  1. Hi Community, TLDR: Am I allowed to slap an image of the Roadrunner cartoon character on the nose of a Viggen, and distribute it to the community via the User File download area without fear of it being removed? ... I'm trying to answer a question about using intellectual property such as cartoon characters on skins/Liveries. Nothing crazy like a full-on "no regrets" Mickey Mouse Club Disney skin for the F-15 (God, help me, if I ever see that!) Something more or less military-appropriate, like the Time Warner cartoon character Road Runner as nose art on a Viggen, or maybe tail art of the Tasmanian Devil on a Harrier tail. Here are examples of cartoon characters used in military insignia: To what degree is cartoon character usage permissible on these skins as User File uploads? I don't want to be an armchair attorney, here, but would nose/tail art be covered under 5% / derivative works rule or anything, or are the User File upload rules more conservative than that? Thank you!
  2. Suggesting GUN CCIP mode One thing you can try is to switch from the gun cross to the gun CCIP. Note that there are three gun crosses that I'm aware of: the short range one, the long range one, and the CCIP one. The short and long range ones can be engaged by selecting gun mode and toggling between cage and uncage. The third is a little hidden. Here are the steps I enable that mode (there may be easier ways, but I'm not aware): Activate gun mode (A/A MODE DOWN:GUN) Select DMT or MAP (SENSOR SELECT AFT or SENSOR SELECT LEFT); for DMT, both TV and LMT work Select OSB 5 on the right MPCD (should be labeled "GUN"). This will enable the CCIP while in GUN mode, and is slightly reminiscent of the A-10C one. (optional) Change HUD to night mode to make it more dim, then project FLIR onto HUD if it improves visibility (SENSOR SELECT DOWN) BHOT or WHOT as necessary. (optional) you can also play around with the reject levels (REJ1 and REJ2 to the left of the HUD brightness knob). None of these remove the TVV, but maybe a little less clutter will be less of a distraction. I never really notice the TVV in the way with this mode enabled. In fact, this setup much more closely resembles the previously posted YouTube video in above reply. Hope this helps! 3. This is a very interesting article, and I am surprised at the difference between the reported A-10C and the Viggen ready times. I would have thought there would be a bigger difference with as much touting that I personally perceived from the usual sources describing the Viggen's turnaround. I'm not saying every second doesn't count on the battlefield, but I anticipated a greater difference than ten minutes saved IRL for complex CAS loadouts. EDIT: Make no mistake, I'm still very impressed with the skill and precision that these talented and dedicated crew teams exhibit to get these multi-ton beasts of war back into the air and ready for action so quickly. Thank you for the link!
  4. From what I understand, the Viggen was designed to be turned around really quickly from possibly remote locations. Will this be reflected in DCS? For example... Will RRR (repair, rearm, refuel) duration be reduced? Will RRR be available at FARPs along a stretch of highway, or something? Will the mission designer allow us to implement RRR anywhere on the map (ie. specified location on a highway) Will the Viggen be more "rugged" to withstand our lovely, though robust, Balkan "Bane of All Landing Gears" Bluegrass? (I don't actually know what kind of grass Georgia has in real life, but you know what I mean) Thanks in advance!
  5. Hey, it worked, THANK YOU!! As a token of my gratitude, here is a picture of a weightless cat! :) http://i.imgur.com/3KYv1qx.jpg
  6. I am missing the settings option in the launcher. Has anyone seen this or have suggestion on how to fix? Screen shot of problem: http://i.imgur.com/2J0lf4H.png I see the monitor lua files in the file system, but not really sure where to start. (IE. Is it an aspect ratio issue? Is it a resolution issue? Is something corrupt?...) I do have four monitors coming out of a single GFX card, if that makes a difference. I'm tempted to re-install, but I really don't want to burn any activations without knowing for sure if it will fix the problem. Here is my DXDIAG: https://goo.gl/WzVZrO Thank you!
  7. Thank you for taking the time to look at and explain this, Yurgon. With the attention to detail the ED has shown, I figured as much, but secretly hoped that I might have stumbled upon some kind of creative / unintended use of a design feature. All very exciting, none-the-less, and I appreciate your attention. -very best regards
  8. attaching document for convenience... DCS A-10 Gun Information - Expanded.pdf
  9. Disclaimer: Searched briefly for this, but found nothing, so please feel free to "RTFM" me or point me to a specific post. Context: While searching Google for "dcs difference between pac-1 and pac-2" I stumbled upon a document attachment in DCS forum post 77547 called "DCS A-10 Gun Information - Expanded.pdf" containing some alleged real-world details about the GAU-8. Therein, on page 3, I found an implication that the NWS button is capable of detents and short/long presses. Question: Is this functionality supported in DCS A-10C, and if so, what are the specific long/short NWS functions as if they would be listed in the official flight manual, section starting at page 86 (Control Stick)? For example if the CHINA HAT table on p91 says CHINA HAT FWD LONG = "Slave all to SPI" then what *SHOULD* the NWS table on p88 say for multiple detents and LONG / SHORT? Alternatively, are they merely describing the PRACTICAL BEHAVIOR of the established function already mentioned in the manual? ie. manual says "push this button to lase" versus this expanded PDF explains "lasing actually DOES blah..." Bonus Question: If this is NOT featured, is it moddable? Thanks in advance!
