  1. I've been playing ground attack all day as I'm new to this P-51 and boy is it fun! I could sure use a Thunderbolt 'cause that bird is more Butch than anything from WWII but still, the P-51 is such a joy to fly up them narrow canyons. I've found a sweet place just northwest of Gudauta. Just fly 20km NW and follow a river up a canyon. Put in some armored colums travelling south from the northern lake, throw in a FAC, put in low cloud cover and rain to make it gritty and you're all set for bombing and rocket practice. So far I've only used trucks, BTRs and the odd T-55 - I don't know if I need any heavy AAA in the mix, guess I'll get there later ;)

I'm sure this is old news to most of you guys, but I haven't had this much sim-fun for years as I have with DCS :)

  2. Now THAT'S how DCS-vids should look like!

What perfection, what suspense...and what a rewarding ending!

Things both look and feel so much more real without labels and ubersmooth head movements.

Also, I tried my first dogfight yesterday, at low level against a Messerschmitt...got really messed up. Now I know why - great thread :)

  3. @Chappie

Interesting, especially that about the landing just being an extension of the proper procedures. Me, I was definitely in a hurry to get my hands dirty and just scratch the landings from my list.

You on the other hand want the whole truth about it. We have totally different approaches, but this was good reading. Thought-provoking :)

  4. The best indicator is the engine exhaust pipes but that needs a severe shift of the view to either left or right (depends on preference). I've assigned view shifts and center to HOTAS.

Hang on, you mean you use the exhaust pipes for aligning to the 12 degree angle?!

    Otherwise, solid info :)

  5. Hi all!

As I'm brand new to this here wonderful warhorse I've had some...problems, shall we say ;)

Main part being killing myself on landing (mostly). I've watched a few videos in this forum:

159th_Viper had a video landing like a pro, Double_D another nice video, Ali Fish wrote this wonderful basic script:

    10 practice

    20 Practice

    30 add wind

    40 goto 10

I did some button pressing on a TexasInstruments computer when I was a kid back in 80s and I can say I will definitely apply this script to myself!

But anyways, I feel there's a lack of quick catchy guides for dummies like myself (noobs and the like) so here's my contribution:

I hope I don't get too much flak for this, but I just feel sometimes you gotta dumb things down a bit. Y'know, so regular folks can get some stick time too. Having said that, if any mods feel this is WAY wrong, not in line with the standards of this forum and such, I will not make scene if you feel this needs removing...'cause the "damage" is already made at youtube :music_whistling:

  6. Anyone been able to disembark troops from choppers after latest "update", by using the mission editor, please sound off.

Or one can use scripts instead, but why really? I mean this isn't rocket science, one should be able to use the mission editor like before. How can they mess up the most critical mission of our dear choppers: to transport troops?

  7. Hey TXSailor!

    About de-icing:

I ride with this configuration. Been trying it out in -20C and heavy snowfall :)

And if you're paranoid like me, switch all switches twice, y'know like "activate" them and shit.

(The whole thing means De-icing is AUTO as general systems go, but it's ON for both engines whilst just auto for windshield and system itself...or something)

  8. In the Mi-8 overhead console you can choose about five different radiosystems and also, the default radioband is now set to FM. There's also a switch for that on the overhead console. From having the big radio switch to УКР (means UKR in latin letters) I believe you get the R-863 working but remember to flick from spu to rad (СПУ-РАД) and flick the AM/FM switch to AM...pheeew...THEN I believe I've been able to talk to ATCs...but no ground troops ;)

Or did I do all this with the 828? Hell I don't rememeber. I JUST WANT EASY COMMS!

C'mon, dumb it down for us - let Boris the technician do all the the comms!

    Let ME fly! :joystick:

  9. That was good info, I assigned the triggers for two separate buttons and tried it out. I still don't get the F7 option for ground troops when I'm using the radio at the correct frequency but now as I'm trying out all different sorts of combos, I noticed that when I have easy comms ON I can't just talk to any ATC tower just like that, but I DO get in contact with them using my newly assigned radio button having entered their respective frequencies (and when using easy comms I get all frequensies listed). But still, the ground troop F7 eludes me.

Also, I have to dial in to VHF AM to use the radio button correctly - otherwise when I press it it just says INTERCOM from the start (which is logic...or not, I'm doing this with easy comms on)

Intercom button always says INTERCOM though.

Just a thought: Am I in some kind of limbo between easy comms and hard comms? As I'm quite disoriented by now I can't remember properly but did one have to enter the frequencies manually for different ATCs when using easy comms before? I have to do that now anyways.

AND BIG THANKS FOR THE ATTENTION!

  10. Anyone, how do you get troops to disembark? I used to be able to talk to them via communications menu and then "Descent"...but no more. Is there any other hidden command? Cause they just won't disembark on their own even though you've landed at their drop-off point. Basically, I can't talk to them anymore and they can't disembark themselves. Great.
