  1. Yes. Works amazingly well. Thats why I suggested OP not buy the proclip but just the trackir camera and then use the trackir camera with the freetrack program with a 3 point led and optitrack drivers.
  2. Trying to mod a webcam to use with Freetrack is NOT the way to go. Doing it that way is a resource hog and will also not track at near the speed or resolution of an IR camera. Thats why YOU had issues & poor results. It has nothing to do with luck. Honestly, I find the freetrack software to be more "professional". Far more control over the input settings and ambient IR light level adjustments. Its not a quick out of the box setup, but once setup properly it doesnt need to be touched again. Its nice being able to just put a hat on & flick a switch and recenter as opposed to having to sit with a flimsy track clip pro with a wire from my head to a USB port and having to wear headphones any time I want to use it. I've used both products extensively and in the end, Freetrack simply wins hands down. The frustration and inconvenience I encountered using trackir is actually what drove me to using Freetrack in the first place. Freetrack still works fine with the latest DCS, as well as any other 64 bit program once you add the proper files, which can be found online.
  3. I debated mentioning that myself. So many people love trackir products. You can try and convince them until you're blue in the face, but until they've actually tried a freetrack setup, they will never know how much of an improvement it is over the overpriced naturalpoint junk.
  4. I plan to purchase the komodosim controls in the future. I have researched every corner of the internet at length and the build of these controls undeniably come out ahead in just about every aspect. Latest and greatest materials and new options are constantly coming. Rich has been around a while, is always available and he is very enthusiastic about his work. It appears he runs the fabrication locally and ships the products himself as well, although I cannot confirm that. I'm sure he will show up in this thread sooner or later.
  5. My proclip came apart on its own, despite me being very careful with it. I was not to blame. It is VERY poorly made for what they charge for it. There are numerous posts on the web by frustrated consumers, attesting to its poor quality. For cheaper than the extra price of the proclip, one would be far better off in the end building a 3 point led setup themselves to use with freetrack. Despite being slightly outdated, it still works much better and uses the trackir camera at 120+ FPS through the Optitrack SDK.
  6. Don't buy the track clip pro. Its poorly built garbage and not worth the extra cost.
  7. I switched to freetrack and built a 3 led setup. The tracking and interface is much better and I get a much greater range of head movement. Can still use the trackir camera by using the Optitrack SDK. http://naturalpointofview.blogspot.com/p/trackir-cameras-with-freetrack.html?m=1 One trick I used to overcome "chasing" the mouse with head movement was to map the mouse scroll wheel click button to pause/freeze the headtracker so I could switch what I needed then click the scroll wheel again to unpause and resume headtracking.
  8. I recently downloaded the most current version of DCS and I can confirm that freetrack works with it running Windows 7 pro. I can't remember what was involved but it had to do with dropping some updated files into a few of the folders. I found the solution somewhere online. Sorry I cant be of much more help.
  9. Ugh. Trackir is junk, their software is junk. Look at the other products they sell: all garbage. They've sold that same lousy clip for 10 years now and they're too cheap to improve it. Make a comfortable 3 point setup using IR led's and a baseball cap, and be done with that lousy clip. Use Freetrack Or facetracknoir freeware. The improvement is astonishing. You'll never ever think about lousy TrackIR again.
  10. Thanks for your reply. The precise-ness is absolutely what I am looking for.
  11. I just bought a 24" Planar to use as a secondary touchscreen. I have been wanting to use a touchscreen in DCS since BS 1 came out. From my research, touchbuddy used to be the way to go but now everyone is using Helios. I have yet to get my new rig build completed, but looking forward to trying it out.
  12. Im not new to the forum; just couldnt retrieve my old password from 2 years back. Im in the market for a decent set of helicopter flight controls to go with my new rig. My budget is around $2000 US, but I would prefer to spend less if possible. I'm looking primarily at the Komodosim AS 350 setup, as it has plenty of buttons and uses 12 bit boards, and Rich obviously knows what he is doing. I cant seem to find much else in this price range that seems to have the same quality, nor are there very many reviews of any of the products. This is obviously a very narrow market. Collective must have a twist throttle and preferably a controller box with buttons/rockers for governer control. AS-350/Eurocopter style cyclic is preferred. Before I pull the trigger, Does anyone have any other recommendations? Does anyone have any Komodosim products and can give me a fair review of their experience with that product so far? $2000+ is a lot to pay for something without at least hearing a few unbiased and detailed opinions. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have the time. I am not going to even consider building my own; I haven't the time nor the resources to do so. Thanks
