do that. TIA, I'm sure this is a redundant post, and I apologize. Matz
  11. What up Cookie? I didn't even see your comment, so if I missed it, my apologies... Please don't delete it on account of my error. It's very informative. Matz
  12. Hey Cookie... the pics helped a bunch! The zip ties look like a perfect solution to keep the clip on and in place! As for the cables, I planned on either twist ties, or often on cales, I put a dab of hot glue on them to (on other things) keep them together. It doesn't damage the cables, and if you want the apart, ya just peel the small bits of hot glue off! Is that a Cougar in the background? If so, you like it??? Looks cool, and a major time saver! BTW, can I ask which headset that is... I hate the one I have now. Matz
  13. Hey! Thanks for the candid, up front review! Basically, treat it with "Kid Gloves", don't bounce it off the desk, or throw it when I crash, and it'll work great." That's what I wanted to hear. I'll just mount a hook on the side of my PC tower, and carefully hang it up after I take it off. Now, back to more flight time! LOL, Thanks!! Matz
  14. I'm gonna see how it fits, but I usually secure everything with commercial velcro. F1 2012 is the other Sim I'm anxious to try it in!! I know... up close in an "S" is near impossible to follow... ROF gets it too!!! Woohoo!!! :pilotfly:
  15. That's what I've been hearing from everyone! Can't figure for the life of me why I waited so long for such a cheap, highly touted peripheral. But you do think the standard clip is better than the Pro clip?
  16. Yes!! Eagerly awaiting it's arrival! Tracking says Tuesday arrival, but may be here Monday! Can't wait to get that piece of gear in the setup and flying!! I went ahead and got the Track IR 5 and Pro Clip bundle, but I've read and watched mixed reviews. So what do you Pro Clip users really think?? I trust actual users more than reviews. Once I get it going in DCS, gonna reload ROF and enjoy it there as well!! Eventually in FSX, but DCS A-10C and ROF are by far the best of the best in there respective eras. WooHoo!!! :joystick:
  17. Hehe... I actually keep that up on a second monitor when flying, and I'm going to print them as well, so I can add notes, just so I can reference it "on the fly" (pun intended). One thing I'd love to see, and it may already exist and I'm too new to know or understand, would be "Back Seat Flying" with some mega-accomplished pilots! I'm not sure if that's the premise of "Spectating in Multiplayer", but if you could "look over a pilot's shoulder" while they are tearing up the skies (or the ground), that would be an invaluable learning tool! To be able to watch in real-time from the cockpit of an experienced pilot, would be incredibly educating!! So how's the best way to go about that? Or rather, what do you guys suggest? I think "SafetyTurtle" would agree, that while we are learning to not crash and burn, we also get to see how the Big Dogs, already off the porch, do it! The videos I've watched just stun me with the level of skill and knowledge possessed by the Pilots! What's the best route?? Matz
  18. Done!... Just ordered TrackIR 5 with the TrackClip PRO!! :gun_rifle:
  19. I'm new to the A-10C as well, and as I'm learning, I've began taking notes, reading everything multiple times, and flying the training missions several times, until the entire "training" for that part makes total sense! Surprisingly, I haven't found this boring or "unfun", but rather, I get a sense of accomplishment every time I take another step forward! I'm all about realism, and want to get the very most I can out of this Sim! If you ever want inspiration, hit youtube and watch some multiplayer "Pilots" flying together!! They have put in tons of time and practice to reach their levels, and I hope to become "one of them" as soon as I can get there... but I'm not gonna rush it. Instead, I'm gonna learn it! Best luck to you and your endeavors!! Matz
  20. Yep, didn't think about that, and I'm not sure it would work even if you ran it under XP mode, as that too would be 32bit. Sorry to hear your axis delimma, I went through that in the past when they didn't update SST for newer applications/systems for older peripherals. Thought I'd throw out that option just in case it could help. Matz
  21. JujuMan, is it the older version of SST from 2005ish that you need? If so, I still have an old copy of the files, that I had to look high and low for, for the original X52.
  22. Yep... figured I'd just breeze through these "Training" missions and get up to speed real quick! :megalol: Shows just how delusional I can be! Haha!!! This is by no means a cakewalk, it may have a "Wedding Cake" on it, but it ain't any breeze or cakewalk, that's for sure!! Definitely brain and memory aerobics if there ever were any! Man, this thing is tough... but absolutely the GOODS!! Matz
  23. Right there with you Rubberduck!! Looks like we'll be learning at the same time. (So when you run across something really cool that you find... msg it to me!!! lol) Matz
  24. And it just gets better everyday, the more I learn! Pretty steep learning curve though. But that's good in a way... then you know people fighting to learn/master this beast are serious. The others will just say "forget that" and shelve it.
  25. I've been sold on getting one for years, and never have, in spite of the fact I usually own every peripheral known to man! Time for that to change. I think if I start adapting to Track IR at the same time I'm getting comfortable with the A-10C, they'll blend together even more smoothly, and help level the skill curve of the sim by not having to concentrate on a POV HAT while learning to fly and attack. Thanks for the input! Matz
