Reactivation after new build
steel_tiger1 replied to Hellcat's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Tried that but something, I don't know what, didn't work right. My fault I'm sure. It would have been nice if it had but alas that is finally done as of last night. -
Reactivation after new build

I can tell you redownloading sucks. I am in the process now. Built new ryzen 7 system with 960 EVO M2 and I have to download everything from ED, I have been working on it for a week now. My internet speed is good but the torrent system sucks. -
FPS issues with new computer
steel_tiger1 replied to Arramis's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Depends on memory and motherboard. I have seen some stable overclocks around 3100. Very manufacturer dependent. Good quality memory is a must with Ryzen. -
Thanks, still making room for it, full tower, will I never learn. I have window 10 pro loaded updated and all the bios and drivers loaded and updated. Tonight I am going to deauthorize the modules on this pc and start loading DCS on the new beast.

Just thought I would post an update. The last piece of hardware arrives tomorrow. The memory comes via fedEx and I can finish assembly and installation of the remaining components. Looking forward to getting it set up and installing DCS and getting back to flying. I still need to pick up a TrackIR but should be set otherwise. Here is what I ended up with: AMD - Ryzen 7 1700X 3.4GHz 8-Core Processor Corsair - H110i Liquid CPU Cooler ASRock - Fatal1ty X370 Professional Gaming ATX AM4 Motherboard G.Skill - Flare X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory Samsung - 960 EVO 500GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive Cooler Master - Storm Stryker (White) ATX Full Tower Case Corsair - 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply Microsoft - Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit G.Skill - Ripjaws KM780 MX Wired Gaming Keyboard HP - 120GB 3.5" Solid State Drive (2 x) Asus - GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card

Thanks. You and Pilotasso got me thinking really hard about it, so thank you. I will most likely buy from Newegg, memory will be the last thing I buy, so I am not sitting on it to long to return it. Thanks
-
Already own them. Bought them for $500 for the pair 6 months ago. Friend was upgrading to a VR and wanted 1080ti's. He had just purchased them so they have little time on them.

Quick update. I have revamped my whole thought behind my new build. And based on some research and taking future compatibility into account I decided to dump the Intel direction. I purchased the motherboard last night and got shipping confirmation today. This is what the new rig is so far. AMD - Ryzen 7 1700 3.0GHz 8-Core Processor Cooler yet to be determined. Memory: In research phase Power supply: In research phase ASRock - Fatal1ty X370 Professional Gaming ATX AM4 Motherboard Samsung - 850 EVO 500GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive Cooler Master - Storm Stryker (White) ATX Full Tower Case Microsoft - Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit HP - 128GB 3.5" Solid State Drive Free with purchase of motherboard (2 x) Asus - GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card Question is how accurate is PC Partpicker in calculating wattage requirements according to it I need 655w so I am thinking 750 should be enough? Thanks

upgrade intel i7 4790k to Intel i7-7820X

Pilotasso have you had any issues with the motherboard you are using? I read some not flattering things about it. -
Updated slightly with motherboard. I am not sure what cooler to use. I have been reading about all copper coolers to eliminate long term galvonic reactions. And yes I have read all the differences on air vs. water. I want water for asthetics. Intel - Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor Asus - STRIX Z270-E GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Samsung - 850 EVO 500GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive Cooler Master - Storm Stryker (White) ATX Full Tower Case EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply LG - WH14NS40 Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer Microsoft - Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit (2 x) Asus - GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card

Ok so now I am leaning towards the Asus ROG Maximus Code motherboard or the MSI titanium gaming motherboard.

Recommendation instead?

So last fall I picked up the 2 980ti cards for $500 and I already have the case. I want to build for the upcoming changes with the F-14 & F-18 carrier ops and all. I was going to build a system right after the first of the year and decided to hold off until the Ryzen was out, but it looks like the Ryzen isn't going to be as good for gaming at this point. I have always built AMD machines they have served me well over the years but it looks like Intel still has the edge here in the gaming community. I am not interested in VR at this point, it's to expensive and not mature enough, it's more of a novelty right now. What are the thoughts from the community on the items from my PC Part Picker list? Anything I need to be aware of or change? My concern is the memory I want to get a good match with the system.I will probably be adding additional SSDs as well. One other thing is the cooler. The board has the option for liquid cooling the chipset but I have never done that before, in fact I have never liquid cooled anything. I know the Kracken is a good cooler but How does one cool the chipset do I need and additional cooler or just a differnt one all together? Intel - Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor Noctua - NT-H1 3.5g Thermal Paste Asus - MAXIMUS IX FORMULA ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Samsung - 850 EVO 500GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive Cooler Master - Storm Stryker (White) ATX Full Tower Case EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply LG - WH14NS40 Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer Microsoft - Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit G.Skill - Trident Z RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3600 Memory NZXT - Kraken X52 Rev 2 73.1 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (2 x) Asus - GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card Thanks for looking this over.

Pair of 980ti's for a steal Now what?
steel_tiger1 replied to steel_tiger1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I am not sure that is the right link it for a demo team. -
Ok so I just bought off of my friend a pair of Asus 980ti 6GD5's. I want to optimize a build for DCS 2.0. Primarily my interest is going to be the carrier fighters. I have nothing else for a new build yet. I have been doing some research but I want get community input as what a good set up will be. Maximum frame rates and best graphics are the goal. I also think I am going to use the Cooler Master Storm Striker case but I am open on that too. I use this site mess around on http://pcpartpicker.com/products/motherboard/#sort=d6&page=1 Community input is greatly appreciated. Thanks Steel

Vote for virtual air wing. Limitless possibilities.

The tomcat is the only thing I have been really interested in flying. So I would like to be in on this. Although admittedly I need more sim time.
-
I want the Mig
-
Actually saw them on an F-22 Raptor on a hot July day at an airshow, was awesome.

Thanks for all the insight so far. I am going to take the plunge on the x-55. Seems to make sense price wise. And nothing coming down the pipe to wait for it seems.

Ok so I finally have some money to purchase a new Hotas. My Logitek pro joystick has been crap for years and has made flying DCS near impossible except for a few "fing" around flights. With the F18 finally around the corner I need to take a look at what is available or even better what might be on the horizon. I read all the crap about the X55 but it looks like the only real option right now. I am reading the trouble people are having with the Warthog now and for that kind of bank it had better be problem free. And Thrustmaster not supporting it to speak of. I need input (pun I know). Has the X55 matured enough to be a safe purchase? Or is something really good on the horizon? Thanks
