I was thinking about that, but OTOH I'm pretty sure that the RL Dora used trim tabs to do that, didn't it? The red thingies sticking out of the aileron and rudder which were preset on the gound and couldn't be adjusted from the cockpit. So is this some sort of "crutch" DCS uses to simulate those tabs? I do think you're right, however, since I checked rudder behavior with the Su-25T and there my pedals/rudder input according to CTRL-ENTER-screen were centered all the time. I did double-check my "auto-rudder" and "take off help"-settings and they were indeed at 0/off. "Take off help" ... lol.. more like "let me help you crash upon takeoff" in this sim .. ;) S.

I just flew with that "stick-deflection"-screen open (CTRL + ENTER) and I was surprised to see that my rudder was constantly off to the right of the center-position. Now my pedals do have a bit of a spiking issue, but I'm using a pretty wide deadzone on the center and everything looks centered in the "tune axis"-dialogue. And the rudder input wasn't spiking or anything - just constantly offset to the right. Weird. S.

TrackIR cannot calibrate in game

Probably unrelated (or maybe not?) but this happens to me too any time I change my CH Pro Throttle's profile in the CH Control Manager with TrackIR SW open. Even though I'm using a "trapped" button on my throttle to center TrackIR, I have to first close TrackIR-SW, then make changes to my Throttle's profile/load a different profile, then restart TrackIR. S. -
Yup. I have an Asus 27''/1080 monitor and that combo is pushing it WRT pixel-density (or lack thereof) :D. S.

Runs great on my PC @1080 with pretty much everything set to "on" and "high". Asus Z87 Plus MoBo, i5 4670k, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, Geforce GTX 660. I should probably re-install DCS to get the game onto my SSD, but load-times after loading the first mission are pretty decent even off my HDD. First one always takes a bit longer to load though. A 6DOF head-tracker like TrackIR5 with ProClip is a must IMO. The virtual cockpits are gorgeous and it's so much easier to use your own head to glance down at a certain gauge or shift your POV around to get a look at instruments that are blocked in normal view (like the "neutral-trim" indicators in the Su-25T, which are hidden behind the stick or the cowl-flaps "wheel" on the Dora 9). And despite the fully clickable cockpits, I'd still recommend a stick/throttle combo with *lots* of buttons and sliders: DCS is the first game where I actually have to use the "mode"-switch on my CH Pro Throttle so that I can put more than one function on certain hats/switches. It's a decent workaround, but it's not an ideal solution. Ideally you should have a throttle and stick where you can map all the important stuff to a dedicated button or axis (to minimize "confusion" :D ). S.

Technically I could. Both my GFX-card and TV have HDMI. :) But since the PC and TV are in two different rooms and there's no way for me to set up my HOTAS in the living-room .... Plus: Even though my TV has a "gaming mode", I'm not sure it would be that great to play on. For starters: Reaction time is much slower than on either of my two monitors. S.

From what I've read so far on the 1060, that card seems to be a pretty sweet deal at the moment. It's nearly in the top 10 in Passmark's GFX-card ranking and I can find some 1060-cards for around €280. All the reviews I could find so far are very positive too and even power consumption and heat generation seem to be pretty good for a card of its capabilities. If I would build a new rig right now, I'm pretty sure I'd go for a 1060 card. Really? Hmm.. buddies of mine work in GFX-design/illustration and they upgraded their Macs to one of those large (and insanely expensive) Apple 4k monitors. The difference to 1080 is *quite* noticeable. Perhaps not as big a difference as between, say, 1024x768 and 1080, but it's definitely a marked improvement. Sure: You need a large enough screen to really get the most out of 4k, so I would agree on the monitor-pricing issue. The Apple-monitor I mentioned was something like €1500 - €2000 (silly Apple, lol). Still too expensive for my taste, but so were larger 1080-panels just a few years ago. OTOH, a monitor is probably the one PC-component that you will use the longest. I still have my old Syncmaster 23'' in use as a second screen and that thing is now at least 6 years old. When you compare a large enough 4k TV with a 1080 TV of similar size side by side, you'll see what all the fuss is about with 4k-tech. And while I'm not sure I'd need a 4k TV in my living room anytime soon to replace my 1080-one, I would definitely go for a 4k-monitor for my PC as soon as the larger panels become more affordable. Especially for flight-sims, the resolution can't be high enough and the screen can't be large enough, IMO. When I watch some of the in-game videos I shoot in the sims I fly on my 46'' TV, I wish I had a monitor this large for gaming - even though my TV is just 1080. S.

Well.. perhaps DCS will be the sim that finally delivers a modern looking BoB-scenario with a true dynamic campaign. Being able to both fly missions and to plan them or - better still - be able to make strategic decisions. Like avoiding the switch away from bombing RAF airfields and towards senselessly bombing London .. :D In any case: It would be enough for me to be able to fly these early birds with DCS' level of fidelity/sophistication. Plus a jet-heavy sim like this can *always* use more prop-planes.. :) EDIT: Can't leave this thread without mentioning some of my favorites from the other end of the time-line ... :) S.

This isn't exclusive to the G940. I'm using a combination of 1. CH Pro Throttle 2. MS SW FF2 3. CH Pro Pedals (gameport) ..and my throttle's buttons sometimes fail to get read by the game, too. Sometimes it's just in the keymapper where it'll take lots of pushes until the mapper "sees" the button. Sometimes it also happens in-game when certain functions won't work (while others do). Just last night I tried to do the "counter-measures" training in the Su-25, only to find that both my chaff and flare functions weren't working (I have them mapped to 0° and 180° on the same hat-switch). ECM, mapped to the same hat's 90° position, also didn't work, while "Center TrackIR" on the hat's 270° position still worked fine. I tried to narrow this behavior down and found that (weirdly enough) the buttons in question also didn't work in the CH Control Manager "test/calibrate"-screen. They worked fine in the actual mapping-part of the CH software (meaning pushing the button would correctly display the mapping dialogue for that button). Only way to solve this so far was to re-load the CH profile into the throttle and/or restart the game. Had to quit DCS, quit TrackIR, then reload my CH profile, restart TrackIR then restart DCS. I also noticed that I will sometimes lose Force Feedback while in-game. One mission it works fine and on the next my stick will go completely "limp". I tried to fix this by changing the FF-value in the keymapper (like from 98 to 99 ) - that worked before to activate FF, but not this time. Usually I have to re-plug the stick to get FF back in this situation. I don't see what could be causing this. I'm using the throttle's buttons as buttons - not to send out keyboard-commands. The only function that does send out keys is the ministick, which I use to control the Su-25's optical sensor. For some reason, the axis-function for this thing can't be mapped to the stick (blacked out in the key-mapper). I guess since it's labeled "mouse axis", the game will only let me map my mouse to it ...? *shrug* Note: I'm using this setup and CH profiles in a number of other sims, too. And I never had that kind of behavior in any of them. It's just in DCS that the throttle will start to act up on occasion. S.

They could probably use some cleaning or new parts, yeah.. :) I've got it to work somehow.. 1. I've set the axis to "slider" 2. I've inverted the axis 3. I've made user-curves with only the first five sliders set to any input .. the rest are on "0". Leftmost slider is set to "100" and the next four to increasingly smaller values. 4. I set a small deadzone to deal with the spikes. Currently it's on "7". The pedals are calibrated correctly in Windows, BTW and they work in other games just fine (with a bit of tweaking :D). The left one has had a bit of spiking for years, but nothing too serious. Thanks for the help! I might break out my Saitek "Pro Flight" pedals again just for this game, although I prefer the CH's layout - I'm not a huge fan of having to constantly "man-spread" on the wider Saiteks.. ;) plus even with the detent removed, they still feel a bit weird around the center and make smaller corrections harder than the CH-ones. But first I have to try and learn to get to gripes with DCS's handling of FF. I love the Sidewinder's "centering spring"-action you get in games that don't support FF. In FF-games you either have that floppy, no centering-spring feel when you turn it off, or only get spring tension once you have sufficient airflow over the control surfaces. Very hard to get used to having to handle a stick that feels like a CH Fighterstick on the ground (read: with no centering spring whatsoever). S. -
Good day, everyone! Just returned to DCS after four years or so (played A-10C a while ago), so my knowledge of the sim and the controller-options is a bit, err, rusty.. :) Anyway.. here's my problem: Bought the Dora yesterday and instantly ran into problems in the controller-mappings. My pedals' toe-brakes aren't recognized properly, so I'm taxiing with a tiny bit of brakes applied the whole time - not good. I know this is what's happening by simply looking at the in-cockpit rudderpedals and by the plane's behavior on the ground: 1500 RPM (as stated by the tutorial) isn't nearly enough to make the plane start to move/roll. I'm using a pieced together HOTAS-setup: MS Sidewinder FF2 CH Pro Throttle USB ancient CH Pro Pedals (gameport-version running through a GP-to-USB- converter) TrackIR 5/ProClip Now before people will start bashing the gameport-pedals: They do work in other simulations because the keymappers of those sims will let me assign half-axis - or simply because they automatically recognize the range of travel of the brakes as the full axis? Not sure. The thing is that the brakes register (in Windows) as the negative/left half of the X-axis (left brake) and upper/positive half of the Y-axis (right brake). I've tried fiddling with the "tuning"-options in the axis-mapper, but so far it's no good. I've tried deadzones from 0 to 50, I've tried user curves with the lower half all set to "0", but I'm still getting spikes for some reason (spiking in Windows Joystick info-box is there, but minimal) plus the game seems to assume that my brakes are constantly sending input. Here's what the mapper looks like for me: Not sure how it's supposed to work, but I suspect that the input indicator resting in the middle of the response curve with my feet off the pedals might be the culprit. Shouldn't it be in the lower left corner with the (physical) toe-brakes *not* engaged? I'm pretty sure that if I could get the game to recognize half an axis as the *full* range of travel on the brakes, I could get them to work. Is there any way to do this? Note: Since they're not USB-Pedals, I can't use the CH Control Manager to fiddle around with them. As you can see in the video, the pedals are recognized both by Windows and by the game as a generic joystick. Because that's how the USB-converter identifies itself. Thanks for your input!
