  1. I want to experiment with the joystick sensitivity. The joystick is a Logitech extreme 3D Pro "X3d". I attached a screenshot of what I am trying to do. On the top left is the joystick main software page. I know to go to "edit profile", "create new" (to the window at the bottom right of the screenshot". You can see in that window I need to find the game's executable file. So I click "Browse". To the right pops up the next window, but I don't know which file the executable is in for this purpose?.To the right, there is a folder "DCS world" but there are a bunch of folders and I clicked through some of them but I'm not sure which one is the right folder. Anyway, let me know.
  2. Ok, first off, after flying the mission a bunch of times, I did make progress. I was able to circle around right at the unpause and level out more. I really squeeze the joystick hard so my forearms get a workout; not sure if this is what a pilot in real life would experience. But I did get through the gates. Seems to be practice helps a lot here. A few things: " attached are a zipped .acmi and a .trk file of me practising with some FAB-500s against some unsuspecting targets " I couldn't open the files. The computer prompts a message about what kind of app to open these files with. What should I browse for? What does SEAD stand for? "If the flanker is fully fueled, not to mention loaded with bombs, dont expect to do hard maneuvers and still have it under control" Yes, that makes perfect sense now, in hindsight. I totally realize how this is correct. "advise against using the autopilot .... makes the aircraft nearly unflyable even after it's been disabled" Good to know other people have seen this. I thought it was just me. As long as I know what to expect from the aircraft, I can plan for it. Its hard when you're a beginner sometimes: you're not sure what is intrinsic to the plane or if its just your lack of skill, as is the case with me. No, I haven't touched the S key yet. I saw another thread on the forum while cruising for answers to some of my questions and I found where the S key caused the plane to crash. Just for fun, would a real plane have something like an S key built into it? What would a real pilot need such a "Don't touch that under any circumstances" kind of a button for? I'll try a track later if I still can't get through the mission. I've been making some progress that just comes with practice and I want to try the ideas here first before people spend too much time on something I can get to myself with a little more work. I wanted to make sure I wasn't do anything obviously wrong and so far it looks like I passed that.
  3. Quick Question The Su-27 seems far more unstable in the mission: "CCIP Mode Unguided Bombs". You're supposed to fly through the gates, but it feels like everything I try to do the game completely does the other thing. I usually can't get through the first gate for how much the plane bounces and rolls around and trying to fly it level is impossible. II barely try and correct a turn and I roll all the way around; it pitches and rolls like I don't even have my hand on the joystick. Furthermore, I can't speed up in the beginning of the mission. Ihe mission starts you off about 450 but its never been hard to speed up from that speed in other missions. I get warnings that I'm going too slow, but no matter how many times I try and speed up, the nose just pitches down; I drop in altitude, and I keep decelerating. It takes forever to speed up again. I've tried thrust up and thrust-step-up but nothing seems to work to increase the speed. Why won't the plane speed up? Then I circle around and use the autopilot to fly at the maintained altitude and have tried all different modes of autopilot and I get some success with that, right up until I get to the gate where it feels like a force field takes over. The plane is so wild there's no hope of flying it straight. A tiny touch of the joystick makes the plane roll halfway around or pitch like I'm heading for the sky or the ground, where maybe I'm just trying a small correction, which causes the speed to suddenly increase or decrease out of control. Is there is something I've missed here in this particular mission? The gates seem to be at a higher altitude then what I've seen yet (5500 m) so maybe the altitude has something to do with it. This plane has been fine in the other missions. I don't know why it acts so different and uncontrollably in this mission.
  4. Got it, that was the trick! It works. Okay, I'll try one of the non-training missions now and see how it goes.
  5. "Lock with EOS and switch to guns, and you will get a CCIP pipper with a range tape around it. " I couldn't find these terms: EOS and CCIP. Could be that I'm only in the training missions but that in a real mission (which I haven't tried, yet) they would be more evident. I didn't see them in the controls or encyclopedia.
  6. I just worked through the training mission: Su-27: “Missiles.miz”. At the end of the training exercise, just after I get “Launch Authorization”, LA, none of the missiles fired. Is this supposed to happen? Am I supposed to do something after LA to fire the missiles? Okay if this is how the simulation is supposed to work; I just want to make sure I’m not doing anything wrong. I tried clicking the joystick trigger, joystick weapons release, and space bar, also cycling through the combinations of the “Change Weapon” on the joystick. I went through the sequence several times, so I’m sure I didn’t make a mistake there. Some games have "Missile Release"; is that true for this plane in this module or something like it?
  7. Okay, I am going to try those other modes. I found those training exercises you all mentioned here (I didn't know where to look before I posted this so your all replies are very helpful and didn't even know there were so many radar modes and other possibilities for weapons targeting) and will work on them later. Just out of curiosity, I found the funnel gun mode incredibly difficult. The funnel jumps all over the screen and it looks like you have to get within 0.5 nm to even have a chance against that F-15C. Its pretty easy for the F-15C to evade you with a minimal turn or speed-up/slow-down. I read on wiki that the gun of the Su-27 isn't usually reliable except at close range in real life. More than that, its really hard for my hand to hold the joystick still enough for the aircraft to be steady long enough for the funnel to line up properly. Did anyone else experience the gun funnel mode on this plane as hard? Okay if it is, I just want to see if that's the way the simulation is supposed to run (quite plausible based on wiki), something I missed (possibly an over-sensitive joystick), or maybe its just lack of experience and I need more practice. I did get a lot of practice out of trailing a target though, which I think is useful for a beginner like me.
  8. There's no circle and cross; its a funnel you adjust to match the wingspan of your targer. I'm working out of the mission: Su-27 Training Aerial Gunnery.miz in the missions folder.
  9. Go ahead and delete this thread. I accidently put it in the wrong section.
  10. “When activating FC3 or just the f15 what you need to do is launch dcsworld and then either select a campaign or instant mission for an FC3 aircraft or the f15c for just the f15c module. Once you hit launch it should bring up the promp to type in your serial number[KEY]” Ok, that worked. I got to the mission “Clean Sweep”. Pushed a few buttons and this is working. It didn’t ask for a serial number, though, it just went right to it. “place one of the FC3 planes in a mission, set as flyable and launch it. A prompt will come up asking for your CD key. Enter your CD key and the game will launch.” I did this also for the A-10. Looks likes its working. I could place various planes in the mission that come with FC 3 and then launch the mission. It didn’t ask for a CD key here, but it works, started right up. “Links for $5”. I went ahead and bought them. I’ll play them over several weeks and see how it goes. It looks like what I need to help me get started. Great! Looks like I’m good for now on this. Thanks for everyone for the help!
  11. Hi all, I originally posted this in the wrong category. I couldn't find an easy way to move this thread for there to here, so I just repost my question here. What is the maximum range the cannon on the Su 27 can fire accurately from? I'm working through the Su-27 Training Aerial Gunnery. How close do people wait for the target to come within before they fire the cannon; just looking for a good ballpark distance?

  13. Hi all, "The only free planes are the Su-25T and TF-51D." That doesn't make sense. On the module manager there is a list of many more "free planes." It says so on "Modules" where by certain planes, to the right of the plane's description it says "Owners of FC3 do not need to purchase." I attached a screenshot of what it says so you can see what I am referencing. That is in attached image 1874 and 1873. 1873 is the general view of the module and 1874 has the close up view of what I mentioned here. "Did you actually purchase FC3?" Yes. The bank shows I did and I have a serial number for the entire game. On the "Installed" section of "Modules", where there is a row for Flaming Cliffs 3, there is a slot that says "Serial Number." I attached a general picture of this in Image 1875. When I click on "Serial Number", (Image 1876) my serial number appears. However, for the row "F-15C" you can see the "Belsimtek" I was talking about (also Image 1876). That row, too, wants a serial number, but when I click on the serial number for F-15C, none appears. It seems that if the F-15C came with the game, it should have the same serial number as the Flaming Cliffs 3 Serial Number. If the serial number for F-15C is different than for the entire game, and the F-15C is free, where do I get this serial number? One question I have is that, if the F-15C really is on my flaming cliffs 3, where should it appear and what should I see in what menu? I’m having trouble knowing if I have done things correctly as far as installing this plane and all that goes with it. I was going to ask if the F-15C has as many missions as the Su-27, but JINX 1391 answered this. What is the website to download the training missions? I don’t mind paying a few dollars for them. As for JINX 1391, 3 and 4, yes, I see as much. I am already questions as much as I can already. Thanks for the tips about the two missions on F-15C. I will try the easy one when I am sure I have installed the F-15C correctly. I did found a whole bunch of missions for the SU-27 and I have been using those for now, just to get a feel for one of the planes.
  14. Hi all, How do I activate the F-15C? I know its pretty basic but this is my first time with the Lock on series. When FC3 comes up, there is a list of planes on the bottom of the screen but every time I click on one, it says I have to buy them. I don't see any of the "free" planes on the bottom of this screen. How do I get them to show up on the bottom of the screen? Or do I need that? I went to the module manager. There is a list of planes here. By some of them it says: "Owners of FC3 do not need to purchase." I clicked on "Buy" for the F-15C but I don't think I bought anything. The game redirected me to a website and I clicked on "Beta" and I downloaded the F-15C. Now, it shows up in "Installed" on the Modules Manager. It also says, in the same row: "Belsimtek" and there is a space for a serial number but I don't know what to do about that. Also, are there missions for the F-15C? I didn't see any on the "Mission" Tab. A couple of training ones for a beginner would be nice, if they exist. Sorry for such basic questions. I know there's a basic system to all this, but I think when I get the F-15C down (the first plane) I will know how to do this part for all the rest of the planes.
  15. Awesome! That's a lot of good information. I realize one control does not fit all. I would probably being flying new aircraft but am also interested in the other controls people talk about I didn't know were there. This really helps me out a lot and I appreciate everyone's input.
  16. Hi all, I was thinking of buying rudder pedals to compliment the Logitech extreme 3D pro that I bought. A couple of questions before I buy any of them because they are expensive ($150-200). Does anyone use rudder pedals with DCS Lock on 3? Do they work great or are they just a terrible gimmick? The only kind I saw were made by Saitek; it appears Logitech does not make flight simulator gaming pedals. Will the joystick and pedals function properly even though they are made by two different companies? Let me know,
  17. This question is not just about the rudder but probably in general for many of the controls. Rudder on Su-25 in the training mission is Z and X to Yaw left or right. If I want to Yaw left, and I push Z and then release the Z button: 1) does the rudder stay in position to keep yawing the plane left even though I no longer hold down the Z? 2) Or do I have to hold down Z to keep the plane yawing left? 3) Or, after I push and release Z, is there a time the rudder yaws the plane left and then goes back to being "Off". I couldn't see any noticeable effect yet from the rudder control on the plane, but I'll keep working on it. I'm still doing the training mission.
  18. @pepin: Ok, so I will definitely keep that in mind; that there are limits for which the autopilot will work. Also, I definitely understand the uncontrollable banking movements--that was the most prominent thing I noticed. "activate emergency level mode (Alt-3)". Why is it called an emergency level? I thought the Alt buttons were automatic pilots. Is Auto Pilot for emergencies? I thought it was about helping to move the plane so that the pilot doesn't have to keep all the micro-corrections. I experimented with Alt-9, wasn't sure how much it worked, but I'm going to keep practicing to see. it probably did, but I'm just too green. Also, I'm learning a bit about basic flying as well. "you need to trim manually your plane to neutral behavior". Does the game or the website have somewhere where I can read about this better? That would probably help. Thanks for your help, I'm keeping up with the flying
  19. Quick Question: There is a series of commands I experimented with:, namely ALT-#. So, the one I use the most is ALT-3, level flying. When it does work, it really does level out the plane, but sometimes it gets me stuck in a roll and the plane isn't easy to control. How do I turn off the ALT-#'s after I employ them? For example, if I want to fly level for a time, I press ALT-2, but what do I push to regain full control of the plane? Is there some situation where the plane automatically quits the ALT-# command I previously gave it?
  20. Hi all, I went ahead and downloaded the Flaming Cliffs 3 and am on the very first exercise: the training through the gates of navigation by the Su-25. When I first call this up, there is a series of slides where the narrator explains some basic navigation and you press the spacebar when he is finished to continue onto the next slide. But I can't go onto the next slide until the narrator completely finishes reading each and every slide. Pressing the space bar when the slide appears didn't fast-forward through the slides. Is there a way to fast-forward past all the slides so I don't have to hear them all over again every time I try to do redo the training? I'd like to go straight to the practice runs through the green gates, one repetition after another. Also, when my plane crashes, the game continues on, but I don't know what I am suppose to do after that. I have seen a helicopter fly around, and also a fuel truck, but there is nothing I can do to control either of these. Is there a menu that is supposed to appear that I don't know about? What is supposed to happen and what should I be doing in this part of the game? I would like to restart the training exercise, but my only option seems to be to push ESC, then QUIT, but that completely turns off the whole game. Is there something I could push to go back to starting a run through the gates in the training exercise again without completely turning off the game and reloading it again? All help is appreciated
  21. Hi all, I'm new to this game and that's why I'm having so many questions about getting things to work. The game is Lock on, Flaming Cliffs 2. The joystick is Logitech, extreme 3D pro. When I go to the "Missions", I open the first one for the A-10A.miz. It appears to be the same in the "Quickstart". However, none of the weapons fire, either on the joystick or the keyboard. Both the joystick buttons and the weapons keyboard buttons do nothing when pressed. In the controls in the game for the A-10, the options says that the weapons buttons were matched to the correct buttons on the joystick, but during the actual mission it was like all the weapons were disabled. I didn't see anyway, once the mission started, to change the options on the controls. I assume that remapping controls to joystick buttons would have to be done before beginning a mission, but not during it. of course, I'm not really sure about this. I thought I could fire the weapons earlier but am dumbfounded over what I could have done to get rid of all the weapons. Does anyone know what is wrong? Your help is much appreciated.
  22. Yup, that was the trick! All better. I flew around a couple of planes just to make sure. Working great!
  23. Hello, I am a new user and just bought lockon flaming cliffs 2. In the quickstart, it seems that no matter which plane I fly, I can never speed up. The throttle doesn't seem to work. The joystick I use is a Logitech extreme 3D pro. My plane always bleeds off airspeed and crashes into a fireball after awhile. When I look on the options menu, under controls, "Thrust" is mapped to "JOY Z". On the Logitech joystick profiler, there is no "JOY Z" perse, but its says that "Throttle" is match to "Throttle." Any suggestions? (Also, the software is just fine; i.e, its not a software crash, its a real fighter plane crash in the game)
