  1. Hello fine DCS community, been playing this sim for a while now and cant get enough. I've created a lot of missions for myself, but I have decided to take it a step further and start a campaign. I am a big fan of the Sabre (no matter how many flaws there are in this early of a stage), and seeing as there aren't that many campaigns out there I figured I'd share it here with anyone that will take an interest in it. Been working on it for a few days now and still have a lot of work to do but I'm planning on having the first stage out here in a couple of days. Before I go any further, I try to be as realistic as possible throughout my campaign but obviously with the length that i wanted to make it, I needed to add a bit of fiction later on in the stages when NATO would start to get involved. I figured I would post some info here first and let you guys know what it will be about that way I can get an idea of how many people are interested in a Sabre campaign. Ill start with an excerpt to briefly explain what it will be about and the general.. storyline if you will, behind the campaign set in the cold war era: Truman and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill quickly became suspicious of Stalin's intentions. George F. Kennan sent what became known as the "Long Telegram". Kennan had served at the U.S. embassy in Moscow for several years, and his opinions about Soviet mentality became the basis for American foreign policy toward the USSR. Among Kennan's assertions were that the Soviet Union was motivated by both traditional Russian imperialism and by Marxist ideology; Soviet behavior was inherently expansionist and paranoid, posing a threat to the United States and its allies. On September 24, 1946, President Truman received a report that had been based on Kennan's observations, with further contributions from Kennan. In July 1947 Kennan, writing as "Mr. X", published "The Sources of Soviet Conduct" in Foreign Affairs magazine. Kennan created a foreign policy toward the Soviet Union when he wrote: “United States policy toward the Soviet Union must be that of a long-term, patient but firm and vigilant containment of Russian expansive tendencies.” So I put that out there because it helped me form a realistic baseline of the conflict and how it starts and mostly just the course of the whole thing (reasons for different countries joining the USSR and/or leaving NATO, whether it be over fear or greed). So now that you have an idea of that, lemme tell you a bit about how it will be set up and then see what you guys have to say before posting the first mission!! The full campaign will be posted but i will give you an update frequently with videos of the mission(s), depending on if you want more videos or you just want me to finish it, lol. The course of the campaign is gonna be that Russia (USSR) has had enough of Capitalism and NATO backstabbers and has decided to get revenge for the end of WWII when "Stalin believed that the opening up a second front in Europe was intentionally delayed by the Allies so that Russia might continue to bear the brunt of the German war." Initially, Russia is going to attack on two fronts, one with Ukraine in the West, and one with Georgia in the East. Turkey, mounting a counter-attack will be the opening of the campaign. The U.S. will be brought in to help Turkey in the East and the U.K and Germany to help in the West. It will start with easier missions due to the fact that Georgia wont be ready for the counter attack and the supporting Russian forces will be low in numbers due to the fact that they haven't FULLY mobilized. As the campaign goes further, the missions will become more populated and will eventually include hot re-fuels/re-arms on the ground to get back up and get some munitions down range and possibly take out some more migs. In addition to letting you guys know what I'm working on I would like any and all feedback if your interested as far as thoughts on the subject. Questions are welcome and input is appreciated. I cant promise that it will be up soon but the process is half the battle, and fun I hope for you all. I also understand all the bugs in the sabre are not completely worked out yet, the idea is to put a campaign in motion for when they are and therefore I ask the patience of trying to work around these to provide a good experience. Out of respect to this forum I figured I would also add that the quotes and information posted earlier about the USSR is strictly me digging for a plausible storyline and in no way is a personal vendetta against anyone from the country or the country itself. Hope you all enjoy inputting your thoughts and eventually playing through it.
  2. Zychon, i definitely agree seeing as the elevator on an f-4 is right next to the area where the aircraft would be pushed. Which is the same for the sabre except that the elevator is forward of the "pushing point". Seeing as the process of "pushing" involves the wing-man pulling slightly back on the stick is counter-productive and, not to mention, gives the opportunity for the pushing pilot to damage the elevator
  3. I'm sorry Robin, I was writing that reply when you posted that so thanks for the response. And thank you for clearing that up and allowing me to learn something new because I never knew that about the air force trying to cover that up. But good to know, maybe you can answer one more question I have: i know about the f-4 refueling in the air, did you read anything about that f-8 aerial refuel because i know that i read it, but i dont know if that was true or false.
  4. Zychon, thank you very much for the reply, and i understand (hence why I'm asking this lol). And xxJohnxx, i watch the videos you post on here so thanks so much for the reply and help. And im not trying to question your knowledge here, the only thing i wanna confirm; are you saying that its not available in DCS or in real life because i definitely know that the crusader can which was right after the sabre. Like i said, just making sure John
  5. Hi everyone, lemme start off by apologizing ahead of time if this has either already been answered or if i am mistaken and it is irrelevant in the end anyway. I seem to recall (cant remember who was the pilot), but i believe it was Robert Risner, watching a story about him and his wing-man returning from a dogfight. The problem was that his wing-man was hit in the wing and had been dumping fuel and was not gonna make it back to the original base, so he improvised and put his nose (Inlet) into his wing-man's exhaust port therefore nudging him and saving fuel, trying to make it to a nearby friendly air-base. Now to the point, and the question of this thread:pilotfly:. I may be mistaken but when his wing-man punched out near the airfield and ended up landing in the water (later drowning from one of the chute chords wrapping around his neck) but anyways, I could have sworn i remember him saying that in order to make it back to the original base, he had to aerial refuel. What I'm asking; is there a way to do this in DCS? I haven't even mastered weapons yet so any answers would be appreciated. :)
  6. Wanted to start off by saying thanks to everyone that helped me out when i first posted this problem about my saitek. I am posting one more thread because i have solved this issue about 80% and any help from fellow users would be greatly appreciated so i can get back to flying in DCS. Before i jump into it, for anyone who didn't read about it, i had a problem with starting up a game in any aircraft and as soon as i input a little rudder, when i released it it would snap back to full left rudder. I have narrowed the problem down to the Saitek x52 driver update. Now, to make this rather short but sweet, the way i figured the problem out is i rolled the driver back all the way and it cured the problem. While this IS somewhat of a cure, i would like to know (specifically from all the dcs employees) if anyone else has this problem and how it is cured, i would very much like to play dcs with the full function of my saitek so any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you all,
  7. ok flyco i tried deleting the other sources but 2 things. 1. i didnt try restarting the game do you think that would help? and 2. would i need to scroll through every single aircraft and delete every single input or just the one?
  8. ok, disabled SST and problem is still there. Even in the Axis Tune screen the rudder is still sticking on the left side no matter what i do.
  9. So i checked this already but i dont know if i did it as thoroughly as your talking about. all i did was check the axis command page and make sure that no other keys are mapped in on that same line. One other thing that probably will be helpful to mention is that this is a very recent problem and the only change ive made very recently is to download the new drivers from saitek, and downloaded the SST so i can manage profiles straight from the profile editor. is there something in the SST i should check or maybe im just thinking too hard? Thanks again
  10. Hi everyone i have been playing dcs for about 6 months now so yes, first lemme start off by saying i am pretty damn new. Also i would like to apologize if this has been covered already but i have spent a lot of time researching trying to fix this and get back up in the virtual sky. So, now to the problem, ive been trying to get the a-10c start-up procedure down and ive got most of it pretty good including radio presets and navigation setup but on the taxi to the runway is where i first encountered the problem. My rudders are stuck to the left. I have checked the calibration on my saitek x52 in windows multiple times but everytime it checks out fine. i have tried to reset the axis in the controls screen to no avail. im at the point where i have uninstalled dcs and am now in the process of reinstalling it but if this doesnt work then i would like your guys' opinions. i have been diagnosing the problem by getting into instant action and just inputing some rudder and everytime i release the input the rudder snaps to full left Any feedback would b much appreciated, Thanks
