I've only had my PCL since mid-September, but it's been great with no issues. The few times I needed customer support (to help out with user error) they've been prompt. Helpful on discord too. fingers crossed, I guess.

Same here. Lenses were iffy - like many others - replacements received within a month and it's now the only one of my headsets that I use - every day. I'm constantly amazed by how great everything looks in it. My only dislike - being picky - of the hardware is the heavy cable. If it's not in just the right place I really notice it's weight. Used together with Point Control it's easily the best flight simming experience I've had.

In fact, after being very on/off with DCS and other sims for the last few years, the Crystal Light has got me wanting to fly every day again.

Having said all that, their support could be better, especially with comms, and I think they exaggerate too much in their product descriptions. Most manufacturers or dealers do to some extent, but I think Pimax don't do themselves any favours with some of their claims - just feeds the fire. I think their enthusiasm also often gets the better of them. TBH though, if they hadn't released this headset I'd still be waiting for Deckard - if it ever shows up.

  2. Don't be disheartened - in my experience support have been on the ball - and I contacted them quite a bit in the first few weeks. Sometimes they do need a little nudge (as our friend Calvin is very good at doing) but that's usually because they have a lot on their hands, I am led to believe. My issues were resolved and usually pretty quickly in comparison to other VR outfits.

For the kiowa/gaz for example, a good gameplay loop to add to the game would have been some sort of additional "scout helo" gameplay. I.e. rather than just making it a poor mans apache it would have been good to have the kiowa be able to direct AI/player airstrikes by other units, or even call in artillery. That would have significantly enhanced the value proposition of the module.

    Aaah, my dream...

will also note, from the video. I get that everyone is eager for the Dynamic Campaign. It's a monumental undertaking. For example, way back when Falcon 4's Dynamic Campaign took over 5 years to do. They only had one flyable aircraft to deal with, and 1 era. This DC release has to be whatever one expects, and beyond. Even Falcon 4's campaign while good for its time wouldn't cut it if we just copied and pasted it into DCS (not that that is even possible) And before you say, oh he doesn't know, I have been flying simulations since the early days, I bought a computer for Falcon. It has to meet or more so exceed expectations now, and some of those expectations are immense and well beyond what has been seen. Our internal expectations have to be met as we know you want nothing but an exceptional experience with it.

Don't forget that, a few years back when interviewed one of the dev's responsible for the Falcon 4 dynamic campaign said that they would never do it again and if they had known how hard it was going to be, they wouldn't have started doing it in the first place. Think it may have been in PC Pilot magazine.

People like to not recognise that, ignore it or just spew their usual bull. To put it bluntly.

  5. No - I've been having a problem - highly likely a Pimax one - where OpenXR will not work and the result is that DCS World always starts up SteamVR. So no, it hasn't been dropped 🙂

Also, my SteamVR performance has been very nice, except in the Chinook.

*edit: using sim installation, not Steam version of it.

You should post your dcs log if you are crashing so we can take a look, ST is dead if you are having issues with MT we need to see the data, it will help.

I thought it was simply overloading the graphics card, but it turns out it's something to do with my headset and the freeze was caused by a SteamVR crash. SteamVR is currently unable to find my headset (but the Pimax software is finding it - so it's a SteamVR or Pimax software issue). I tried to run in OpenXR/PimaxXR, but for some reason SteamVR is still starting up, and that stops everything. Hopefully find a fix to get it at least working in OpenXR while Pimax support get their backsides in gear and look at my issue, which they currently aren't doing as they fobbed me off to their support FAQ.

Anyway, OT but explains the freeze up in MT.

  7. Just an additional note - the above posted results were in ST. Today I tried it in MT and it was a whole lot worse. My mistake on the res posted before - I'm actually at 100% in DCS World.

The cockpit textures took several minutes to load in - long after the 'instructor' had finished his intro spiel. The framerate started at 45 and as each section of the cockpit textures loaded in, the framerate dropped until it was in the mid-teens. The frametime for GPU was in the mid 40's and for the CPU the mid 20's. The graphs in fpsVR were all a solid wall of red. The VRAM was at 15.3GB out of the available 15.7 which I thought would be a good thing, but seems not.

Anyway, when I exited the Chinook mission because it would be hopeless to continue, the sim froze and VR crashed. This is actually a good example of why I stay on ST at the moment.

So definitely a "Wait, out" for now.

  8. I just tried it for the first time. I just did a clean, fresh install of DCS World and there have been no updates (cos I just did it, so...).

No mods at all and while I was so happy with an average 67fps in my F-16C on a busy Persian Gulf mission with my new Crystal Light (at 70% res and 90Hz), the fps in a cold & dark Chinook, in the start-up training mission, is 22-23. On external view it rises to average 46fps, as soon as I got back into the VC it drops to 22-23 again. There was obvious stuttering as the Hummer drives past. I was too concerned to do more than the first few steps of the start-up, after what I experienced when the Apache was released (which was waaay worse) and which is now performing very well.

I think this one just needs some time, like those before it. I'll revisit next year - still have a Kiowa to learn.

Maybe a little off topic but since this is a Pimax Crystal thread, maybe someone can help me. I updated my Pimax Play to 1.33.01.01 and now when I load the game, I am moving out of the hanger to the point I am outside. Hitting 5 on the num pad brings me back to start menu but I start moving outside again. Thoughts?

    Thank you in advance!

This sort of issue usually happens when an axis or button is assigned (intentionally or not) to a view movement function.

I strongly suggest checking through all the assignments - including axes, to see if that has happened.

Just cos you didn't assign it, does not necessarily mean it isn't happening! (has happened to me before, too).

  10. Umm, I use two! PCL for serious, long missions or Pico 4 for quick stuff or training missions and the like. Actual time spent in each is probably about equal, but if I had to stick with one, it would be the PCL, so that's what I've chosen.

Reverb G2 since January 2021. I'm in the market for an upgrade, and was considering the Quest 3 but I just ordered the Crystal Light today!

The PCL is a weird one - it can seem a bit strange to start with and make you feel a bit cross-eyed, but stick with it cos you do get used to it and it's a fantastic headset. Had mine 3 weeks before I got used to the 'view'.

Just wondering what alternatives are available for this (in VR) if any?

I use fpsVR - but I don't know if it can be used outside of SteamVR. It gives a running data on many things - even down to battery charge for wireless headsets - and gives you a summary with average figures at the end of the session. You can get it to keep logs and have it display on the monitor if desired. Some examples below

    SkyrimVR + fpsVR with Pico4 + 4080_cr.jpgDCSW27 4080 fpsVRop.jpegSkyrimVR with 4080 Index_cr.png

  12. I decided not to update - my sim is working well with the 30 version and I'm reluctant to possibly upset the apple cart with 33. I didn't use any extra apps like OpenXR Toolkit or PimaxXR and just flew via SteamVR and the experience was plenty good enough (lens problem excepted). Average 67fps with a low teens frametime is good enough just now.

Yes, no tools required.  Default Nvidia control panel settings, PimaxXR Control Center all deselected except recenter headset, DFR on Balanced in Pimax Play, no Smoothing, I have my Pixel Density set to .6 in DCS, but you can get finer control in the Pimax Play app.  This is to suit my 3080Ti.  BTW, if you have the headset at 90hz, and you can't get 90fps sitting in the main menu, your resolution is too high for your GPU.  Adjust the headset resolution or pixel density accordingly until you can get 90fps, or even 120fps in the main menu.

Launch into your favourite mission.  Let's say you are getting 66fps.  Press Esc, Options, drag the Max FPS slider down to 60 (10% headroom), and Resume.  This approach works regardless of graphics settings or mission workload.

Performance has been outstanding in DCS World (ST - not tried MT yet) without any additional utilities, at 90Hz and my standard settings that I used for VR since 2.7

Average mission framerate is 67 and GPU frametime is mid-teens. Noticed the odd stuttering of AI in heavy missions but otherwise no complaints. CPU frametime averaged at 4ms. I haven't enabled motion smoothing or tried FFR as yet as I usually say "if it ain't broke..." but will try and see where it goes. Extreme dimming is set. Tested in Caucasus and PG

Relevance to the Topic ? No wonder so many topics get Derailed with crap !  The topic is not JDs Name.

    Thanks Calvin ~S~

I'm so sorry that I was posting a friendly anecdote - but the forum provides a very simple solution and I can guarantee you won't be hearing from me again, now I know what your attitude is.

You will receive $400 discount and has not changed.

Thanks Calvin - I think you might have made a mistake in your response to  @Hartsblade though - according to the page you linked, only Crystal owners get the discount, not Crystal Light owners. Either that or the page is wrong?

Are you considering a trade-in/credit for Crystal Light owners? I love my Crystal Light and would love some type of upgrade path to the Super.

Right now there is no such plan. The Crystal Light is already very competitively priced. The Crystal is part of the 12K Trade-in program, and Crystal owners also get $400 discount when purchasing the Crystal Super.

  16. I'm hoping I can avoid using most of these tools. I used to use everything there was, and then some! Was really into tweaking and experimenting and testing for the first few years after Rift CV1 arrived - but about two years ago I dumped everything and just used the tools that come with the headset and it's UI along with whatever VR sim or prog I was using and thus far it's gone very well.

Have the sinking feeling that won't be possible when the Crystal Light arrives, but still holding out hope!
