I'd prefer the legacy upgrade for now. But I'm sure there's room for both.

    Ditto. 👍

"While the USMC outlined in its 2022 Aviation Plan that it will sundown the Hornet fleet by 2030, the last major planned upgrade for its fleet is SCS-31C – 2024. This upgrade plan includes AESA radar integration, improved navigation, electronic warfare enhancements, and new networked-enabled and extended-range weaponry. Aside from JASSM, the weaponry integration includes upgraded variants of the Harpoon anti-ship missile and AGM-154 Joint Standoff Weapon C-1. What I think is best about DCS is that it's constantly improving. Nothing is set in stone, and the devs acknowledge that many parts of the sim could be done better, it's just a matter of when they get to actually redoing it. It's not just DCS code that is being updated, but also its design, which is rare. Too many devs have a history of not acknowledging complaints about their bad design, even if the entire community is shouting at them about it.

    100% agree! 👍

What we need is a comms menu that is easily bound to voice commands without fiddling with VAICOM,

This would be the ultimate, for sure. 👍 For my regular VR users: do you not find HB's giant Comm's wheel popping up in front of your face mildly immersion breaking? I've done VR, and it was for me.

  4. Can't really read the altitude on that HAFU, but it looks to me (as stated above) that the bandit is in double-digit altitudes while your radar is only looking up to 4k. Radar Elev, up, and your there. As to being directly behind the bandit, if there's negative closure, you likely will need Medium-only PRF to lock him up...your in Interleave in your screenshot.

  5. Dear Devs,

After a certain new trailer was recently released, it just occurred to me: I LOVE the simple, out-of-the-way, low-key comms menu we have in DCS. Please keep it that way and don't ever change! 😉 Just say "no" to the giant, flashy, "center-stage" comms menus.

  6. My friends. It just must be said, so I'll say it: DCS has never looked more beautiful and run so well on my modest (by DCS standards) system! Well done to the whole team! With so many modules and features, both current and upcoming, it's easy to miss the incredible progress they've made over the past several years. Seriously, I was flying around the Iraq map on a mission at sunset the other day... Absolutely stunning! Thanks for all the work, team! You are the golden age of military flight sim, PERIOD. 👍

  7. Many days have passed in this thread, but here's some video of "our" DCS Hornet in motion with the 404 Tail flash (BUNO 165407) -

Am I the only one who believes that the entire earth is a supremely bad idea?

No, I'm with you as well. In a realistic combat sim, I'm interested in realistic (historical or future-likely) scenarios. But most importantly for me is this: The map structures need to be susceptible to damage and alteration.  MSFSim looks pretty from above, but for a combat sim, the environment is unalterable. I have near-zero interest in a whole-earth-DCS-map.

Since QAG is 💩 for me I use https://dcs-briefingroom.azurewebsites.net/QuickBuilder
    Few clicks and voila.

This third party mod is really cool, but it still isn't as slick, simple, or well integrated into DCS as the CFM generator was. My suggestion to folks who'd like to get ED to reconsider bringing back their "not planned" Create Fast Mission Generator, would be to let your voice be heard here in this thread. Again, this is not about getting rid of the new QAG, necessarily.

I don't like the instant action generator. Seriously, it gives me nothing of the functionality I used to love. I could create a new mission, go to advanced, choose time of day, season, levels of enemy activity, but most importantly, I can pick and airfield, a plane, say I want to start on the ramp. I can set up my own training missions. I can set up a no-enemy free-fly.

The full mission editor is woefully annoying to use, horrific to actually use and clunky AF to even try placing a player aircraft at a field you want to spawn at. Having the easy mission creator screen was a god-send that really made learning new modules so much better for me. Learning new, or just enjoying old ones. Fine-tuning control mapping changes and ergonomic changes I make to see what's better for flying, I enjoyed the old editor way better.

Is it still available? I don't think I saw it. I'm not saying get rid of the instant action generator, just don't remove a very appreciated tool and replace it with one that gives me none of the things I need.

    It's not, unfortunately.

Proton was winged in August 1993, see part 1 of his interview. He had yet to go through F/A-18 flight training.  And the F-16N was gone from topgun by mid/late 1994 (wing crack issues).  So he never flew the N.  The N was a small mouth block 30 powered by the GE F110 engine.  What he did fly some years later at topgun was the F-16A block 15 ocu, which was powered by the Pratt & Whitney F100-220.  Those jets were destined for the Pakistan AF, but never delivered.  In 2002 the US Navy acquired them for disimilar use at topgun.

    Nice. 👍

    Hi folks,

I am currently creating a F/A-18C Training Sylabus for me and my squadron. In this i was trying to find a way to train malfunctions and emergencies.

I was trying to Set the malfunction UBAT FAIL, but nothing happens.

According to my sources the DC Essential Bus shut then fail and/or there should be a caption.

    • FCCA 1 and 2 should be Xed out
    • Fire extingusher Light should go on
    • L and R Oil OR Caution
    • Comms should be off

Afraid to say that we have very little at present in the Hornet along the lines of realistic system failures. I'm sure they'll come eventually, but it's pretty far behind modules like Heatblur's Tomcat in this regard. In seven years of flying the DCS Hornet (with well over 1000 hours in it), I've still yet to hear Betty say "bleed air," "Engine Fire," "APU Fire," or any other of the like, beyond the standard test procedure. Nor have I ever seen a fire light. I'm sure we'll get there, though. I'd LOVE to see Heatblur-Levels of systems simulation and failures in the Hornet. We'll keep being patient.👍

  13. Here's my QAG feedback:

Here's what's needed from the new Quick Action Generator in order to replace DCS capability that has recently been lost:

The ability to, in approximately 60 to 90 seconds, with essentially one click (because it saved your previous settings like "Blue Air Units - MAX") create a battle field that has 200+ units that are not where I knowingly placed them.

The option in DCS to create a fast, high unit count mission that is RANDOM in placement and nature.

With the QAG,  after one or two clicks, we should be able to create a small world populated mission for a given unit (say, the A-10 or F-16) a mission of 200+ units.

These changes would bridge the gap quite nicely between the ME and what the QAG currently, clearly, isn't.

    Please. 👍

  14. "[For BFM], I would want to be in an F-18"

Some more Hornet (BFM performance) praise from "Proton" of TOP GUN and PBS' "Carrier" fame. He flew Hornets in the USN and the mighty F-16N BFM machine as a Top Gun instructor. He's asked which jet he'd rather be in for a BFM set, Viper or Hornet? And he's not biased at all... 🙂

The issue for me with CFM was that it just used the same enemy aircraft all the time so I had to go in and edit everything. QAG is great for simple dogfights but not much else. Anything more than 2 groups of units and it seems to grind to a halt when generating the mission. I am hoping this will improve.

If CFM would allow the flexibility of choosing aircraft etc then this would be great.

Agreed on all points! 👍 I'd SO MUCH rather have the old CFM generator with a more randomized/diverse set of units than the new QAG. Simple dogfights are just as quick to set up in the ME as the QAG.

    Both options would make sense.

Fair enough. I'm not sure there was an appreciation by the devs for how the CFM generator bridged the ME and something like they what the want the QAG to be. Regarding your desire for working WWII mission generation, would you have liked/enjoyed using the CFM generator in the way I mentioned in a previous post (pasted below), if it had supported WWII ops and units? Again, the QAG isn't even in the same league as the old CFM generator regarding the quick functionality I've outlined below. But if I were a big WWII user, I'd certainly want it to support WWII generation.👍

What's been lost with the introduction of the new QAG is this: The ability to, in approximately 60 to 90 seconds, with essentially one click (because it saved your previous settings like "Blue Air Units - MAX") create a battle field that had 200+ units that were not where I knowingly placed them... and that is key.

We now no longer have an option in DCS to create a fast, high unit count mission that is RANDOM in nature. This is a huge single-player feature loss for me... I'm assuming it is missed by others, too. I also constantly used the CFM generator to create a base mission for, say, the A-10. After one or two clicks, I now had a mission of 270+ units and an a-10 group poised for CAS. Then, in the ME... I just dropped in a Hornet and made it "PLAYER." VOILÀ! I had a single player Hornet mission that was close to random in nature... and a populated world in order to enter into.

I initially liked the QAG., now I absolutely hate it. It's utter garbage. Thank god it relatively easy to populate the map with the ME, but I wany the old Fast Mission functionality back. They replaced a Canon DLS with a Box Brownie.

Don't think we'll get it back unless enough people complain and offer constructive ideas for going forward... mine is: Keep QAG if you like, but bring back the CFM generator for those that found it useful per my previous post above...
