  1. I agree. It would be REALLY cool if they really leaned into it, watched some less known (not on youtube) real world videos of apaches attacking and enemies reaction - its such a deadly machine. Like I thought the AC-130 was so overbearing to the enemies, but this thing, holy cow. You can tell so much research, data, and analysis went into not making a weapon but making something that decimates any opposition or target at deep levels upon levels that are hard to comprehend.
  2. Debating dropping the cash for this. Some of the videos look super cool. While I know its still missing stuff, can anyone comment on: 1. Most importantly is how well does it fly. Any real world Apache pilots comment on if it feels like the real thing? 2. I know its missing some features, but from what I can see online and on the store page, its looks more finished than not. Probably for the time being, I would like to fly around and just shoot stuff without too much hyper advanced settings, but still want anything that is complete to be fully simmed out. 3. Coming from A-10C 1 and 2, with a full Thrustmaster A-10 joystick and throttle, is it pretty easy to crosswalk controlling a heli to the A-10 joy/throttle? And just in general, is it worth the money for what you get? Again, seeing people flying the thing from videos I have seen, seems very much like the military intended it to be an extension of your body, and less like you are flying it (A-10) or it is flying you (F-16). Is there any word of the devs improving ground AI and general "feel" of ground units to make it seem more real?
  3. Trying to ween myself off relying on the red markers the game can provide for enemies to have a true realistic experience. I find I can engage enemies much further out before red data shows up. F10 map shows hostiles and will assume that's real time sat data of the battlefield which I am sure exists current day. This would be the equivalent of command relaying general locations to me. Able to use sat data to get an idea of enemy locations to then spot with TGP. This works but is hit or miss with how quickly I can do it. Things look different when on air etc. Is it possible to make TAD show a sat data instead of a map? Would like to slew around TAD sat and put mark points that I can then see on HMD, pull TGP to HMD and start searching.
  4. Dropped a GBU in CCRP mode. I noticed Latch was set to on when setting up plane, so exited the screen without making changes. When dropped bomb, I toggled laser, Left "L" was flashing with a solid L to the right. Bomb missed. All other bombs hit target when holding down laser. Any one else experience this? Is Latch working? Side question. When I have HUD as SOI, and go to guns, I can cycle between reticle. But I only get static cross, or the circle with 3ish dots in it (never know what those dots mean? Are they like sniper rifles, where they denote distance you should use for each one?) Anyone know what you have to do to change the circle reticle to no be high on the HUD, I thought there where two different positions you can set it?
  5. Just general discussion. Can anyone accurately comment on the jets EA current performance? Is it pretty close to how the F-16 would behave in real life? I know it's early access, but that's the point of my question and if ED are getting better and better and doing this faster. Is DCS more like X-plane, where you plop a plane in and it simulates the plane based on world settings with very little hand holding (eg. truly a physics simulation), or is DCS a combination of chaotic simulation and scripted limits? Just curious as Eagle Dynamics are starting to get more high end jets and would be cool if they can have the simulation do most of the work for them, which means maybe they can get more "top secret" jets that dont have published performance data (f-117, F-22.) All that said, a ton of the fun in flying these things is not flying them at all, but playing with the insanely accurately simulated computer systems within them, which I'm sure the spooky jets wont release to the public for a long, long time.
  6. I have a detent for AB set in my TM Warthog. Does anyone know what throttle percent in the plane the AB kicks in? I can then set advanced controls. Any help is appreciated. Also, is it just me or is the AB flame harder to see in this module?
  7. Sounds like you fixed it entirely. Can you post one screenshot, after all your settings are set to what you say fixed it completely for you? Would like to copy what you have and see if it works on mine as well.
  8. Just got the +. DCS brought up the app by its self and if I tell it to use left eye it seems to work fine. When I take the headset off, it does feel weird. I dont get that with other games. I feel like Alex has this fixed to the point where I eyes can adjust, but still not quite right. Maybe ED should pull in a doctor or somebody that may be able to tell exactly whats happening. I suspect this is purely Alex just needs to find the right combination of slider settings in his app to make this perfect, I do not believe this is a hardware issue. So far pretty cool, and I am willing to sacrifice a few mins of weird eye stuff to fly in a f-18, but Alex, please don't stop looking into this issue, its not quite fixed yet. Thanks!
  9. Starting off really cool, but on mission 1 when I was told to talk to Ford on 144.5 I tune the radio and sqealing continuous sound plays. Tried playing around with the AM/FM knob and I think somehow got it to stop the sound and be on AM but mission broke. I never touched the radio until that point, the auto radio setting in the game had done it all for me up to that point.
  10. Given the fact that this is a more modern plane, it has fly by wire. You dont fly the plane, it flies you. With that said, this plane is extremely easy to hop into and fly around. But as people have mentioned, it's much harder to master and use it to its full potential.
  11. Snap, I am using one that makes the words on the DDIs sharper. Didn't think of that at all.
  12. I know I have posted about this before, but everything I am hearing is that it should work. For me its not. Here is a video of me doing my best at a start up. With the HMD not working. Whats weird is I somehow got it working a few times last week ONCE I WAS IN THE AIR. Hence, why I waited in the video to try HMD. Any help is appreciated on if I am missing anything at startup.
  13. Loving this aircraft so far. One thing that I am curious about and wonder if its will get fixed in an update, or if its truly how the F/A-18 is used in real life. The left and right generators are ON when I first hop in the plane from a cold start. Shouldn't they be off if the plane was properly shut down the night before? Similar to the A-10.
  14. For the life of me I cannot get carrier to setup its TACAN correctly. I can set an action in mission builder, and tell it to set TACAN, in this case 77X. But anytime I tune to that, my TCN markers just spin endlessly. I have it set to on, have 77X selected, and TCN is boxed in the HSI. Can anyone provide exact, specific extreme detailed instructions on how to make this work from the mission editor to having it find it in the jet and display info on HUD, etc... I am using Stennis. I have tried other nX numbers, I can also tune to nearby airport and it works, so the jet is finding TCN, just not the boats.
  15. Thanks everyone this makes sense for the AoA. As for the HMD I will have to play around. I am sure I'm doing it right. Both engineers started. Battery on. All screens and HUD on. Fcs bit check complete. Not sure what I'm missing.
  16. By this you mean from a cold start, once you have power running to everything you just spin the brightness on the knob to the right to brighter correct? Thats what I do. Weird.
  17. I will have to check but I dont think this is correct in the carrier landing training mission, I remember it showing all the time I thought.
  18. Does anyone know the startup procedure to turn on the HMD. When I start in the air it's good. But from ramp I can't get it to turn on. I tried changing the brightness thinking it was like the HUD where that turns it on but didn't work. Is there a switch I have to hit first? Second question is around AoA NUMBER on the HUD. With gear down and hook ready I can see the E bracket but the AoA number seems to stop displaying if E goes below horizon. Again cold start, so do I need to switch something else in to make AoA number work? Note with gear up the AoA displays just fine just obviously no E bracket.
  19. As mentioned, the jet should fly it self. Assume you have held T/O trim button. I am sure its not by the book, but once I get off the ground fully, probably no more than 1 to 1.5 seconds I am pulling in landing gear. At take off, all it does is slow you down and delay optimal airflow and lift.
  20. I know you select GND or CV depending if you are starting up on carrier or airfield. Once it counts down, similar to A10 do I have to switch it over to NAV? In CV after it counts down I have to pass by GND to get to NAV and I think it retrips and starts over (since it hit GND before NAV). Am I missing something here or what should be the proper way to start up this system?
  21. Watch a really good video on this. I needed to understand this bracket is doing more in areas I didn't know it was and less in areas I thought it did more in. F18 seems to self trim against speed in relation to lift but when gears down it behaves more like a "normal"plane. I'd argue trim MUST be used to use this bracket properly. Havnt tried but I don't think I could get proper VV and E using stick only. Now that I understand. First try, trimmed up and NEVER touched stick again. Jet just plopped down on 3rd wire. This is so cool. I eyeballed distance and what altitude I should be at where. I'd like to get this down to a science and repeatable. Can anyone give specific numbers? Like this far out with e bracket trimmed you need to be this altitude etc...
  22. Have to admit, with all the hours of Sim flight, never flown a plane with Onspeed indicator like this. I have an idea of what its doing but I think the tutorials blow through what its actually doing in relation to your physical jet. For example, the Flight Path or velocity vector essentially is saying regardless of your horizon indicator or direction you are facing, this is (as best as a HUD can tell you) essentially what your jet is actually physically doing. Or how the HUD floats to indicate slide Is the AOA bracket doing something similar, or is it purely technical info versus some sort of literal info the plane is doing? I've made a few carrier landings but totally VFR. Would be nice to know the stall speed with no weapons loaded as well. Interesting jet, and a lot of tech in this thing, it basically flies it self (seems to self trim almost.) Very cool Fly by wire system where you ask the plane to do something and its computer decides if it wants to. Also any way to change G limit?
  23. Thats Awesome! Do you think the f-16 will be a FC add on plane, or a full sim like the 18 and 10?
  24. Nice. Does it have full startup procedure, as that is one of my favorite most relaxing things to do with the A-10C Kinda crazy DCS has this level of detail about a much more modern military jet. Didn't think that was possible, kinda leaves no excuse but to make a A-10C level sim for the F-16 now.
  25. Hey quick question. So I have a few DCS modules and love them. A-10C obviously is the best so far. Sounds like the F-18 is going to be another high detail sim like the A-10C. Is it worth to buy this yet, as ED still says its early access on the store? Are there a ton of systems disabled etc for now? or is it mostly complete and a full on DCS sim?
