OK, after trying for a while to get the avi tool to work, and failing, I'm now trying to work with Fraps. But there are a few difficulties, namely, whenever I record in Fraps my FPS goes down to about 4 or 5. Which means I have to slow down time to 1/6 or even slower so capture all the frames. The resulting video file is huge for even a few seconds of capture. This is half OK because at least I have the file which I can start to work with in Premiere. So I speed up the clip in Premiere and change the levels a bit. All's fine, until I render... Just this minute I rendered a 45 second clip of an Su-33 popping his nose out of a hangar. 800x600 uncompressed avi straight from Premiere was 1.88gb, much larger than the original Fraps footage, and much worse quality. Considering it's six times shorter aswell, I dunno what I'm doing wrong. Final compression also turns up a large file with ridiculous quality. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

:cry::cry::cry::cry: Edited. Now is 'print screen' :P

Good strategic flight, as in flanking some bandits and attacking from behind? Or staying out of their range completely, just following the waypoints and landing? Also, it's one thing to anticipate your enemy's next move, I'm not bad at that, but it's another thing having the knowledge to know how to counter that. And Ironhand, yeah they just didn't show up in the original print screen. Didn't really matter but thanks for noticing ;)

http://xs413.xs.to/xs413/07122/heading.jpg No 275...? That's why I'm dividing by 10 all the time lol. Another question, might make your day this one  How do you know which way to taxi? Yesterday I taxied what must have been the wrong way, after a while ended up at the wrong end of the runway, and me, thinking all was fine, asked permission for takeoff. Lucky I did lol, someone was coming straight down towards me, only just managed to avoid collision  As for TS, I've got it and a mic so should be around tonight all going well.

skinners...yeah I know the feeling :( lol, just take off again!:pilotfly: Bat...I'm in the UK. And I actually evaded a few shots from one of your guys the other night. But that was before he shot me down with an AIM-120 at short range which I missed in my confusion :music_whistling: A quick question about the AWACS. When it tells you the heading, what should I be following on the heading on the HUD? At the moment I'm dividing the heading AWACS give me by ten and following that, so if there are bandits at 274, I follow 27 on the HUD scale thingy. Hope that wasn't as confusing to you as it was to me :P Another question, what does Angels Low High (or variants) mean? Does it mean (complete guess) friendlies low bandits high? Thanks for all the help given :) real help, thanks.

I seem to have bitten off more than I can chew this time...I've just started playing online, and my god, it's impossible :D Just now I've had someone chasing my tail with his cannon blazing, SAMs flying within 5 feet of me and AWACS doing no favours by giving me info I can barely understand...all this while I'm locking up someone and after 3 seconds my lock breaks. I suppose I'll learn eventually :smartass: but at the moment I could just do with some tips from you guys or maybe a squadron to take me under their wing for a bit. I really don't know why so few play online, although I'm finding it difficult I sure couldn't have a better time offline. Flying amongst others has been a rewarding experience...my knowledge of the game has come on a lot in the last few days, and I wouldn't mind at all learning more :D So, if there's any secrets you're in the mood for sharing, then spit it out! Thanks in advance

I saw it being played on a PS2 in Game the other day. Looked beautiful, but arcadey as hell. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I didn't even see a cockpit in 15 minutes of watching it :(

http://www.armedassault.com/ That's what you're all looking for. Brilliant combat simulation, the aeroplanes in it are relatively realistic (nothing like LOMAC though) and the copters feel pretty realistic...but that's probably because I've never played Enemy Engaged or similar. The stuff on the ground is phenomenal though, really tense and...well...realistic. Best thing about it though is support for TrackIR, which I'm sure will please a few here ;) There are also a few aircraft vids on related.

http://www.thebattlesim.com My guess would be a tank sight, but don't take it from me. I think a few guys on here have played it...a Glowing_Amraam movie comes to mind...but my memory is bad this late on a Friday ;)

Okay this is just raw data, no calculations done for speed lost etc. From just looking at the speeds it seems at these altitudes R-77 is much faster than the 120. Just compare the flight and distance from launch aircraft at detonation...the R-77 has travelled further in less time. Oh, and both missiles hit the target. Target: UK C-130 Range: 20km Speed: 380 Alt: 5000 AIM-120C Flight time: 36.12s Burn time: 7.63s Speed at burn: 3131 Speed at detonation: 1119 Speed at 20s: 1850 Speed at 30s: 1278 Distance from launch aircraft at 20s: 11.5km Distance from launch aircraft at 30s: 14.5km Distance from launch aircraft at detonation: 15.6km R-77 Flight time: 31.33s Burn time: 8.81s Speed at burn: 3425 Speed at detonation: 1217 Speed at 20s: 1941 Speed at 30s: 1260 Distance from launch aircraft at 20s: 12.6km Distance from launch aircraft at 30s: 15.7km Distance from launch aircraft at detonation: 16.0km

Thanks for all the help, especially Ardillita and Ironhand for the tracks. You really should make that track into a proper tutorial Ardillita, it's brilliant...after trying a few times to dodge ERs with the pull up at last minute method and failing, I tried your break into the missile at last minute method and evaded every one :) As far as testing goes, I'm gonna start some AIM-120 vs R-77, and R-27ER vs R-27EM now. Will post results as soon as I get them :) Oh and after destroying my target on evasion practice I went for some low-flying fun under pylons...and caught the screenie of the week  Flying too low and scraping my left wingtip along the ground my Su-33 got into a tangled mess and was about to hit the ground, when me, not wanting to see the beautiful creature in a burning wreck, hit the Escape key. And the whole of LockOn Land flooded instantly :D:D:D http://xs413.xs.to/xs413/07105/lockonscreen.jpg

Waypoints are fine, I made sure about that :) I'll check the alt because those results do seem to differ a lot with Ironhand's 15km test. Edit: Sorry for confusion, I got completely mixed up then, alt is actually 2000m. I will try 5000m as soon as I can. One more thing, should I test automatically, ie setting up two AI aircraft, giving them waypoints each and telling one to launch at a certain time, or manually (like I am doing now), setting up one AI and one player aircraft, giving them waypoints each and then launching manually (flying on autopilot).

Okay this is interesting (for me anyway :)). I must have messed up on the other test (I'm still clumsy in the editor), but this time I set up a pretty accurate test (I think hehe). Target: C-130 Angle: 90° coming in from the right Launch range: 20km Target directly in the centre of the HUD. Alt: 2000 Speed: 600 AIM-120 Flight time: 42.85 secs Burn time: 7.62 secs Speed upon launch: 3018 Speed upon detonation: 796 Speed lost: 63.071/sec R-77 Flight time: 40.87 secs Burn time: 9.06 secs Speed upon launch: 3300 Speed upon detonation: 774 Speed lost: 79.409/sec Both missiles hit the ground instead of the target. Don't ask why the flight times are so different to my other test, I messed up completely on the other (or maybe this?) one
-
And another quick and dirty test :D C-130 at 90°, missile launched with target on nose exactly as Ironhand had it. 20km range on launch with the target directly ahead. AIM-120: 31.87 seconds R-77: 22.75 seconds No idea how you got the speeds of the missile but these are the flight times. Both missiles had enough E to hit the target. All times are taken from an average of 5 seperate times in v1.12a. The 120s time increased loads, but 77 generally stayed the same. If anyone can tell me how I can test even further...I will, I've got time to burn tonight

Well...in an hour of Lock On I can say confidently that I managed to evade one ER (Su-33vSu-27) and been hit by around 30 :D At least I'm learning...I dunno how you guys can do it...The one I evaded I didn't even see, just guessed based on how far away the 33 seemed to me and how fast ERs travel. Is that how I should be going? Or should I look out for the smoke (which I tried to, but failed completely) and go from there? Oh, and, can you get the Su-33 I'm up against launch as early as possible in the editor? All that happens at the moment is the 33 launches at 73 range, giving me little time to realise what's going on or look for the trail. Thanks for all the input.
-
Thanks Ardillita, very helpful track. The evasion techniques are completely different to what I'm doing at the moment, I'm pulling up looking at the RWR, which makes it quite difficult to evade multiple missiles that come in quickly like you did. Snaking and timing turning into the missile looks a good technique, albeit difficult...the 120s missed your nose by an inch! I'll give it a go later. So you're saying I should not bother with ETs in these engagements? Toss an EM/R first instead of the ET? Wouldn't that bring about loads of missile evasions as the second Eagle will have plenty of time to fire off his load while you concentrate on guiding the EM/R at the first Eagle?
-
Ironhand's tactics are much the same in his "Clipped Eagles". After tossing an ET at the trailing Eagle, he then treats the fight as 1v1 until the lead Eagle is down. I'm fine with this...but when the fight with the trailer become WVR I have problems. It's not particularly the fact that I'm in a 1v2 situation...it's the fact that I'm getting into a CAC 1v1 situation, which I'm not used to. It seems I need to practice evasion at long range without using the RWR before I get into close range. Then I can pull up on gut feeling rather than staring at my RWR all the time :D At these times I long for TrackIR...hehe Pilotasso...I'm getting shot at with the Sparrow all the time not because of timing my launches wrong, but (I think) because I'm following Ironhand's tactics and throwing an ET out first, which, as he mentioned, shortens the range of all the R27s. Maybe (this might be a completely nooby suggestion because I have hardly any experience using these tactics) I should hit the first Eagle with an ET on IRST mode at shortish range, then swing around and hit the second Eagle in a similar manner. But I'm guessing if neither Eagle notices me sneaking up on them in the first place, they will both notice the smoke trail of the ET and subsequently my surprise advantage will be lost. Then the same situation will occur as I have been trying to avoid...a short range fight with 1, maybe even 2 Eagles. I will experiment when I get a chance to get flying again :D It would be interesting to know the tactics of other people concerning the use of the RWR, IRST and being in close. For all I know I've just posted a nice long post of gibberish ;)

After a bit of practice in my Flanker I am now proficient at dodging those pesky 120s the F-15s like to send at me. All goes well 1v1 and 2v2 at BVR. But when I get 1v2, and the fight becomes WVR, the 15s just fire a Sparrow and I don't have a chance. I have no situational awareness at this point completely; I can spot the telltale trail of the Sparrow and my RWR tells me somethings inbound, but I can't time a climb, like I do with the ARHs, or evade the thing with violent manoeuvres to save my life. Is it just a case of breaking hard, dumping chaff and praying? Or is there something I'm missing?
-
Nope, ending all processes except those crucial to Windows doesn't work. I'm out of ideas, could there be a codec installed that I'm not noticing?
-
No luck with the graphics driver, I was running the latest version and have tried earlier version also. @Solidburn...Yeah that happened to me before I reinstalled trying to rectify the problem, and now I get a bit of loading. @Andrew...I've tried many suggestions made in the other threads, uninstalling optional programs, leaving nothing running apart from Lock On, trying different settings with no luck whatsoever.

I know it's been mentioned before, but as far as I know a solution is yet to be found. It's a problem with the Lock On "Record AVI" tool: While viewing the map of my edited track, I go to Flight > Record AVI. This comes up, which I assume is normal as I have seen it in other screenshots. http://xs112.xs.to/xs112/07093/lockon3.jpg After selecting the settings above, I click on "Start". Now from what I've heard LO should show the loading screen up to the point it's been told to start recording, and then records the track at a relatively low speed. However, what has happened to me and to others is that it loads for some time, maybe five seconds, and then crashes to the desktop. It still shows in the taskbar, the music still plays, and if I wait a while the sounds of my track play, but other than that, I can't do anything. Also, at the very start, Lock On is unresponsive, but this changes if I wait a while. The only way to quit is to End Task from the Task Manager. http://xs112.xs.to/xs112/07093/lockon1.jpg The only two codecs I have installed (to my knowledge) is DivX and XviD. I'm running Windows XP Home on 1GB of RAM with version 1.12a of Lock On. I have tried leaving it until the audio of my track has finished, and then looking for the avi file, but with no luck. Any suggestions? If I have posted this in the wrong forum, please move...I couldn't decide between Screenshots and Movies and Bugs :D

@Aeroscout, 1GB It's escalated to the problem of complete crashes at any time, it's making the game unplayable, crashing in the middle of a mission and having to restart isn't all that fun. It might be my codecs as was mentioned before, but I have uninstalled anything that could interfere with the game and still no luck, if anything it's got worse. Also, I was playing with version 1.1 for a while before I patched up to 1.12a and then the problems started...I will try a reinstall and will not patch tonight. v1.12a isn't much of an improvement for me anyway...I rarely play online (for now). Thanks for the help. Update: It seems OK now...I installed a new beta driver, reinstalled Lock On and I'm now running v1.12a without problems for a while.

Yep, and this has turned into one of those things ;) I fired up Lock On again to check and when flying the 27, I pushed the throttle to full and full right rudder was applied. I couldn't believe it, so I quit the mission and fired it up again...same result. Thinking the worst I played a mission in the 15, but there everything was fine but not fixed, the afterburner still controlled by the RNG knob. Then it hit me...I couldn't release my AMRAAM. I couldn't fire my cannon. I couldn't do anything with my Cougar apart from move the stick around and turn on the burners. Thinking it was a hardware fault, I opened up Falcon, but everything was fine...burners on at full throttle, my mappings worked perfectly. Same in FSX, and IL2. I'm checking and double checking the control edits, but so far nothing :( How do you do that? I've checked the input controls under options, and there's a thrust/speed up/down control (which is clear), but I can't find the curves. Thanks for all your help, porky. EDIT: OK, you can all now call me the doziest person who has ever played Lock On :D I decided to investigate the problem further, wondering if the problem was that the RNG rotary was controlling thrust instead of the throttle. Of course it turns out it was, after a few minutes looking and testing at the RPM gauge in the 15, I had found the source of my problem. I then looked for a way to view the axis ingame as was suggested, and me being me had overlooked the "axis" button in the options. At once the problem became evident...it seems that the default options for Lock On (Gold) was that the RNG knob controlled thrust...and the throttle controlled yaw. So, anyway, after seeming a bit of trouble it was in fact, an extremely simple problem :) Sorry for all who I've bothered, and thanks for your help
-
Nope, no luck :( I cleared all controls in the options and still no afterburner. I'm beginning to think it's a problem with Foxy (why would the RNG rotary, that has been mapped to MFD zooming control what the throttle should?), so I'm gonna mess around with that.

While free flying from the main menu, I sometimes get unpredictable freezes, forcing a restart of the system. Lock On: Flaming Cliffs patched to 1.12 Windows XP Home Geforce 7300LE Asus M2N-MX AMD Sempron 3400+ CPUZ.txt Thanks.
