  1. What about XB70 case?

I think everything you’ve said has been pretty well disproven, but I wanted to comment on this because I love the XB-70. The XB-70 incident you mentioned was an aircraft that as I remember it made an emergency landing while still heavily loaded. The loaded weight on the XB-70 is around 530000 pounds. Empty weight is 253000 pounds. We can safely assume the aircraft in question was within these weight parameters during that landing, and max braking at those weights is likely to cause a brake fire. The F-15 you compare it to has an empty weight of 28000 pounds and a loaded weight of around 44000 pounds. Again we can assume the accident aircraft was within these weights. It’s clear to me that a 253-530K pound aircraft with 1960s brakes and early, if any, ABS and unique experimental wheels would be, idk, maybe a little more susceptible to brake fire and tire blowouts than a 25-44K pound jet with modern ABS and brakes as well as more refined tires.

Now, people who have bought the new map and the F/A-18C, are forced to have Open Beta which gets worse with every update. Telling them to use the release version, while they paid, while Open Beta is getting worse with every update, is not really fair.

    *snip*

Firstly, Eagle Dynamics is a business and must make a profit in order to survive and pay its employees. I don’t blame them for wanting to get the new map and F/A-18 our the door, these two modules will turn a massive profit for them and help them stay afloat so that they can focus on the bugs in the free DCS overhead. Secondly, both Persian Gulf and the F/A-18C are early-access alphas/betas. I don’t know why you would ever expect them to release on the stable build and not open beta considering this, and considering that it has never been done that way.

  3. Tried that and it worked. I mean, it didn't work right off the bat, but there seem to be a somewhat precise location that you need to be at.

I used to ask when I was stopped, holding short of the runway. However, as per your suggestion, I tried moving forward a couple more feet, right on the edge of the runway. And then stop and ask.

That is what was the problem... It's a bit dumb that it doesn't answer unless you are on a precise point (of course as long as you are on the right runway), but at least now I know what to do to make it work.

And it explains why I was able to do it 10% of the time. It's probably because I was coincidentally at the right spot, 10% of the time.

Thanks for the cue on the "tip of the nose over the runway"!

Yeah no problem, glad it worked for you. I used to have the exact same issue so I sat down and just kept trying different positions until it worked.

  4. In most missions, with most modules, I can never have the authorization for takeoff. The ATC just doesn't answer.

I've looked around the forum I have seen similar posts, but with no real answer to it...

Everybody seems to think it's because people can't set their radio on properly... but how do you explain that I was able to get my authorization for start-up and also my authorization for taxi.

I've tried different things, like asking it while I am rolling on the taxiway, or waiting to be stopped just before the runway... nothing seems to work.

I wait and wait and nothing.... And when I finally get pissed off and decide to takeoff, as I roll onto the runway, ATC will say that I am not clear for takeoff, and then change its mind and tell me I am clear for takeoff 3 seconds later....

And this isn't at a specific airport. The problem is generalized.

    What gives?

(easy comm is off, however I have the issue on any modules, even FC3).

Sit on the taxiway where it Ts with the runway and get as close as possible without putting the tip of your nose over the runway. Come to a complete stop and try it. This is what always works for me. Also make sure you are holding short of the correct runway (E.G. runway 33 at Guadata instead of 15 if that's where ATC told you to go)

  5. I was playing around with the Hawkeye a bit and noticed a couple of things that I hope ED will address.

1: The Rotodome spins the wrong Direction! In game now it spins Counter Clockwise. It should spin clockwise.

2: The engine start up sequence should be engine one, then engine two, and should take at LEAST 5 minutes, not 30 seconds to start rolling.

3: Most of the time the Hawkeye crews will taxi with wings folded until they are near ready to turn onto the Runway and/or just behind the JBD on the carrier. Currently the wings are unfolding right at start-up.

Lastly I request that ED create a 4 bladed E-2C model for use with our F-14's and older generation Naval assets. The French, Japanese, Portuguese, and other military's that only operate the E-2C Hawkeye surely would appreciate it. The E-2D did not go IOC with the first squadron until 2014, and even now is has not been distributed to the entire fleet yet.

The E-2D model is lovely, but a little bit out of place as it is state of the art brand new hardware, nothing else in DCS is of this era. Please consider my request ED.

    Sincerely, -Woog

All aircraft start up in 30 seconds as AI, even the A-10C which should take at least 10 Mins from battery on to taxi will be taxiing in 30 seconds. There’s no real need for ED to model an E-2C for the aesthetic, it vs. the E-2D has little difference beyond look as in game radars are currently not simulated properly. The French use 8 bladed Hawkeyes as well.

  6. Bind zoom to the friction slider on the TM Warthog and set a very small deadzone on your TrackIR, memorize where the TGP carat is on the HUD and put the center of the pupper on it and fire. These are the two ways I do it, I either zoom in and find the target visually, or I just remember where the carat is and place he pupper there and pull stage one of the trigger as soon as I’m over it.

  7. look at her... shes so dirty and i love it !

Thank you for this image good sir, I’ve been looking high and low for images of bird 501 from VAQ-135 as a reference for weathering scale models, I now have a beautiful one showing all that glorious grime.

  8. The Mirage F-1 just became a whole lot more interesting prospect for enjoying in DCS. ATAC USA has just purchased 63 F-1's plus 150 engines from France. I could imagine some challenging Agressor type DLC campaigns based on F-1's vs Hornets.

Was also just reading that Draken International had also recently purchased 22 upgraded F-1M's & B's from Spain.

Jesus, that’s a lot of jets for a private company.

  9. Hey Mirknir, your mental health is more important than the server, if you need a break don't hesitate to take one! It will allow time for DCS to merge and mature (they are running a MP test later this month) and you will come back refreshed.

I do like the idea of making it a PvE server, that would get rid of a lot of the complaints and allow you to relax a bit.

Agreed, if you need a break Mirk don't hesitate, we'll be here waiting when you return
