  1. Every modern GPU could run VR only depend on what resolution.

Consider this for example Q3 in VD on Godlike is looking in VR like 1080p 27" monitor. I'm talking now about pixel density and impression you got.

With 9060XT you will probably running it on High preset in VR. That is lower resolution of rendering so pixels will be more noticeable like for example you are reducing resolution on 1080p monitor to increase in game performances.

Also VR is compromise so level of details and resolution combine with Hz. Run at 72Hz with motion reprojection on you will need 36FPS.
In VR we are not looking at average but minimum FPS. FPS shouldn't drop below 36 to keep it smooth.

9060XT in VR is doable, it is like 3080, 6800XT, 4070 or 7700XT. But don't expect too much, have in mind low budget equal low expectation.

I'm a bit confused about pimax. Are you required to pay a monthly subscription to run it?

Consider this as loan payment. You pay one part in cash and rest of the value you are paying in next 24 month's true "subscription".
This "Subscription" is actually like insurance. If you stop paying your Pimax is blocked until you pay what are you scheduled to pay.
Soon as you pay it is unlocked again. After 24 months or finished with payment in total your Pimax is permanently unlocked.

Of course you are still have option to pay full amount at once if you wish that way.

This is just way to make Pimax more affordable to the masses.
    Good option in my opinion.

    Thank you Pimax for that.

    Hi fellas.

In about 6 months I'm looking to a new PC and to jumping into VR for the first time.

If we had to pick the hands down, best VR set for DCS, which would it be?

I'm a bit confused about pimax. Are you required to pay a monthly subscription to run it?

    Cheers.

Unfortunately you don't have 3 kidneys so you can sell two.

Thank you for your input. I guess the chosen hardware will be absolutely capable to play DCS VR in high settings. 🙂

Actually I guess, that he is not that kind of guy, as he is not super nerdy. He's only gaming on console atm and has a family and stuff. Playing DCS in VR was a longterm desire for him, but he has no idea of computer hardware. As I by now have some more opinions, that the 7900XTX will run DCS on high settings in VR just fine, I guess, I'll simply let my friend choose. He might want to spend the saved money into nice peripherals.

Thank you for your input here. I know, that the 4090 is simply king of the hill, but as you exactly described, I'm not sure, if this huge extra € is worth it at all. I guess, I'll get him two or three different configuration options, where one will include the 4090. Then he can choose, what budget he is willing to spend or better to say to actually see the different prices in numbers to compare them.

In new light with latest developing in VR. Looks like difference between 4080S and 7900XTX is reducing maybe you should go to Nvidia. If difference is 100€ and above 7900XTX is better choice. Diference between 4080/7900XTX is actually completely new Pimax Crystal Light.
4090 = 7900XTX + Crystal Light in €uros and that is the killer combo.

I've started window shopping for the Quest 3. It looks good for the money, and I like the idea of being free of wires!

Q3 is 550€ but you have to count additional 150€ for better strap with battery expansion and new front mask for better comfort.
This addition is must have for Quest or Pico4. Don't spend on some cables if you going for Q3. Q3 got better WiFi speed so it is good for it but you need WiFi 6 to use it in full potential. Check if your MB got one on board. Just create Hot spot on your MB then and you will get speed from 1700Mbps min to 2400Mbps what is more than good for VR in WiFi. Q2 and Pico4 max speed is 1200Mbps.

Also Virtual Desktop is must have app. 7900XTX work same good as Nvidia on it even Quest software is not optimized for it. GPU is good, problem is on Meta side but in VD works flawlessly. VD also have VDXR so you start DCS without any problem directly in openXR. Also got support for AV1 200Mbps bitrate for best picture.

4090 is the best no doubt, but in my opinion this 1000€ is not worth this difference in performance. 7900XTX is kicking ass as well in DCS. It is better invest that difference in additional accessories for better VR experience as I mention it before and maybe in some WiFi6E router or something for best VR performance true WiFi.

    A small-big discovery I made today...

After having HAGS OFF since like... forever... because it was known to be a performance problem etc I turned it ON because I saw in a youtube (vrsim guy iirc) that sometimes it makes the micro-stutters disappear and... it did.

    From this:
    nullimage.jpeg
to this (the second image is a capture from a video recording so is way worse quality wise but the graph is visible)

    image.png
Also I tested the "Low Latency" Settings in nv control panel and with it ON or set to ULTRA the "feel" was not as smooth as with it on OFF, However it was the only thing that Pushed the graph to finally show "GPU BOUND" instead of CPU BOUND" as seen in 3rd picture where you can see it's now green gpu bound. However, I prefer it on OFF.

    image.png
Now if only my GPU would have been a 5080....

PS Oh and the "pre-render 3 frames in VR" setting in nvcp also did nothing, added a very slight increase in latency but no improvements. So I'll keep it on 1 frame (default).

As I can see from screenshot's you are using WiFi 5. From my experience with Pico 4 most of the problem coming from too high Bitrate for connection speed.
If you are using WiFi where speed fluctuating Reduce Bitrate or use Automatic bitrate.
Automatic bitrate will use this 400Mbps as cap bitrate when the connection speed can handle it. When speed is drooping automatically Bitrate according to Speed to keep smooth transfer of picture.

Otherwise you should find sweet spot for your Bitrate and connection speed manually. Sometime stuttering is caused not by GPU or CPU but because not balanced Bitrate/connection speed.

That sounds decent, almost like the G2 resolution all over which is basically what I wanted. Were you using the link cable?

I'm hoping someone can compare it to the quest pro. If it can stay locked at 72hz all the time the only difference might just be the colors and the FOV which is a bit bigger on the 3.

If you can run with stable 60FPS why don't you force AWS and run on 120Hz? Try like that will be nice and smooth with 60FPS.

Question for the group…I just received my Pico 4 and live in the US.  I can’t purchase the VD app in the Pico headset and can’t find it in the App Store.  Does anyone have a workaround for those of us that would like to stream DCS from PC onto the Pico 4?  Thanks in advance!

I think you buying in Pico store true mobile app on your mobile phone on your Pico account.
I'm not sure about web Pico store where you are logging in on your Pico account as well. Just check it out.
Or is just need to register payment method on your Pico account and then will be able to purchase even direct true Pico 4 its self.

I don't remember now but some of this is correct for sure.

  9. Look, I will just tell you I nowhere see real owner of 7900XTX is complaining about that GPU. Most complainant comes from Nvidia owners so how much such complainant are objective is another question. My friend just switch from 3080 to 7900XTX and he is thrilled. That's talking everything. His problem now is only 10600K bottleneck so he planning to switch to some Ryzen X3D to be able improving even more with Smart Access Memory possibility in AMD CPU GPU combo.

  10. If you talking about best performances for less money R5 7600X and RX 7900XTX is the way to go. All previous bugs look's like is fixed so this is most performances you can get per $.
BTW I got 3080 so I'm not AMD loverboy, just can't justified 200$ more for at least same performance in 4080 or 600$ for just 20% more performance in 4090 which is technically best performing GPU without the question.
I'm planning in the future such upgrade for my computer as minimum. If I will be lucky maybe 7800X3D but again for just gaming it is questionable to justified additional 250$ just for some minimal gain I will definitely got with it.
For such AMD upgrade BestBuy MB will be AsRock B650E PG Riptide, good value and will easy support future upgrades even to some future 8950X3D if will be needed.
Yes this MB got build in WiFi6E based on Intel AX210 for supporting best connectivity for Quest, Pico or Crystal. Future prove.

  11. I found the problem.
After I link SteamVR true the DCS Updater utility for its started working.
I know should be something simple and logical like that.

Now everything working fine only need to be fine-tuned.

  12. I just replace Q2 with Pico 4.
Uninstall all Oculus software and tools from my PC and install Pico Strem Assistant what I'm using right now, still didn't get Virtual Desktop.

Have nevest version of the Pico OS, 5.5.0 also Stream assistant, 9.4.7.1. I could connect with my PC wireless or true USB cable without the problem.
Native Steam apps working without problem but non Steam like DCS or Il2 Great Battles want work.

They are stock on loading the game status endlessly not switch inside game as should be or some other games doo.

Also if I exit VR in Steam VR game is opening in the window after that but it is stocked all the time before that no matter how long I left it.

I guess some of you fixed such problem already, by some logic problem could be by some Quest left over.

If you got some advice will be good. Thanks in advance.

  13. This is nice. Also
I think this should work without the problem with hand recognition in Quest, Pico or even Leapmotion.
Point is all this is have by default function of simulating controllers with just hands. It is also supported in OpenXR.
This could be game changer for using just hands in cockpit because controllers have same problems as hand recognition when you using it.

    Just keep doing good work.

  14. First of all, to be clear I'm the owner of the RTX 3080.

From my experience, all this fuzz about Nvidia or AMD is exaggerated. So I could tell you your 6800XT is almost the same performance as my 3080.
In practice, there is no difference at all. The real bottleneck is not GPU or CPU. The real bottleneck in DCS is the core engine itself. Without real changes, there will be no noticeable progress.
My 3080 sometime works great but sometimes has all these problems that they claim are only experiencing with AMD. This is simply not true. Problems I experienced have only at DCS everything else works perfectly.

Changing your 6800XT for something similar is not worth it. Change it right now for something better like 4080/7900XTX is questionable.
That will be great uplift but not worth that much you need to invest in this. AMD and Nvidia's new generation is highly overpriced so the last generation is still better value.
In general. I'm talking about the value, not performance.

Right now your 6800XT is good for waiting a little bit longer when offer and demand will stabilize the GPU market like it was with CPU for example. AMD is a good quality card but if the price is the same as Nvidia I will buy Nvidia. If the price difference is noticeable no doubt I will buy in this case AMD. For example, if we compare it with MSRP prices if you want the best beast 4090 is worth the price. If you want a budget more friendly beast then 7900XTX is a better value than 4080. I will buy 7900XTX over 4080 no doubt.
7900XT is a different story because the 4070Ti is a better value even is slightly lower performance but not that much so the 4070Ti always before 7900XT even right now maybe the 3090Ti /6950XT is a better value same as all other models.

Be patient, till the summer GPU market will be stabilized, and then see what is the best option for you with new prices relation.

  15. Just chacking this. I have Quest 2 but thinking about to switch to Pico 4 as I don't care about Meta library and even with Q2 I prefere titles from Steam any way.

As I watching your experiance have to mention I run on some video on YT where is someone change USB drivers in Windows to prevent BSoD, can0t find it now unfortunatelly.
Also run on this video where someone talking about experiance with USB ethernet cable connection and provide bunch of links in description inclouding amazon link for 20$ adapter so could be usefull I hope.

  16. Can we expect ED to implement FSR directly in DCS to avoid using third-party mods for it?

Benefits are obvious and increasing performances, especially in VR are real. According to AMD implementation is just a simple few days of work so it should be doable in a week, not two weeks like everything else. It's working on AMD and Nvidia cards so there is a benefit for all users, 2D or VR equally not like DLSS which benefit only RTX users.

ED should prioritize this implementation because brings instant improvements in a short time and that's what we all want, users or devs.

Hmm can't say I have ever heard that one.  MSFS 2020 has Open XR runtime and does great with Reverb and Aero. Not sure it has Vulkan.

Just want to remind you all ED anounced to switch to Vulkan in Q3 2021.
That is all about DCS on Vulkan soon.

That makes sense. I did a few more tries and could not get it to work. I gave up and went back to using openfsr.

FSR is better anyway. RSR is to use SR without implementation in game just true GPU software. That is why FSR is better, anyway FSR2.0 comming in Q2.

Yeah I'm on 60hz on the reverb, I suffer absolutely no issues with it but then I've never suffered from motion sickness. Even the janky loading screens don't bother me 😄

I can confirm that as well. I have a similar experience with Q2. G2 is the best buy Headset in performance per $. Best value. Q2 is half price but if you have it as a more permanent solution you will soon spend 200 or even 300$ for upgrades to reach the level of G2 in audio and comfort for example.
With your current GPU, you will run G2 on 60Hz and Q2 on 72Hz but it is a smooth experience. With both G2 on 50% SS or Q2 on 1.0 PD is looking somehow as CV1 at 1.6 but without SDE.
SDE is simply gone compared to CV1. It is still there but so slightly so in normal usage you have to focus on details to find it. On CV1 SDE is annoying no matter how much you crank PD.
Now depending on your preferences. G2 is a better permanent solution for flight and driving sims on a desktop PC. Q2 is more versatile and has a huge advantage with WiFi support in more casual usage. Impact on hardware after tweaking the game is similar when you reach similar results. The result is almost the same in G2 50% vs Q2 1.2 PD visually and impacts your GPU mostly. 3090 can work in VR with full potential even with i5 11400 so all that money you can save on CPU push in better GPU.
I will like to have G2 and Q2 at the same time and it is my goal in the future but right now my budget dictates Q2 be the first choice and I didn't regret it and to be honest, Q2 is giving me much more than I was originally expected. If you chose G2 because you have only sims in mind it is a great choice too. It all depends on your preferences.
