No worries. like everything else, it's easy when you know how. At least that what my grandfather said about flying with the RFC :) Black & white is often all you get, so at a glace your left with other clues to make an identification. Like I said it's a question of orientation between the Finnish & Latvian roundels, Finnish on the flat / Latvian on the point, like the German. However the German swastika was only ever placed on the tail and although it was initially applied in a white circle on a red band, this practice ended shortly after hostilities broke out in WW2, whereas the Fins and Latvians never placed them on the tail at all, just wings and fuse only. After that the fins had a sensible habit of starting their aircraft serial numbers with letters that helped to identify the type of aircraft. Like GL-XXX for the Gladiator & MT-XXX, Messerschmitt, BL-XXX Bristol Blenheim, BW-XXX Brewster Buffalo, PE-XXX Petlyakov Pe-2, LG-XXX LaGG-3, MS-XXX Morane-Saulnier 406,407 & finaly "Mörkö-Morane" or "LaGG Morane" a local field mod running with the Klimov engine, and so on and on. It made sense as they had such a large variety of types. So with all this in mind our Latvian Gladiator was never going to be Finnish :) But ironically enough it could have been German. Some Latvian Gladiators changed hands twice, once from Latvia to the Russians then from the Russians to the Germans. Apparently ending up towing gliders in flying schools. At the risk of sounding like a WW2 plane spotter I'm gonna hang up my parka now :)
-
"Actually", in this case it is a Latvian one :) Latvian swastika's, while in the same orientation as the German, (ie, diamond as opposed to Finnish square orientation), were red on a white circle. Yes I thought this also. I just tested it with the stock subs to see if it was already a feature. I reasoned that the stock sub models a pretty dated looking at any rate and if someone was making a new one this might be something to try. That's why I posted it here in the 3d modelling section.
-
This is just an idea... Does anyone know if it would be possible to link an animation, in this case one that would dive the sub, to the mission editor (ME) command dictating alarm state, red/green/auto? In ME or combined arms, many land vehicles respond to a change in their alarm status with among other things model animations. Eg., radar antenna deployment/retraction. So I fugured why not do this with a sub to make it submerge. I had a look at the stock subs and while you can set their alarm state, nothing appears to happen.

Make flyable helicopters (SU-25T cockpit)
willys replied to Sukhoi25's topic in How To Mod for DCS World
I'd guess the reason nobody has answered this so far is that it's not possible. To be perfectly honest I don't think it should be possible. DCS is a fantastic simulator, they made entry level aircraft free like the Su-25T & TF-51 and I find that is both admirable and good business sense. The Su-25T is still a fantastic simulation some 10 years after many of us rushed out and bought it in the flaming cliffs add-on for Lomac. In fact since responding to your request for help about adding missiles to the Su-25T, I have found myself flying it more than ever and getting much pleasure from it. So back on topic. Like I said in a word no, no it's not possible. You would need the Ka-50 addon for such a mod to work. In fact I've tried the mods you mention and for me they don't meet the standards I now expect from DCS, but that's just me. I'd really like you to be able to come to your own conclusion on that. As it happens, by pure luck more than good judgement, I can help you :) I found out the other day when doing a full install that by accident I had bought the DCS black shark 2 module TWICE ! I double checked and sure enough I have two separate DCS Ka-50's. My mistake, no worries. Since I did this a few years ago and just happened to find out right when you posted this request for help, I figured it must have your name on it. So I checked with ED and they tell me it's a simple matter to transfer as a gift. So I'm offering it to you. All you need to do is provide me with your DCS World username, not your username for this forum, if you don't have one get one. And I'll do the transfer straight away. -
Well I was sure I had them all, but as luck would have it I'can't find that particular one. While I try and figure out where I stashed it or inadvertantly deleted it, you could ask the guy on the that site, tell him his link is down. They are still updating stuff as the Su-24M was updated only 3 days ago.
-
Which link died?, please be specific as I have them all and may be able to help.

While re-installing my paid modules after doing a full new install of 1.2.15 I noticed the following; My Su-25, A-10A, F-15C & Su-27 wallpaper buttons (and therefore the option to select their corresponding wallpapers) had vanished when I installed my FC3 module. This may not seem important to some, but I don't get much immersion from the FC3 wallpaper (an F-15 painted as an Su-27) when I fly the "real" Su-27, or the others. Especially when I had (and paid for) the option prior to re-installing FC3. I hope this can be fixed properly. I could always un-stall FC3 as it offers little benefit for me at the moment, but it's not a fix I'm keen on.

Cougar parts & Mods - Cougar / Warthog compatibility
willys replied to willys's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
FSSB-R3 eh, thanks for the info that most certainly could be an option of interest. Link for the lazy http://www.realsimulator.com/html/fssb_r3_warthog.html It sure ain't cheap, but show me something decent that is. From their sales pitch... "high-precision maneuvers that are impossible without hundreds of training hours, are now made easily, thanks to the smoothness of control in areas close to the neutral position." ...if it's true I guess I could get some joy back from my "floppy flanker (Su-27) :) Then I realised that I'd need to convert my throttle and pedals to USB as well....when bingo, looking around their site I found all I need for that and more... ...they do this conversion for the Cougar too :) http://www.realsimulator.com/html/fssb.html That would just leave my Cougar micro-stick (which while not a game breaker, would be nice to have back) and a Hall Sensor for the throttle. -
Cougar parts & Mods - Cougar / Warthog compatibility
willys replied to willys's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
According to TM website the Cougar & Warthog joystick handles are interchangeable. I'm thinking about the possibility of ordering the Warthog component that the joystick handle fits into, ie. the ball joint part & splicing that into my Cougar, somehow :) then slapping my compatible cougar handle on top. That would kill two birds with one stone, dead gimbals and pots. Other than that; 1. Do you know if the Aussie bloke still does the uber 2 gimbals? 2. Where do I get the Hall sensors from or what are the part number? -
Su-24MR engine texture missing I noticed this just after a clean 1.2.15 install & it's still there after adding all the currently available modules.
-
Cougar parts & Mods I would like to know what the current (early 2015) situation is with Hotas Cougars spares & or Mods is? After zapping around the net and coming to many dead websites, I've sent some emails but still await response... I bought my cougar new in 2005 and it's just coming on 10 years old. I dusted it off the other day and set it up to be reminded why I had put it away in the first place. Classic cougar problems include: X & Y pots are spiking, micro-stick & the wear in the joystick gimbals is now severe. Cougar / Warthog Hybrid? I looked at replacing it with a warthog, but I'm not yet sold on the idea and really love my cougar & apart for anything else my simped f-16 pedals, which still work like new, would not work with a warthog (at least I doubt it) Does anyone know if there is much if any part commonality between the two?

DCS World 1.2.15 Release Build Discussion
willys replied to *Rage*'s topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Just done installing everything from scratch & gave everything a quick test. All is well again. I'm even tempted to say better in some ways... ...still testing. MiG-15 is a neat little bird :) -
Adding weapons to an aircraft: R-27ET (AA-10) on SU-27T
willys replied to Sukhoi25's topic in How To Mod for DCS World
No worries, your welcome. These text edits are the easiest mods you can do (once you know what to do) but they can provide a lot of fun. I spent a bit of time fooling around with this since then and came up with some other stuff you may well enjoy. Things got cut short with the 1.2.15 update going wrong for me and I'm currently trying to get it working again. Anyhow, now you know what your doing you might want to try some of these ideas; As you were looking for better A2A for the Su-25T, I remembered that the MiG-31 has some good IR missiles. It has pylons that carry 2 R-60's which are symmetrical, ie. one stack leans to the left & the other to the right. You will have to take that into account when editing. Also it has the R-40T which is a beast of a missile with a 30 km range and a 70kg warhead which 9kgs heavier than the warhead on am AIM-54 Phoenix (F-14 Tomact missile) is supposed to be the most potent ever made. And I think 30kms is more than plenty in the Su-25 which has no BVR capabilites. So here are a few codes to play with: { CLSID = "{B0DBC591-0F52-4F7D-AD7B-51E67725FB81}" }, --R-60*2port { CLSID = "{275A2855-4A79-4B2D-B082-91EA2ADF4691}" }, --R-60*2stbd Like I said these are double R-60's and opposites. Look best with port for pylon 1 and stbd for pylon 11 but you can put them anywhere (except pylon 6 for some reason) { CLSID = "{5F26DBC2-FB43-4153-92DE-6BBCE26CB0FF}" }, --R-40T Looks good on inner pylons 5 & 7 or 4 & 8 as it's a large missile. { CLSID = "{88DAC840-9F75-4531-8689-B46E64E42E53}" }, --R-27T Slightly smaller than the R-27ET More on this when I get back up and running. Have fun. -

DCS World 1.2.15 Release Build Discussion
willys replied to *Rage*'s topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Yes it seems to have done for quite a few people. I still cannot get it repaired or started, all this after it supposedly updated itself to 1.2.15 I can't say I'm impressed really as I have now read that people with the closed beta had the same problems....so why release it as open beta. I'm currently downloading the whole 1.2.15 which is a whopping 8.98Gb on a Friday night net connection shared with someone watching streaming TV. All with a view to re-installing the whole thing. Not my plan for the weekend really. Some say 1.2.15 is great, others say it's a frame rate disaster....I hope not ! And the whole thing is going down without a word from anyone involved in making it happen. -

Mine is dead too. Ran the update, now it won't start at all. Tried repair, tried exe in main bin folder just flashes the start pic and dies. Do I need to re-install the whole thing? I hope not, as I have all the add-ons but one. -
Adding weapons to an aircraft: R-27ET (AA-10) on SU-27T
willys replied to Sukhoi25's topic in How To Mod for DCS World
In detail, here goes; Tools you may need A decent text editor, like Notepad ++ http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v6.7.4.html JGSME to make life easy for adding/removing your weapon tweek (especially before/after official updates. 1st on the list of this thread - http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=127098&highlight=jgsme Material you will need Su-25T.lua file and to make things easier here Su-27.lua Both can be found here; DCS World/Scripts/Database/planes A basic understanding of what you need to do These aircraft .lua files contain (among other information) the data DCS World needs to put a weapon/pylon combination together for you to select in the DCSW editor. So you need to open your .lua file with your text editor and add the necessary weapon data to your chosen pylon, then save your edit & test fly.* *It is however a sensible idea to at least make a backup copy of the original file. This is where JGSME is great as you never need to alter any original files. Method 1.To open your .lua file with your text editor, you might first have to right click after selecting it and choose "Open with...". Tick the box to make it permanent and you'll be good to go with a normal double left click thereafter. 2. Scroll down until you get to pylon 2, like this; pylon(2, 0, -0.610000, -0.325000, -4.359000, { FiZ = -3, arg = 309, }, { { CLSID = "B-8M1 - 20 S-8OFP2" }, { CLSID = "{FB3CE165-BF07-4979-887C-92B87F13276B}" }, { CLSID = "{0511E528-EA28-4caf-A212-00D1408DF10A}" }, { CLSID = "{29A828E2-C6BB-11d8-9897-000476191836}" }, { CLSID = "{3C612111-C7AD-476E-8A8E-2485812F4E5C}" }, { CLSID = "{4203753......... You will notice that all the pylons are full of CLSID entries like above that make little sense to you or me. 3. Open your Su-27.lua file. Now scroll down to pylon 3 like this; pylon(3, 0, -1.137000, -0.321000, -4.524000, { arg = 310 ,arg_value = 0, use_full_connector_position = true, }, { { CLSID = "{FBC29BFE-3D24-4C64-B81D-941239D12249}" , arg_value = 0.3}, --R-73 { CLSID = "{9B25D316-0434-4954-868F-D51DB1A38DF0}" }, --R-27R { CLSID = "{88DAC840-9F75-4531-8689-B46E64E42E53}" }, --R-27T { CLSID = "{E8069896-8435-4B90-95C0-01A03AE6E400}" }, --R-27ER { CLSID = "{B79C379A-9E87-4E50-A1EE-7F7E29C2E87A}" }, --R-27ET Here you will notice that the programmer had kindly left us a clue as to what each CSLID number means. 4. Copy the required CSLID code from your Su-27.lua file like this; { CLSID = "{B79C379A-9E87-4E50-A1EE-7F7E29C2E87A}" }, --R-27ET and paste it into a suitable pylon in your Su-25T.lua file, I added it to the bottom of the list like this; pylon(2, 0, -0.610000, -0.325000, -4.359000, { FiZ = -3, arg = 309, }, { { CLSID = "B-8M1 - 20 S-8OFP2" }, { CLSID = "{FB3CE165-BF07-4979-887C-92B87F13276B}" }, { CLSID = "{0511E528-EA28-4caf-A212-00D1408DF10A}" }, { CLSID = "{29A828E2-C6BB-11d8-9897-000476191836}" }, { CLSID = "{3C612111-C7AD-476E-8A8E-2485812F4E5C}" }, { CLSID = "{4203753F-8198-4E85-9924-6F8FF679F9FF}" }, { CLSID = "{37DCC01E-9E02-432F-B61D-10C166CA2798}" }, { CLSID = "{D5435F26-F120-4FA3-9867-34ACE562EF1B}" }, { CLSID = "{7AEC222D-C523-425e-B714-719C0D1EB14D}" }, { CLSID = "{35B698AC-9FEF-4EC4-AD29-484A0085F62B}" }, { CLSID = "{BD289E34-DF84-4C5E-9220-4B14C346E79D}" }, { CLSID = "{96A7F676-F956-404A-AD04-F33FB2C74884}" }, { CLSID = "{96A7F676-F956-404A-AD04-F33FB2C74881}" }, { CLSID = "{637334E4-AB5A-47C0-83A6-51B7F1DF3CD5}" }, { CLSID = "{F72F47E5-C83A-4B85-96ED-D3E46671EE9A}" }, { CLSID = "{FC56DF80-9B09-44C5-8976-DCFAFF219062}" }, { CLSID = "{3858707D-F5D5-4bbb-BDD8-ABB0530EBC7C}" }, { CLSID = "{A0648264-4BC0-4EE8-A543-D119F6BA4257}" }, { CLSID = "{3DFB7320-AB0E-11d7-9897-000476191836}" }, { CLSID = "{0180F983-C14A-11d8-9897-000476191836}" }, { CLSID = "{CBC29BFE-3D24-4C64-B81D-941239D12249}" }, { CLSID = "{B79C379A-9E87-4E50-A1EE-7F7E29C2E87A}" }, --R-27ET } 5. Repeat for other pylons. 6. Save edits and test fly. Notes I put the R-27ET onto pylon 2 in the Su-25T as it is the second pylon from the, (left I think), wing-tip. The opposite side would be pylon 10. If you look at how many CLSID entries there are on a given pylon it can help you figure out where on the aircraft that pylon is. Eg. Pylon 6 has only two entries so we can say that it is the centreline pylon that carries either of the two large pods. Not all weapon will work on all aircraft. E.g. A radar guided weapon needs an aircraft that has radar. Even then it's not always sure to work. Hope this helps. As it sounds like a fun idea I made the tweak for my own use, putting the R-27ET on the pylons that already offer the R-60M or R-73 as options. I tested it and it works just fine. I attach this little mod ready for use with JGSME (folder structure) so that you can use it as an example. Su-25T Weapons Mod.zip -
I'm keen on making a mod to represent the Russian airborne Khibiny jamming pod. I've searched these forums & my DCS install but so far can't find anything to start from in the way of an example of the ECM pods we already have. Could be they're hard coded or I'm just missing something. Any help would be appreciated.

Looking for Hardcore Mod'er (If you succeed you'll get paid)
willys replied to drhyed's topic in DCS Modding
These guys seem to be pretty "hardcore" in that they mix "n" match Aircraft/flight models/cockpit/avioncs resulting in things like flyable F-15E strike eagles with F-15C pits sporting an A-10C TV display for launching mavericks. They've also done stuff like make flyable swing wing planes like Tornado and Tomcat with movable wings. At worst they could probably tell you what's not do-able. btw it's in German. http://www.lockonforum.de/index.php?threads/flyable-fc3-flieger-mit-3d-f-15c-cockpit.6667/ -
Hawk Flight,Weapon,Weapon Pylon fix
willys replied to Bewsher's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Nice tweek Bewsher. I don't seem to be able to drop the inner bombs though, must be missing something simple? -
I think your right. I have already modified the Ka-50 to carry other weapons but cannot yet get the TV guided Kh-29T to function. Probably as the Ka-50 would need some of the "avionics" of the Su-25 to do so. I'm not sure but I bet someone will make it happen at some point, but I too doubt if it would be ED.
