  1. This post is like a kitchen at Thanksgiving day....mmmmmmmmm.....smells so good. Early Guadalcanal would be so awesome. :)
  2. I had the same problem until I realized E just breaks the wire. Do you max the corners of your stick, throttle and trim wheels before you fly so Windows understands what you max throttle setting is. I use a Saitek 52. Helped for me.
  3. I finally deleted all of my IL2 files, over 30 gigs. I have flown P51 sims since Aces Over Europe, Air Warrior, Fighter Duel, WarBirds and finally IL2. Each sim brought something new to the table and man...DCS really takes the P51 to the next level; not just cockpit management but the mass of the plane as well. Like playing chess with cheap plastic pieces, then you finally get to play with a set of heavy wooden pieces. It just feels right.
  4. Lots of good input here. Been flying sims since 94....(dang...where has all that time gone?). The next two pieces that DCS has added to the flight sim evolutionary timeline are AFM and engine management ( rate of change in heat build-up and cooling). 1. Learn to zoom the P51 and while keeping it trimmed. Learn to turn in vertical. 2. Learn how to recover from a spin in a direction that is advantageous to fight. On your opponents six or 180 for extension. 3. Altitude is money in the bank....Speed is money in your pocket. 4. Listen to Kenny Rogers ....The Gambler :) 5. Study your turning using Tacview...its amazing.
  5. I too got to meet a member. He shipped of right before he was to graduate from Palmer High School where I work. That time called Colorado Springs High School. He gave a speech at our school and told the story of how he missed graduation. Long story short, the students began texting our Principle about making things right. Well 2014 graduation he walked across the stage and finally received his high school diploma. The entire arena gave him a standing O! It was very touching. ~S~
  6. I too cooked many engines and was just as frustrated when I made my jump from Il-2. I takes time to acclimate yourself to DCS P51 because ... rate of temp inc or dec = manifold pressure + prop pitch + maneuver. Once you get the feel for how these settings affect you engine temperature, you quit cooking engines. That's when the sim gets fun. ~S~
