Is GACQ entered when you switch to guns in any radar mode? Is it the best mode if you don't know where they are? I take it TWS with Russian fighters can't perform the same ripple fire function as with the F-15C? A final question. Why do those top wing flaps keep deploying automatically in Russian fighters? Is it to do with low airspeed?

I got rid of all my weapons and went for a fly, got to a very strange speed. Had immortality turned on. Would aircraft have broke otherwise?

Yes on retrospect I think I was double designating the same target accidentally. Mind you the manual could do with some clarity there because it leads you to believe that you should double designate a target before firing to enter STT. Here is my work which may save as a help to other people as new as me. The F-15C radar is a difficult beast to master. What are your recommendations for a WVR radar mode? When I say WVR I mean within 10-15km but not necessarily visible (otherwise the radar is moot). I've been using VS but when you're turning hard the vertical scan doesn't seem to go vertical, or does it always orientate to ground vertical? TWS Double KIll.trk

Okay. Now for the advanced stuff. According to page 107-108 of the manual, I'm supposed to be able to enter TWS mode and lock two targets. However the first lock seems to generate STT mode.

I know how to do that (LOL) but in the controls there's a separate control for radar scan zone left and right (radar horizontal) just as there is for up and down (radar vertical).

Thanks. Now what about scan zone left and right? I can't see this changing anything on the VSD. I can see that reducing and increasing the horizontal range moves the azimuth limits but how is moving it left and right being represented?

I think I'm getting there. Seems to be more involved than the Russian radar. The scan elevation limit numbers next to the scan limit circles on the VSD - what are they in? Altitude ftx1000 or degrees?

Yeah. My game isn't working properly, the LRS mode (2) is showing the same HUD symbology as the VISUAL mode (6) when the AIM-120 is selected. What's going on? I'm sure it wasn't doing this yesterday.

I'm struggling with AMRAAMs now. I can't seem to get the LRS mode to work. It keeps saying 'VISUAL' in the lower right corner of the HUD and refuses to see anything outside about 15km. Any tips greatly appreciated. The buttons for increasing scan range don't seem to even be working.

I tried it again and it didn't work. I think maybe it depends on whether the missile has reached the self-lock range or not.

Hi. I've read the manual and I'm performing the following steps 1. Select LRS - 2. 2. Turn on Radar - I. 3. Increase scan Z - RCtrl+=. HUD still says 'VISUAL' in lower right and VSD says '10' in upper right. I don't seem to be able to get radar lock outside 10km and the HUD Display is a mess for some reason.

I press '2' to to enter LRS mode but the indicator on the HUD (bottom right) still says visual and I can't seem to change acquisition range on the radar display. What command is it?

Another interesting note - you can re-direct R-77s mid-flight. Just did it accidentally. Pressed Space with the controller wire and then locked target 2.

Well, I've just learnt something. From the rear R-27ETs work best and from the front R-77s work best and even R-27ERs aren't too bad from that side either.

When using R-77s in BVR the lock circle always seems to stay bore-sighted rather than following the target. Is this correct?

Overall I've found that the MiG-29S with 2 R-27ETs and 2 R-77s is more effective than an Su-33 with 6 R-27ERs and 2 R-27ETs. Oddly it works best when you use the R-27ETs first at long range and then use the R-77s at shorter range just before 10km.

Hi pepin. The problem I'm having with the R-27ER isn't really range. I'm firing from 10-15km and the missile is often just flying past the target aircraft within about 50m or less and they (AI F-14s) aren't really maneuvering much. The missile just doesn't seem to know which way it's going. I'm trying to establish whether I'm bad or whether it's just a bad missile.

Ah, so once in range (15km from rear) I can lock R-27ET seeker via radar mode?

Hi Flankerator. Should I be able to lock R-27ETs with radar? How do I know when an active radar homer has self-lock?

I also can't seem to lock the R-27ETs using the BVR IRST mode (pressing O). I can however lock them via radar. That doesn't seem to match the manual.

I've bit trying to flick through the radar sub-modes also but they don't appear to change anything . I must say, BVR could really do with some training mission modules, as a n00b I don't have a clue what I'm doing and often don't understand the manual either, or find it hard to match to the game. I'm struggling to even hit AI aircraft at the moment with SARH missiles. Am I at least using these missiles right? See track. They don't seem to track at all. I achieve 1 hit in 5 attempts here. Yeah I know how that works.:) I keep it locked all the way but is still goes off on its own course most of the time. The ET is way better. Shame you can only carry two. I also note that you can't initiate a BVR lock inside about 10km with radar, is that right?

Well I was doing some quick practices, F-15C vs 2 MiG-31s and Su-27 vs 2 F-14s. The R-27ER hit rate is about 1 in 3 or 4 from 10-15km. The AIM-120C hits most of the time and so does the R-27ET. Is this normal?

Having a lot of trouble with it. It often misses from range and doesn't lock in close. Any tips for a n00b? Is there a minimum range? I take it the R-27R/ER is just a really bad missile? Not sure I should have been able to fire an R-27ET based on a radar lock (see track). R-27ET.trk
