  1. This is the most annoying. While flight tech. adjust pitch and bank channel so it prevents from reaching full authority he does not care about heading channel. Why is that?

Heading channel act funny anyway it is unusable.

I work around the faulty flight tech and heading channel with the pedals: when I see that AP is nearing authority I apply pedal to the direction AP compensates and trim, helo wont turn but channel goes to neutral. Basically I do (adjust heading channel with pedals and trim) what the tech. supposed to do. It is annoying to say the least. Also noticed that the more the headin channel is out the more you have to apply pedals to make change in headings (AP switches off). Which isalso annoying and dangerous in real lifethe moment you touch pead the AP disengages regardless to the ammount of correction it applies.

Otherwise mi-8 is awesome... just pleasemake tech. adjust heading also

  2. Well said Hadwell. Based on their previous 'outing' the Mig21bis, I would say that Im very confident that Leatherneck will deliver the best quality full DCS study-sim possible.

I dont think there would be a problem with the overall graphical quality of the product, that is a strong side of LN but not so much the working of the aircraft systems. The Mig has quite simple systems and LN was not able to implement those accuratelly. Take a look at the bugs and problems threads at the Mig forum. If only I saw one single finished product from LN I would believe that they are capable to put a real beast together like the tomcat...

  3. You can post here your camo request for MiG-21Bis. I try to create as many user requested skin as I can.

    Rules:

    - I accept only MiG-21Bis skins requests that based on the real example (e.g. the skin must be exist in real life)

    - In cases if your AF operate other variant of MiG-21 (MF, SMT, M, MT) I accept other subtype skins as well.

    - Fictional skins allowed only the countries that doesn't operate MiG-21. (e.g. USA, Canada, France, etc...)

    - Post as many good resolution of pics or link about the requested skin as you can. You can also send me a mail, PM about skin examples.

The following skins are already done for DCS:MiG-21Bis:

Where can I find these skins?

  4. Granted, but you keep posting that there must be some range estimation involved.

    OK lets make it clear:

    1. In A-A "GUN" "AUTO" mode: yes the ASP computes based on target distance if it is locked, contrary to LNs implementation.

    2. In A-A "Missile" mode: no he ASP does not compute any distance no radar is needed and no fancy circle is drawn around target in ASP, it is only beep and launch authorized light, contrary to LNs implementation.

    There are additional minor things:

3 the left black distance range meter is not implemented correctly (it works like the "lazur" system it is updated with data from the ground controll not from radar)

    4. the transparent distance meter is also incorrect it does not show distance whatsoever

I am not a perfectionist I would be happy if LN fixed the first one, which is most annoying and makes the game unusable, and if they have some time between two professional discussions with "real mig-21 pilots" they could also fix the 4th one which would be a great help.

  5. iiozic: For the record: I have no idea how the modern planes do that, to have a debate with me on that would be fruitless :) One thing is for sure the Mig does not do that. No fancy circle around planes on the ASP, nothing just plane beep in the helmet indicates lock, thats all. I have no idea where leatherneck got this mess called ASP from, when it is a pretty well documented issue as discussed here.

  6. Every side in conflict exadurates wins and diminishes losses, that's how it is: like talking about a fight in a bar to friends. I have read numoerous accounts on vietnam losses and it is ridicoulous how far the numbers are from each other based on sides.

One thing for sure NEVER believe anything to someone who is on either side.

  7. In fact he said that it was very rare to use any channel at all even at long flights because the AP is too "sensitive" he said. When you otherwise would let the plane to move naturally because of some wind disturbances the AP compensates. It tries to be way too "smooth" flier for his taste.

However the heading channel comes handy when some precision landing must be done because it keeps the planes nose "rock solid" even when collective input. The sim however lets the yaw change when collective input.

  8. He did not fly it I just showed him. He flew the "old" Mi-8 not the MTV2.

He said in level flight AP is fine but when you disturb level flight or hover with lets say collective input (both raise or lower) he was surprised that the nose went sideways, he said such thing did not happen. Also he was surprised that with altitude channel on I could gain or loose altitude with pitch, he said no such thing is possible: if you keep inputs small it will maintain level if too much pitch input AP disengages.

He has some 4000 hours on it, so I tend to believe, just I tought let you know.

  9. It is impossible to finish I think. It gets closer and closer to the real one based on inputs of users and devs and one day something better comes up for that era (Mig-23 for DCS world 4.0 :)), and our love slowly dies :(

I think it irrelevant to call beta or even missleading: it is always beta and never. I flown this beauty from the begining, I think it never was classically beta it kinda always worked on me, it did its job (exept for the ASP which is still a mess :))

  10. I think this probably means system wise it is complete, satisfactorily functioning as intended. More artwork still in the pipeline though. Just my interpretation though. -Woog

You should visit bugs and broblems threads more frequently :)

  11. Well it is out of beta but not finished. If I get it right it is something in between beta and finished, then it gets more finished than beta I guess and a lot more finished and less beta and at the end it gets mostly finished just a little bit beta...

  12. Stuff like this comes down to whether anyone in real life would be able to figure this out without dying first. I'm going to guess that you crashed the plane a few times before figuring out this trick?

I dont think anyone in real life would risk that for a very practical reason: the Mig's engine responds way too slowly for correcting any errors it is safer to have thrust and play with pitch than other way around like in fast responding prop planes (I flew only prop). Thougj I know that it is possible to land the Mig with an engine out.

I think the reason why glide is so important is speed controll: you must be below 300 to land safely and you can not guarantee it with a steep glide and fast pickup at a right place. I regularry land with the sim at 350-380 without any problem which again is quite unrealistic I guess and very dangerous, probably after 2-3 such landing the base commander would make me pay for the tires I ruined :)

  13. Soviet planes are not documented? Think about it again:

    http://militechlit.rusff.ru/viewtopic.php?id=16

That was just a short google, you have everything from ground maintenance to flight manual. There is an other world opening up by speaking languages :)

I dunno about western counterparts, but these are actual military documents. What more we need?

(I hate when someone says russian, those things were not russian they were Soviet!)

  14. The first versions of the Mig-21 they say did not have radar which is partially true. The f-13 nose section was not big enough to house a full combat radar unit but it did house an SRD-5 (codename kvant) radar distance unit which fed ASP with distance for AA guns. The subsequent mig21 versions were equipped with radar which made the radar range unit obsolete (as all radars have simple ranging mode) but interestingly the two seater later MIGs retained the old radar ranging unit as they has small nose sections too. Why? To keep them at least partially combat capable. This is also a big argument that it is completelly insane even to assume that the bis has no gun ranging when the two seater whith less combat value had.
