  1. Where do I find the Games Folder?? Is there a Games Folder for Each Aircraft? I have not used the Sim much at all, only a couple weeks way back in the spring. I've searched through all the directories ( and looked through threads here ) and can't find any directory structures ( they usually are not complete paths...) I assume there is a games folder in 1.2.8?? thanks

  3. Hello. I need some advise before I go crazy.... So far - Ive only really flown ( or worked with) the P51D with a hotus thrustmaster I was using 1.2.7 and just about had my Thrustmaster Hotus Profile ready for my P51D. Then I added track IR5 - this added more learning curves and experimenting and my graphics card ( a gt640 ) - 128 bit card not a GTX suffered big time when i added track IR. ( running 3 monitors was OK until I added track Ir and then everything went soutrh) The next week my system upgraded to 1.2.8 and all of my flight controls for my TM - everything was gone. I am not sure where i put my LUA files for my P 51 - i was working on training and opened the editor prior to running anything and entered my controls and then stored my profiles ( somewhere - will explain). It was not worth the time and frustration to reconfigure this and fight my graphics problem so I just waited until I could get a new card. Now i have a GTX 780 FTW Dual ( 3GB ) with still my quad core and 16 gigs of ram and a SSD. I put my money in a better graphics card , ss drive, ( and power supply). Eventually I will be ready to upgrade to a better MB and CPU when ( if) finances allow. So now i understand that 1.2.10 will make more ( but improved ? future changes ). SO ... what should I do with 1.2.8 should I set everything up and get it all working now and then update or update now and rebuild from the config. menu in the new version?... and where exactly should i save my profiles for any given aircraft ( using a hotus warthog so i leave the A10 alone - i know. ( if i could get a proper directory path that would help.. I was in so deep before I could not find anything ) In reading I see it mentioned to save to a games folder? will the aircraft find the file there even with training, etc?... I only used the program for several weeks before I had to give up and wait. If I can just get started with my profiles to work on 1.2.8 and have them in the proper directory ( - have not moved beyond training so far) so I can transition to 1.2.10 ( unless you all think I should stay where I am until any bugs are fixed.) I'll try to figure out track IR after I get my controls to work. Thanks for the help. ( bear with me - I'm in the AARP club and computers have outsmarted me in recent years!) RWG
  4. OK. I can tell you with track IR and the P51 with three monitors I think I have met the limit with the GT graphics card. Now one Huge problem is... I can;t get anything to work since i opted to downoad 1.2.8 ( and then they had another upgrade right after that ). i can't get my Rudder pedals to talk to the software at all... none of my saved profiles will reload. What a mess! What is the point of ever wanting to upgrade if i understand you have to reinvent everything... I just don't have time for this S*&*T. i AM SO TOTALLY BUMMED OUT. I sat down the other night and spend about 3 hours trying to get anything to work. ( wondering what the heck is going on ). Then it dawned on me.... upgrade. I started reading around and sure enough, I've screwed the pooch and my whole system seems to be a bunch of pretty green LED's that don't do much. I can't even get a response from my pedals if i try to input a control movement ( I really need to read up on all of that again ).. But this gets off topic so I'll leave it alone. So, until I can figure out how to get my aircraft to even fly, I'm grounded!... W.
  5. Hello everyone. I apologize for the delay in getting back to all of you. I have been pressed for time and have not had time to even look at my flight simulator since right after I posted my questions. I had typed a detailed response on from my IPAD last week - only to discover that when i hit the post quick reply it told me I must be logged in ( and i was logged in.. but I must have hit a back key or something.. The Ipad and I are not frequent fliers - so it was late and i was rather disgusted with my ipad at that moment. I wanted to briefly get back and touch base with a few things that may or may not shed some light on what may be going on. First and foremost. I am not afraid to ask for help, but I also went looking for real world situations and found the following article that was really intuitive - if not almost textbook for what I seem to experience on landing. http://www.snap-and-roll.com/articles/safety/item/559-some-straight-talk-on-p51-mustang-landing-safety.html In short - I'll quote Dudley Henriques in his article: But before you read this snip.. I can only say that I really have no Idea where the ground is when I'm landing. The more I self analyze ( after reading his article and correcting some issues suggested in the tutorial about touching down at 90 mph...) the more I realize that my visual references are just not there. So - Is it my Graphics Card?? I can take off OK.. i don't need to dial in 6 degrees of rudder. I can go down the runway and sense when the plane has lifted off and apply more rudder correction and keep the wings level with no problem ( after realizing that it takes more rudder and aileron than one thinks!). I have a three monitor setup with an EVGA GT 640 2GB 128bit DDR3 pci express video card. So there is no confusion this is a GT 640 with 16 cuda cores - not at GTX 640 Is it possible that I do not have a ground reference ( or need to turn up the detail of the ground ).. Is it possible that there is a frame rate loss that I am flying into the ground before I know it? - everything seems "relatively smooth" I've been asked to post a "video" of my "landing experience" I'd me glad to - how do I do this. Let's say that I'm A Vietnam era vet so some things are not quite as obvious as they should be? Maybe this sheds some light - maybe it's just me being the text book case below - i don't know. I have increased my airspeed on my approach. i can tell you that an approach in a real aircraft is a heck of a lot easier than it is on this thing... this is all over the place! and touchy as H%^L. Thanks - I'll away some opinions and here's the article snip below. "A bounce in a 51 is NOT a big deal, at least it shouldnʼt be a big deal. But itʼs just these bounces that have contributed to the 51 landing accidents and itʼs worth a revisit to “bounce basics” as that issue affects the Mustang. A lot of it is simple basics really, and everyone flying a 51 knows these basics. In my opinion It isnʼt lack of knowledge thatʼs causing these accidents. Itʼs pilots getting caught by surprise on touchdown with UNANTICIPATED behavior from the aircraft followed by reaction rather than controlled response. In other words, itʼs a human factors issue not lack of knowledge causing these accidents. If we can recognize that human factors are a contributor and alter our behavior and habit patterns to accommodate this knowledge, we can decrease our accident potential considerably. Thatʼs a VERY positive step in accident prevention. I donʼt think thereʼs a pilot out here flying a Mustang who hasnʼt been lectured time and time again on the dangers involved with power vs available control response when landing a 51. Many of you flying 51ʼs actually teach this information. The basics are quite simple really. You get a Mustang flared out into a bad bounce somewhere around CLmax and ham hand the throttle with the prop set up around 2700 and you can be in a world of hurt PDQ. How many times has everybody heard this? Itʼs Mustang 101 right? Well, yes...........but............... if everybody knows these things, why the accidents?? Landing a Mustang as we all know should be a perfectly normal event. Thereʼs nothing supernatural about landing a P51. Itʼs a high performance airplane for sure, and if landed correctly, the result should be routine. Notice I said the RESULT should be routine. The process of landing a Mustang however should entail a prevention mind set, and by this I mean landing the aircraft in a mental state of EXPECTATION for potential landing issues. "
  6. I am very new to DCS world. I have 3 monitors and set them up with the options menu. basically 5760x1080 over 3 monitors an a panorama view. I only fly the p51 so far because I enjoy "flying".. ( or used to until now! )... I have a decent panoramic view with this set up. ( BTW I', using the HOTAS Warthog with my trims setup on my stick). - and I have rudders too) I made a 4 inch extension to the stick ( which is center mounted in front of the seat) so that helped with what I thought were touchy and overly responsive control surfaces on the model. All of those details aside, here is my problem... ( and the extension helped ) First - ( but not foremost) - It seems that when I'm landing.. just at final there is a visual lack of references ( where is the ground exactly ) In a perfect world, if my rate of decent and approach speed and visual reference of the runway was (all) correct in the windshield and were all spot on, then I should be able to just fly the thing till it touches down and then let it settle on the tail wheel. But no... The aircraft is all over the place, mostly i think because i can't grasp the concept of these two "levers" throttle and prop! It would seem that one of these controls would supply the "traction" to keep the airplane at a desired or constant rate of speed and be able to get the airplane out of trouble with some sense of control - and finesse - not lurching the thing skyward like a harrier. When I'm in the pattern I'm constantly chasing the needle with the plane in terms of altitude (which then relates to airspeed) and trying to get and keep it trimmed out. - then then it always seems to want to come in way too hot or too long, - or too short. or for some reason i never get a glide path established in my windshield and maintain a proper rate of decent. ( due to the needle chasing ) This boils down to one thing... lack of proper control of the power - so I'm obviously not getting it. A serious problem is understanding the throttle and prop control. I'm not ( or haven't by trial and error) really figured out how to apply just enough throttle to maintain proper airspeed and altitude. ( and who is who for that matter that I should be constantly correcting ) The Guided Tour is just enough to get you killed. if you don't have a clear understanding of what is really controlling the actual airspeed ( which one of those controls do I need to be tweaking on my final until it touches down? ) I really do know how to fly. I can side slip a Cessna on a steep short approach and touch down on the lines - this is no Cessna! ( of course, a Cessna only has one throttle ). I have rarely made a survivable landing due probably to the lack of ground reference and my inability to really control airspeed and glide slope - I'm just chasing the needle up and down. Has anyone else encountered this scenario - or better yet - does someone really have stick time in a P51 that could share some insight on my problem? BTW I have not updated to 1.2.8 and from the looks of things I think I'll stick with 1.2.7 for a little while. I'll be honest, I could do touch and go's in the P51 (on DSC world ) and get a lot of enjoyment out of it and be a very happy camper. ( until that wears off :) Right now I'm doing nothing but walking away from it very frustrated and I refuse to go to some "easy game or instant flight mode" That's not why I wanted DCS world and the P51. Many Thanks WoodsGLen
  7. While I'm asking questions.. on the side bar to our left at the bottom there is a category that says "warn" (0%) and some yellow blocks what's that mean? Is that some type of Troll meter?
  8. So, am i correct that this is effecting the "guided" flight training? IIRC, the instruction simulation was just stalling on me and not going beyong a certain point .. assuming because I did not use what ever input the training program was waiting for ( replacing a mouse command with a joytick command) all just an assumption on my part. if that's the case I'll just watch the tutorial and then go through a normal check list like the real world, - or perhaps a configuration that brings the plane up with the engine runnung and prettymuch ready to fly ( all I have done so far is solo practice take off -- or shal we say - attempted. I want to get this thing straightened out before I clone everyting to a samsung ssd. This is all I have on the computer so it makes life easy. As soon as I get the thing to work I'll post a picture or two of my home brew cockpit complete with bucket seat. Thanks for the advice so far. I'm going to have to take some serious time with this it looks like,
  9. I've been experimenting with profiles for my Hotus Wartog on my P51. I have not actually flown it yet! during practice takeoffs.. with the guided tour,,, things don't work In training.. one profile made the plane firewall and nose-over ( no amount of control could stop it..)end of flight... end of prop too. Another profile just had the engine proceed to die. I spent a good hour looking at what the heck switches were thrown.. were the mags off.. was the fuel off, was i on an empty tank? I did have two red lines through profiles in my set up wing tanks of something. This all leads me to a big question. in loading these profiles that others have developed..I see a number of profiles specific to "training"..etc for the P51 that are "default"in the program I've been going through threads and trying to get a grip on what to program where,,especially that trim wheel for the rudder, The last thing I need is my eyes down in the cockpit looking at my mouse trying to fiddle with that knob to get my rudder back while the AC spirals out of control. DCSworld seems to have the profiles for the P51 buried in a long path that I'm having a hard time finding. I put the ones I "borrowed"from the forum a little closer to the p51 folder itself. ( any problems with that? I really need to wipe my slate clean.. the last mess I made of things was... the program started up and the guns were blazing and the plane died (again). WTH? As you can see.. I have no experience with this stuff. I don't want to give my age but I refuse to have my 18 year old start messing with this because I want to get it right... I do know how to fly ( at least).. and other than single engine land... my last joystick was a Microsoft force feedback running WW2 fighters of MS flight simulator ( way back when ). I guess, my first question is.. where would I even put the profile for the P51.. under a specific heading like simulator or game? and I assume this would trump any profile settings in the training directory that i saw? Would the Thrustmaster and pedals control the plane in all scenarios at that point? ( or do I have to do this multiple times) I know I bit off a little more than I could chew but the idea of getting a cool simulator like this and flying it with a mouse and a keyboard is absurd. (i could go tool around in the A10 but I really had my heart set on just flying a p51 (successfully). And so I'm clear on one more thing... can I program that rudder trim wheel to be on a toggle ( l/r) switch or something so that as long as the switch is engaged the dial will turn? Using a mouse to turn a dial ( or a track ball in my case ) is a major PITA! OK. I think that covers my initial confusion. Just help me fix my screwed up grounded aircraft so I can start over with some better understanding and not half cocked like I just evidently did! I appreciate any advice on what to do here.
  10. Yes, you must have all BS 1 installed and running first. The New Black Shark 2 is light years ahead of my old version!
  11. fast reply from DSC world They gave me a quick reply. I needed to delete my black shark 2 module and then reload it. I will post if any further complication but it seems clear! thanks to all
  12. i can't get upgrade serial number to work either I'm having activation issues also with Black shark 2 upgrade. I originally bought Black Shark 1 on Steam before I ever heard of DCS world. I bought the upgrade after christmas. just got around to installing after not having time to do anything with flying, etc. it won't accept the serial number., I've tried everything, making sure black shark 1 is installed locally and steam is in offline mode and launching the program off line. tried installing the legacy version. When i install the original steam version it sends a serial number to DCS world ( i just noticed ) But i still get an invalid activation code or serial number when I try to install black shark 2. i put in a support ticket yesterday with all of my receipts, so maybe they will have an answer. I'll watch this thread.. maybe I'm doing something wrong? Woodsglen
  13. Note.. until I launch DCS world.. everything is normal.. mouse works on all three screens. I had the monitors set up as one big 2d... then went to three desktops with the center screen being the main desktop.. the mouse works on all three Now Enter DCS World... I have uninstalled and installed DCS world probably 3 times, skipped installing any of the other programs I purchased, disabled every program that may be running, and my mouse only runs on the two outside monitors ( desktops ) but disappears on the main display (probably behind) DCS world. I get a mouse over on the main screen on the menu on the right hand side.. if i go to ... options ( for example) Once I leave that screen - and go to options, for example.. there is no control over any input at all. the only key that works is Enter! the only resort is CTRL ALT DELETE and go the to task manager and get out of the out of DCS world launcher. WHAT THE HECK is my problem? My system: I have a quad core AMD 635, 16 gigs of ram evga video card gt640 /2gig GPU windows 7 home premium. 3 identical dell 24in 1080dpi monitors a thrustmaster warthog flightstick and throttle, saitek combat rudders (ALL Disconnected to make sure they weren't causing the problem) The only thing hooked up is the mouse and the keyboard at this point. I even just updated my nvidia drivers to the latest and tried it again ..just in case!.. No Luck! i am so sick of this. I have never experienced anything like this and I can't find anything on searches that comes close to my problem. Everything DOES WORK with FSX! go figure. I even uninstalled FSX to make sure there were no conflicts. I've been building a cockpit with a leather bucket seat, mounted throttle, joystick in the center position.. the whole 9 yards and purchased the DCS World modules like flaming cliffs 3 (yes I purchased lockon)... also the huey, P51 and the A10C... right after Christmas, so .. Waiting to fly this thing is a major understatement!) I uninstalled everything including lockon and dcs world... so all I have is just DCS world and I still can't do anything but look at the screen. I have two teenage boys and they can't figure it out either! I'm listening! Thanks. Wayne
