Hi All,
so far I've learned how to use the CDU to
- build flight plans
- review waypoint information
- add waypoints based on JTAC data
- divert to get airfield info
- create waypoints based on offset data
- initiate in-flight alignment procedure
If I wanted to get a bit more fussy about it and learn other bits it has to offer in DCS, what else could I accomplish toying with the CDU?
- build flight plans

Okay thanks.
Meh. Kinda sucks btw.

Hello all, just googled "dcs have wingman rearm" and found this 2013 ED forum thread. It says it's not possible. Any new developments as to the wingman rearm/fueling and jumping back in for a second round of tank busting?
-
ok. well, I don't know exactly how it is configured. You'd have to be a forum admin to know for sure. But, basically, the more rep you have, the bigger the green bar.
Okay I know, sorry to be a pain. After all, it's not all that important. But there has to be some logic behind this system, and it's certainly not rocket science. Thanks for your time guys.

I have 768 reputation points which equates to 7 green squares.
Does not compute.
-
Thread marked as unsolved.
-
Maybe not enough space for 173 squares... :D
-
Well my reputation power is as low as can be, but I've thrown you my +1 rep anyways! Thanks!
EDIT: you actually DID rep me! I hadn't even noticed, thanks man!
-
EDIT:to see how many reputation points you have, click on the +/- of one of your own posts. Now how bout repping me for my helpful post?:D
I might do just that. But first :):
Rep power is how much rep you can add to or take away from someone else's reputation. The green squares are how much reputation YOU actually have.Okay, so I think I'm lost even further. When I click the icon in one of my posts, I get info that I have 10 reputation points. So there's three figures:
- reputation points
- reputation power
- green squares
Please explain further :(

I have the same question. I've had tracks go haywire when accelerating time during playback. Is this normal?

Thanks sniperwolfpk5.

Hi All,
how does the rep system really work?
I've clicked the little "+/-" button to see what it does, and I get a window to choose between Approval or Disapproval, plus a text field to describe my opinion about the post (or so I believe).
- Will this opinion be visible to all?
- Can I have a summary of all "reputation notes" I've given out, and also of those I've been given?
- I've seen several people with rep power at 1, but they had a different amount of "green squares". How is that?
I'd like to better understand how all this plays.
- Will this opinion be visible to all?
-
Very interesting indeed, thanks Marluk.

You can edit in any proper coding editor ( I use Notepad++ ), but you can only 'compile' or run from within the Target environment.
Does Notepad++ retain syntax highlight?

the dispersion of the GAU8 which is greater than it should be
It is?!
the serial under-achievement of the CBUs the 87 in particularYou're basically telling me I might not be as lame as I thought at this.
Seriously I didn't know about the weapons flaws. I'm certainly not as hardcore as most here, but I've watched almost all YouTube has on DCS, read the manual completely maybe three times, read quite a few other PDFs, webpages and forum threads, and I haven't yet heard the weapons were that off.
EDIT: BTW, I like your analysis.
-
Yeah true.
Probably, the physics benefit the most accurate modelling in the simulation. After all, mankind's been flying for some time now, and there's nothing secret anymore about the mechanics of subsonic flight. As to weapons systems... I believe the level of modelling is satisfying as it is now, considering the A-10 is a combat plane still in service today. Maybe in 20 years we'll have a simulator which depicts all these details with perfection, as the Hog will be quite obsolete by then, and home computers will be all that more powerful.
And to digress: I always saw big military stuff as classified, and I'm amazed one can get already so close to the real thing just sitting at home. I mean, really, it looks like anyone who can fire this mean machine's engines in the game could do it in RL! (I'm NOT implying that one could fly the plane and manage targets and all that stuff; there's so much more to real aircraft operation than we get in DCS. Even if the E/O or anything else was better modelled, you'd still not qualify to even enter a real army simulator I guess. But I don't care, this simulation is incredible, I love it! :joystick:)

Oh I really meant a tool to compose the scripts. I always paste the text in TM's editor to compile. There's no other way AFAIK. But I'd also be interested to know if there's some other way to compiling.
-
Thanks Rongor. I always felt tracking was a way more complex thing than just directing the gate on an object and BOOM you get a lock. Now I begin to see HOW this is actually more complex.
Very interesting IMO.

Wow, very, very nice work! A lot of effort has been put into this. Congratulations and thanks for sharing!
-
I only tried the GUI for 15 minutes. It's not as badly done as many people seem to say. But still I can't see why someone would rather use it than writing their own script. I've a tiny experience in Java, so a line of code or two doesn't scare me. That being said, even without any coding experience, I would still always recommend to forget the GUI and start scripting.
Only gripe I have is the script editor's reverse video style. I might be aging already, but pure white monospace text on pure black background is torture to my eyes and nervous system after minute 1.
Any text editor will do, though, unless you can't live without syntax highlight. Do you use TM's editor?

...it simulates the aggregate probability of capability and in a manner which is sadly very transparent for the end user after long enough.
It hasn't become transparent to me yet. Could you explain a little more? How do these weaknesses become most apparent (Maverickwise I mean)?
-
Oh, and:
DCS is a simulation. So it is simulated. There is no contrast. There also are no real objects nor sensors. It's all colorful pixels on your monitor. No?! Really?! Aaawwwwww, shizzles, I really thought every time I fired DCS there were actual military planes flying awkwardly, missing every other target and crashing in Ukraine...
-
Thanks guys.
This could be almost directly replicated within DCS - pixels are just pixels, no matter how they were generated or where they come from. You totally got my point here.
-
Thanks!
Everything programmed and rolling now! I come from Saitek's SST world, and I must say TM's TARGET really is powerful after the syntax starts sinking in.
Later this afternoon, I realized that the one place to get all names is actually the GUI version of TARGET, which provides with nice little 3D models of the devices, plus active position markers on every control.

Yeah I sort of forgot to include this one in my "known" list.
As to the videos I've watched a ton.
Virtual squadron websites I've browsed a few, some very nice documents to find there by amazingly involved people. I might keep digging further into this.
Now about real world A-10 handbooks. I've found stuff, but I can't recall detailed documentation about the workings of the CDU. If someone could give me the name of one of those handbooks I could A: check if I have it already, and if so read it with heightened attention level or B: search the Interwebs with a proper keyword.
