I found that in F2 view, at certain zoom levels, the nose cone moves up and down instead of in and out. If you zoom in close enough it will snap into the right position, but zooming out a little will cause it to suddenly snap to a different position and move incorrectly. In the screenshot the aircraft was up past mach 1.5, but above mach 2 the nose cone actually starts to move past the bottom of the aircraft.

I was extremely saddened to learn that despite the claim of progress being saved, all the shorad units I deployed disappeared after the server restarted. :( EDIT: Also, I flew the Mi-8 straight through the battle of Beslan and survived (then unfortunately the server crashed). This was the most frightening flight I've ever had in the Mi-8. http://www.twitch.tv/sniporbob/v/13646337

Starting the APU after failed first attempt
sniporbob replied to bart86pl's topic in Bugs and Problems
If you're doing multiplayer you can go to spectator and back for a new helicopter. Otherwise, ya, you have to restart the mission if you're doing single player. Repairing should fix it. But on the other hand, the APU isn't supposed to break like that in the first place... -
Starting the APU after failed first attempt
sniporbob replied to bart86pl's topic in Bugs and Problems
Doing anything with the APU that doesn't result in a successful start will break it. Such actions can include: 1) Performing an APU crank. 2) Performing an APU false start. 3) Attempting to start the APU with the service tank fuel pump off. Once any of the above actions are performed, the APU will no longer start even if everything is configured correctly on subsequent attempts. Ground electric power has no effect, this happens either way. Repairing the aircraft will not fix the APU. -

We already answered that question. I suppose maybe the nvg mod is to blame? The Su-25T and UH-1H mods are just .lua changes, and I wouldn't expect the english cockpit textures or the chat color to make my game crash.

Mine isn't working unfortunately. My track was one of the ones he couldn't open, and I couldn't open his track. I tried a repair too but I was not so fortunate. I am unable to unpause his track without it crashing my game. I'm running the most recent stable version and the only mods I have are changes to some of the aircraft control .lua files so that the TM Warthog switches can be used. In the google drive folder linked to by Gos, I am unable to unpause the Ultimate43 track without a crash. I can unpause the Ultimate42 track fine though (and Ultimate41 also, but that's my track). EDIT: PC Specs i7 950 OC'd to 3.8 GHz 12GB ram DCS installed on my 120GB SSD along with Win 7 R9 290 (not the latest drivers but I can play DCS for an entire day straight without a crash so I'm afraid to upgrade lol)

I uploaded my track. If you'd like I can also upload the stream recording (that way you have the audio of Ultimate 3 and Ultimate 4). -

For those interested, here's the stream footage from the perspective of ULTIMATE 4-1: http://www.twitch.tv/sniporbob/v/12421113 I got a brief lag right as I was transitioning to hover near the troop ship and entered VRS :( Thanks for the fun flight everyone! And a special thanks to Chuck for putting this together! It's unfortunate the server crashed. This looked like it was going to be a really fun mission! -

I'll be streaming. http://www.twitch.tv/sniporbob EDIT: I won't be paying attention to the stream comments though. There will probably be too much going on in game for me to worry about. -

Someone over on /r/hoggit posted a link to a flyable aircraft mod. There are a LOT of flyables added, but none of them have a correct cockpit. Here's the post: -
Airmobile Event #2 - Night Stalkers: Fall of Hercules
sniporbob replied to Charly_Owl's topic in Multiplayer
Since it looks like radio beacons aren't going to work in multiplayer, I've done some research and some measuring. The following information will come in handy for the Mi-8 pilots. Mission Airfields: Batumi Tower: 131.0 MHz NDB: 430 kHz [*]Kutaisi Tower: 134.0 MHz VOR: 477 kHz [*]FARP Hope (callsign London) Tower (?): 127.5 For the Doppler Nav System: Batumi to FARP 73.3 km 91 degrees [*]FARP to Crash Site 49.5 km 29 degrees [*]Crash Site to Kutaisi 52.2 km 312 degrees Nearby Airfields: Kobuleti Tower: 133.0 MHz Inner Marker: 490 kHz Outer Marker: 870 kHz [*]Senaki Tower: 132.0 MHz Inner Marker: 129 kHz Outer Marker 156 kHz -

It also helps if you don't approach from a high altitude. It's a little easier to not descend too quickly that way. You also have to go very slow and easy since the Mi-8 engines take a while to spool up to full power after decelerating. To avoid VRS I'd recommend not letting the VVI drop much below 2 m/s. If it hits 5 m/s and you don't have about 50 km/h airspeed you're going to have a bad day. -
Unfortunately it did not fix the problem :( . I was unable to open either of the maps except via Irfanview with unicode turned on.
-
That's ok, I'm sure you didn't make it difficult on purpose. :D I have no idea how to change the format so that it works on all systems. It's odd that most people don't have this problem, but I did see at least a couple people mention it. I figured I'd just post the error messages from various programs and a workaround so that if someone else searches for an answer they'll (hopefully) be able to find it. Thanks for the great map! It was definitely worth the difficulty of figuring out how to open it!

That's ok, even setting up a unit to broadcast on the radio is beyond my abilities. Thanks for trying! -

Was that after adding a script to reinitialize the unit? :( Any luck setting up an NDB using Cibit's mod? -

 I will politely decline. Body Farm, did you take into account the stuff from the other thread I posted? According to a different thread http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=126130 : -
Airmobile Event #2 - Night Stalkers: Fall of Hercules
sniporbob replied to Charly_Owl's topic in Multiplayer
Right, that one can be tuned. I was referring to the R-828, which is (as far as I know) the only radio that can receive the FM signals that Body Farm placed on the map. And on that note, I just tested the beacon map and I can confirm that the (highly annoying) Britney Spears song can be picked up and homed in on via R-828 preset 8. I was somewhat low over the mountain tops and first got the signal at approx 15nm. That was in single player though. We'll see if it still works during multiplayer. -
Airmobile Event #2 - Night Stalkers: Fall of Hercules
sniporbob replied to Charly_Owl's topic in Multiplayer
Because Soviet Russia! It's not really that complicated, but it does suck that you can only use presets instead of being able to tune the radio to any frequency. Also, we're going to be using the latest version of DCS right? -
Airmobile Event #2 - Night Stalkers: Fall of Hercules
sniporbob replied to Charly_Owl's topic in Multiplayer
If you could kindly make the frequencies one of the following, us folks in the Mi-8 will be able to make use of the beacons too! presets = {} presets[1] = 21500000.0 -- frequency in Hz presets[2] = 25675000.0 -- radio Mayak presets[3] = 27000000.0 presets[4] = 28000000.0 presets[5] = 30000000.0 presets[6] = 32000000.0 presets[7] = 40000000.0 presets[8] = 50000000.0 presets[9] = 55525000.0 presets[10] = 59975000.0 Put the decimal point two places from the leftmost digit to convert to MHz (for example preset 1 is 21.5 MHz). -
I spent a frustrating amount of time trying to open this image but I finally succeeded. Windows image preview said I had insufficient memory, Firefox said the file contained errors, Paint said the file could not be read because it is not a valid bitmap file or it's format is not currently supported. Irfanview said it couldn't read the file header because it was an unknown format or empty/damaged. It also gave a hint about unicode possibly being a problem. It turns out the file header information contains unicode characters. The only way I could open the file was to turn on unicode support in Irfanview 32 bit (because apparently the 64 bit version doesn't have unicode support). In Ifranview, go to Options --> Properties/Settings --> Language --> and then check the Load Unicode PlugIn checkbox.

Relevant thread? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=126130 Someone posted a link to a mission that apparently has functional radio beacons attached to units. I have no idea how any of the scripting stuff works, so this is about all the assistance I can provide. -

Does the FARP or the crash site have an emergency radio transmitter? I'm not sure if I should try to learn the ADF before the event. -
Airmobile Event #2 - Night Stalkers: Fall of Hercules
sniporbob replied to Charly_Owl's topic in Multiplayer
Haha, I'll lead if you guys need me to but never before have I been in charge of anyone other than myself. I'd hate to ruin the fun by being a poor leader. Gos, if you're new I'd HIGHLY recommend you download the mission (from Chuck's first post) and practice landing on the ships. It's an uncomfortably tight fit in the Mi-8, and it would suck to smash up your chopper in the first 10 minutes of the actual event.
