  1. People come here asking and wishing for the F-14D because of a modern HUD... aren't the F-15 and F/A-18 HUD's modern enough ?

    But the F-15 And F/A-18 HUD's aren't on an F-14.

  2. From what they said in October 2018, a -5 with MICA is happening. It's not a matter of "if" but "when". The -D version is in the realm of possibility but for this specific version nothing is set in stone at this moment.

Plus, the -5 will be scanned with their new process during their next trip to France.

Where did they post about doing a -5?

  3. The problem with turning fights is that the piper on the F-15 is off target :/

Not just in the F-15. It's also affecting the Su-27 and presumably everything else that uses that type of gun sight.

And after a bit of testing and mucking around I pretty much came to the same conclusion as the OP. Hopefully this will get fixed up soon.

  4. Sry don't know the word "notch" what I mean? Am German.

Sweep don't you understand that when there is chaff between a radar missile and the target, and when the target is moving straight away from the missile in a straight line, the missile seeker CAN'T see through there chaff (if huge amount) and WILL detonate on contact/close proximity to the chaff (depending on fuze) ? Glad I could teach u sth. and that u learned sth. :)

Pretty sure chaff just creates a chance to miss in DCS. It doesn't function as you would expect it to in the real world.

  5. How bad is high ping with the new anti-lag system? I know that in the past it often resulted in massive warping/rubber banding, but how bad are the effects of lag now? If they prove to be far less severe would you consider raising the ping limit? As it is now, I can't participate in blue flag because of the ping limit. I was able to take part in one of the early runs and it was a blast! And I'm holding out hope that one day I can take part again.

  6. Sorry but what is E-E; pK & netcode? Also, proper implementation of the Su27 datalink? What's missing/erroneous?

The fighter - fighter capability for starters.

E-E is the war that was referenced in the OP, pK is the probability of kill and netcode is... online connection stuff.

  7. I've noticed an all around drop in missile performance with with the 1.5.4 patch as well. I don't have any hard data to back it up, but in dogfights and BVR practice that I do regularly with my squadron I have been consistently missing shots that previously would have been almost guaranteed hits, and I have been evading missiles that I was convinced were going to hit. It doesn't appear to be just the Russian missiles, but all of the ones I've seen so far.

I thought I might have been going crazy, but I'm glad I wasn't the only one to notice.

  8. Oh lord... Many senitive toes being stepped on here ;) I hear you... training, tactics, and sa matters. But to say that the airframe and weapons don't matter is total bs. Two equally sklled pilots engage in BVR, one in F15 and one in a Mig29, both with SARH missiles. It doesent take a genious to figure out that the Mig29 should be at a disadvantage until WVR. Why do you think that the Mig29 got the helmet sight early on? They figured out that the BVR was not up to par with fighters such as the F15. Im not saying that ED should change anything. But the red birds should be a bit more flawed and their R27 should be a bit more unreliable and outperformed by the Aim-7M. Realistic as the technology often was rewerse engineered and industry frequently had quality issues.

Do you not think that an AIM-7M armed F-15C already has the advantage against an R-27R (NOT ER!), R-60 armed MiG-29A in the sim? If we are talking about an R-27ER armed MiG-29 then it is not all that surprising that you are being out ranged. The R-27ER has range capabilities more similar to the AIM-120.

What is the actual problem here? I mean, yes the AIM-7 under performs, but so does every missile in the game.

  9. Regarding pilot training and tactics. If Iraq had F-15s and USA had used Mig-29 during the Gulf War... Would the outcome still be the same? No MiG-29 losses in air-air combat? I don't think so, but who knows... ShuRugal, you are missing the point. It's not a discussion about pilot skill, it's a discussion if F-15C with Aim-7M is outperformed by MiG-29 and the Flanker. I would like to see the real life pilot who actually chooses a Flanker or MiG-29 over the F-15 Eagle. In DCS, the Eagle is on even grounds or worse without the amraam, and I don't think it's realistic.

Since we are using the Gulf War as our real world reference to F-15's vs MiG-29's, are you comparing an AIM-7 armed F-15C with an R-27R, R-60 armed MiG-29A, or a MiG-29S with an unrestricted armament (i.e. R-73, R-77, R-27ER/ET)? Because against a MiG-29A armed with R-60's and R-27's I would argue that an AIM-7, AIM-9M armed F-15C is indeed superior in the game.

  10. In the other thread about this I think someone said something about it firing only AP rounds at the moment. If this is true, that would explain the relatively minimal damage being inflicted.

  11. No, I dived to keep the Mirage above me = look up

But it's the same in the M-2000C.

So it's a bit sad that BVR is just about chaffs...

I realise now that you said that in your post... woops.

  12. I did a test today, 2 Su 27 full load (4 R-27ER, 2 R-27ET, 2 R-73 + ECM) Vs 2 AI M-2000C

I'm probably not the best Su 27 pilot, but despite trying to keep the target in look up, my R-27ER were almost useless. I end up in visual with R-27ET.

Even at 5.7Nm, the R-27ER get spoofed by chaffs. And M-2000C has plenty of it (112)!

Were you above the Mirages shooting down? If so, that's why your R-27's were useless.

  13. There's one tone I'll get that I really don't know what it is. Hard to write out the sound. It's high pitched. Nothing to do with maneuvering, but then again I couldn't say for sure. So yeah, that narrows it down...There's a sound the plane makes and I don't know why.

It's probably the launch warning that you only get with AMRAAM's, even then it only happens some of the time.

  14. ~snip

It's not possible that I fired in TWS because it doesn't even let you select and fire the 7s when you're in TWS.

Actually, you can. The F-15 doesn't prevent you from selecting and firing an AIM-7 if you're in TWS, nor does it prevent you from selecting TWS with an AIM-7 selected.

  15. The clarification is only partial. In some respects, your friend is correct. On its face, you should have to use H-PRF for shorter ranges than M-PRF. It's because of this thing called time. How a simple radar works is: A pulse goes out. An echo returns. You measure the amount of time that passed, do the math, and the result is an unambiguous range to the source of that echo. Successive echoes allow you to measure aspect and speed as well. But it all requires those unambiguous range readings. And you have more time between the pulses in M-PRF than H-PRF.

But here's the problem that your friend was having. When the object is distant, a pulse goes out. No echo returns. Another pulse goes out. An echo returns. Which pulse does the echo belong to? The first or the second? The range is now ambiguous. The system can't tell how far away the object actually is and all the math falls apart.

What your friend didn't mention is that modern pulse Doppler radars, in very simplistic terms, massage each outgoing pulse in some manner. When the echo returns, the software matches those distinct characteristics carried on the echo to the outgoing pulse. And we're back to unambiguous measurements of range.

Ah. The part that he explained to me was this: "A pulse goes out. An echo returns. You measure the amount of time that passed, do the math, and the result is an unambiguous range to the source of that echo." So the problem of sending out another pulse before the echo of a previous one returns has been solved?

  16. Yesterday I was talking to a friend of mine who has had some training with radar systems and he told me that HPRF and MPRF is back to front in the sim. Basically, he said that HPRF is limited to shorter ranges and MPRF is better suited for detecting targets at long range, and briefly explained why. But in DCS we use HPRF to see people at longer ranges and MPRF when they're in closer. I did a quick bit of googling and it seems to corroborate what he's saying. I'm not going to pretend to be at all knowledgeable when it comes to radar in the real world. I like to think I have a basic understanding, but it's just that, basic. So I'll ask here, are the PRF settings backwards? Is it something that's known but just hasn't been addressed yet as it's not super important? Is it something that has been overlooked? Or is there a reason that HPRF is for long range and MPRF is for closer in in the sim?
