  1. For me, and although I am still on an "old" i5 2500 3,3 GHz, the GTX 680 4GB card is giving me a stutter-free experience over the most crowded areas of Las Vegas!

    I'm AMAZED!!!!

Instant Action UH-1H Free Flight with civilian traffic turned on :

    =======================================

Frame rates don't go below 60 and up to 120.

I have the same card, Asus GeForce, GDDR5 memory with the same results in my Huey. VRam is about 5.5 GB in game, downtown Vegas, day time.

    i7-2600 (8MB cache) Turbo Boost to 3.9GHz

    16GB 1600Hz RAM

    nVidia Control Panel:

    ==============

Adaptive VSynch On and Pre-Rendered Frames=4

    Options/System:

    ============

VSynch = Off ; Flat Shadows = On

I run on high settings: Textures, Terrain Textures, Visibility Range.

Water set low, shadows off, no heat blur, Cockpit = 1024, MSAA=2x, Anisotropic Filter=2x

    One monitor at 1920 x 1080

    HDR=Off

Have not setup yet in 3D, that should be interesting: nVidia 3D Vision 2

(Need to know how to take and post a screen shot here of my 2.0 OpenAlpha Options/System setup)

  2. The scope of the map is for Training and Red Flag. Wags has said that maybe down the road they could add more airfields but its undetermined at this point. The map wasnt designed for side vs side missions besides Red Flag type scenarios. Its simple.

SOH will be following close behind, it will be more what you think this map should be.

Have you tried landing at any of the unprepared airfields yet? There is that ;)

Anyways, everyone needs to lighten up the attitudes, on both sides.

Devilman always comes up with interesting combat missions in MP, stay tuned.

What was that movie concerning Russian troops in the USA, "Red Dawn" ?

  3. Who's whining. I made what I think is a very valid criticism. I did say in my original post that it looks nice. I simply can see a very limited mission scope.

Coming out with accusations of whining seems like blatant fanboi tactics. Next it will be accusations of trolling. Just because I'm not running with the herd, falling over myself with fawning.

Seriously did no one at ED or in the beta test point out that some alternative airfields could be good for mission building?.

Maybe you are not the guy in question.

  4. (re: Message #1)

I've been playing 4 years, now, I'm still a noob! Ka-50 is my main ride.

    I prefer Multiplayer (MP).

    I play online here:

    http://www.maddog-simulations.com/

There is a Tasmania/Aussie server, UK server, New Hampshire---USA server, and sometime a Colorado server up at times. I usually play the NH one.

159th squad is good, as is the 104th, 51st.

We were all noobs, once. Some of the better guys still are when they goof-up and get shot down.

Or run into trees... Got to break that habit real quick.

Blooze is always looking for A-10 pilots and he has interesting missions on his server.

  5. Initial download was about 12 hours. The Nevada terrain an additional 14 hours. No problems downloading, just slow. I used the USA server, went with the torrent. I did keep my Norton 360 antivirus and its firewall up and my Malwarebytes Home Premium was also on. Made a restore point before I started the download.

Downloading my modules off the 1.5 OpenBeta went really fast.

USA throttles back internet speeds compared to Europe. I have the fastest download/upload speed in my area with Time-Warner cable Internet. Next time I will try the European server.

Had to modify TacView from the 1.5 OpenBeta to see the Nevada terrain.

Not too bad flying about in the Ka-50 or Huey. I don't use VSynch and Flat Shadows checked to on---frame rates not too bad. Have 16 Gigs 1600 RAM, V-Ram shows a bit over 6 GBs. Aero is not turned off.

My wife is a NASCAR nut and she saw the Vegas track with cars going round and round, so I have to pay a ransom to get my PC back...

I was wondering how large the area is defined by the map? Does it go south to Grand Canyon or southwest to L.A.? Need to rig up a fast jet for a tour.

Will be playing on Devilman's Mad Dog MP combat server with other guys online and see how it goes with lag and stutters.

Will be upgrading to a SSD in a few days, game on one, Windows on another one---Samsung 850 Pro, yeah, it is overkill but was only $50 more.

  6. Couple years ago I changed out my video card to my Alienware Aurora R3, a single GeForce GT 545, to a single ASUS GeForce GTX 680 with 4GB GDDR5 memory which I still use. The 680 was $500 then and did not want to spend more money at the time. I recently looked around for another identical new 680 to achieve SLI and they do not exist or what is available costs more than that. Some used models are available to ebay.

Can I mate two dissimilar models to achieve SLI or do the two units need to be identical models?

Am thinking mating my GTX 680 with a newer, later model, in SLI.

    Doable?

  7. OK lets talk about accuracy. I'm looking at google earth and topo maps of the area and it looks like several airbases/airfields which should be present aren't.

    https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/23/Wfm_area51_map_en.png/1280px-Wfm_area51_map_en.png

So adding some extra's would have been a good idea.

I was to GITMO in 1977 and, then, knew the Navy base's layout pretty good. When I bring up anything like Google Earth to explore the base it does not show much detail. Imagine the military would like to keep their secrets relatively secret.

Maybe exclusions have something to do with military restrictions.

  8. That is exactly what I am doing.

It really seems to be connected to that twist to fully open. The speed you have to do it now is way too slow. I claim that this wasn't the case in the preceding versions.

Yes, lately, seems like something changed since the beta when I was learning the Huey.

Re-read the section in the latest edition (.pdf) full flight manual. Do the process EXACTLY as it is written.

I use Page Up and Page Down keyboard keys for the throttle.

You can fine tune the throttle moves with your mouse.

Let the engine set right there at the low end throttle stop until it 1st revs up, then slowly advance the throttle open.

I map the high and low engine turbine switches to adjust the engine as is necessary once it is up to takeoff rpm.

That is what I did and now do, no more flame out the exhaust.

  9. Thanks so much ED for taking the best simulation to another level. I was getting some stutter but found as suggested by turning flat shadows on everything became silky smooth even at speed at low level and this change didn't detract from the impressive new world around me.Thanks again I think I might be getting emotional

    Yep. looks really nice!

Initial download took about 12 hours. Adding the Vegas terrain took about additional 14 hours using the torrent. Connection was steady. Best download speed was wee early morning hours in NY State using the USA server. Adding the modules went much faster. Using the Ka-50 and Uh-1H in SP and MP.

V-synch off. Adaptive V-synch on in nVidia software utility helps with the stutters.

I never have been to Las Vegas. On a trip to Los Angeles at night over the Grand Canyon, 80 miles north was the glow on the horizon where Las Vegas is.

Anxious to go find where the UFOs are parked...

  10. Instant Action in Free Flight

I fly the Huey fairly well in the 1.5 OpenBeta and 1.2.

In 2.0 Single Player: the collective kicks out on me resulting with me going down and a crashing in flames. The collective is not consistent seems to slip out or is not connected well with its binding after setting up my controller - CH Pro Throttle.

I can save myself by engaging the Autopilot in Level Flight mode, then re-engaging the controls in free-hand once stable.

Has happened repeatedly on 4 separate free flight outings.

  11. for me,, after reading endless posts,,, the majority favor no curves at all,, there are alot of reasons for this, and I must admit I agree with them,,, yeah,,, its kinda tough, but once you really put some hours into it,, it will not be so difficult.

I fly the Shark with no curves on all settings except, the cyclic "Y" axis I use some for weapons aiming.

The Huey, I try doing the same, but I am still experimenting, especially with hover.

The Mi-8, still is early setup, I have not flown her very much.

My thoughts are, leave settings at default and just put in lots of hours flying the aircraft and develop a sensitive feel with my joystick, which is a CH Products Fighterstick.

The Ka-50 is my main ride in DCS (DCS is all I fly, lately, a year or two) and I bet I have well over a thousand hours flying her in the sim, probably much more than that. The Huey probably 100 to 200 hours, if that. Setting Dead Zone above zero just plainly feels too sloppy for me and ditto using curves. I control my Fighterstick at its base, the large diameter circle. I have had the Fighterstick about 5 years and still find no need to use Dead Zone.

I use the stock default cyclic trimmer in the Ka-50 where I make a move, click trimmer button, then hands off let it go to its zero point, like in BS1. I try to do same in Huey, but rudder trimmer is not checked in Special.

I have never flown a real copter of any kind and in the sim I am self-taught, trial and error. I have nothing to base experience with as a comparison. And each of these birds are unique to themselves, just because I can fly the Shark pretty good has nothing to do with the Huey or Mi-8.

  12. Finally figured out what I was doing wrong.

I have had the Huey since the early Beta when it was 1st issued, at least over a year ago.

My engine startup sequence was my print-out of the old flight manual.

    I re-read the most current flight manual edition I have : Windows 7 = (OS (C:) ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Documentation) and the throttle pre-set information has changed.

I now have no negative issue starting up the engine and taking off and flying her.

I use the Page Up and Page Down keyboard keys for the throttle moves. I can fine-tune the throttle moves with my mouse' wheel.

I was using Mad Dog's MP server, the mirror in New Hampshire, "Operation Hellraiser" mission.

  13. Ensure that you have increased the throttle to fully open then back to Idle stop, then press and hold the starter Button.

In OpenBeta 1.5 latest patch, I found using Page Up / Page Down keys worked better at manual startup than using my mapped axis command using my CH Fighterstick's left wheel to control the Huey's collective twist grip throttle.

I will see about remapping it may solve this issue.

    (later edit)

    I experimented some:

  15. The new installer released today uses bittorrent to download the patch, however It is painfully slow, No doubt it will improve as more people download the update and seed, currently at 60 peers and 0.5kB/s . Seems like a step backwards at the moment.

I realize the topic is about speed, but my MalwareBytes Anti_Malware repeatedly flagged the download as being malicious. I cancelled the installation and opted instead to download via http://

The offending IP# was 195.2.253.172 , location was Moscow.

It took 10 minutes to download using Time-Warner cable internet. I have the fastest download speed they offer in my area.

At least keep the alternate installation process as an option.

I do not download anything using bit torrent. You guys are going to lose a fan! I truly love the sim, but I don't love it that much.

  16. Just to add...not running sli or crossfire. Before patch I was locked at 60 fps high settings no matter what I threw at the Sim. After the patch though turning the plane and/or turning my head with trackir on causes wild fluctuations in fps which causes a large stutter present.

    Yes, same with me.
