Any news on the Saitek Rudder Pedals?
JaseGill replied to Avatar72's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi guys, I bit the bullet and bought the ones available now a few weeks ago after I realised I couldnt be bothered waiting for the Combat one. My impressions are: 1. Well built, 2. Good spread between pedals, though prefered my TM Elites as they were wider, 3. Spikey pots and strangely not very good at centering. I needed a good 7 - 10% deadzone on the rudders themselves and to reverse the brake pedals in A10C (cant say that was a problem but it did flumox me for a while). I'd buy them again, though if the Combat Pedals are less spikey (are they Hall Effect ?) Id be temped to wait. That said, I cant fly without pedals even in fast movers, it just doesnt feel right and in the A10C I'd say they are a neccesity if only for NWS and crosswind landings. I fly for real too, have fixed and rotary wing stick and rudder time, and it just doesnt feel right without something to rest my feet on. That could just be a real life pilot habit thing though. J. -
Amazed by 1st week with TM Warthog
JaseGill replied to JaseGill's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Lawdart, I did 12 years and had some good times, good tours and made some good friends (buried a few of them too unfortunately). You're right, it seems there are some very talented people on here and in the Sim world. in don't know any other places with such dedicated people online. The talent of the modders, the developers and the whole community is really something to be admired. J. -
Guys and girls (well I'm guessing a few lady simmers are here), I have to say I'm amazed by my 1st week with the Thrustmaster Warthog. I previously had a Cougar for a long time (from day one of its release) until a few months ago when I bought a G940 hoping that FF was what I needed to get properly into Black Shark. Then I saw the WH pre-release hype and figured that was what it was, hype, as I cant say my Cougar particularly inspired my sim flying. the Warthog is another beast altogether. I'm usually one for fixed wing and loved FC and FC2 but I just could've fly the aircraft properly (and I'm a qualified PPL and have stick time from my RAF days in Gazelle, Puma, Sea King, Merlin, Tornado, Tucano, Hawk and Tiger Moth - I was lucky and spent my last few years in the RAF at Boscombe Down and got to fly all sorts with some of the best instructors I could ever imagine, you gotta love test pilots!). So to say I wasn't hoping for much is overstating it a bit. Well Im here to say I was wrong, its amazing. Before now I couldn't get into a stable hover in the Black Shark and actual types I have flown when flown in MS Flight Simulator X were just pigs. Now, I fly the Black Shark like I was taught to fly helicopters hardly even touching the stick, just lightly guiding it. Fixed wind I can fly circuits like I do in Real Life and half the time better. I'd even say the time in MSFSX has made me a better Real Life PPL. I had dumped Black Shark as un-flyable (even with FF) and had almost given up on most of my simming. Now, I'm back with a vengeance. All that is missing is seat of the pants stuff, which I don't ever expect to get without a full commercial motion controlled simulation rig that's way out of my price range. So, thank you Thrustmaster for re-igniting my flying of Sims (please fix the TARGET software pronto so that I can start on some Black Shark configs) and I just cant wait for the final release of A10C to get my hands on an old favourite from FC2. The Beta 2 is great, I just wish it had the graphics optimisation that Black Shark has which is giving me a steady 50-60 FPS. J.

"Twitchy" Saitek Pro Flight Rudders
JaseGill replied to JaseGill's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks, have you tried any other pots or know of any modders who have. These are brand new and I was hoping for better. I may well have to stump up for the Combat Pro's or see if TM are going to do anything to go with the Hog maybe... J. -
Hi, I'm also going the same way with PVC Pipe. Can I ask what spec pipe you're using? Is it the usual 40mm Waste Pipe stuff? What is it like supporting the Warthog? Mine seems very heavy for the PVC pipe to support it? I bought the Rodger Dodger plans and they are very good, but Im wondering if they are tough enough for a Warthog setup? Thanks, J.

any one got the new thrustmaster A10. HOTAS
JaseGill replied to con3para's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Flim, Loving the simplicity of that Pit. Any build log at all? Looks like just what I (and the fun monitor) want :) Cheers, J. -
Hi guys, I finally took the plunge and bought some Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals to go with my TM Warthog. Plugged them in last night and had a fool about to see how well they work. I'm pretty happy apart from one slight problem. They seem to twitch around especially at the limits of the pedal movement (75% plus at a guess). This is as seen in the A10C Axis Tuner. I've added some Dead-zone to the centre position as they were too sensitive for me but I'm sure over time I'll get use to them (my last set were TM Elites so I guess its down to learning the kit). I also had to invert the axis on both brake pedals as they defaulted to full on, not full off when at the off position. Again no major snags but a surprise all the same. Has anyone else seen this behaviour from these pedals? Thanks, J.

Cant agree more with all of the comments above. Such good feel (I used to fly in the RAF and this feels REAL), great buttons/hats etc, amazing in A10C, yet to try in FC2 or BS. No detectable dead-zone and just gives one a big grin using it. All I have to do now is wait (not so patiently) for my pedals... J.

Sorry, Whoever asked I'm sorry I forgot to say mine came Amazon Expedited. Delivered By Parcel Force. I have had HDNL before and they were awful... Sorry. As an aside Amazon has always delivered well for me. Though I did recently have a trial of Amazon Prime and that was amazing. Well unless you count waiting 3 weeks for them to get some Kindle 3's in ;) In that case America was getting them all WAY before the UK and in some cases ordering weeks later and getting them the next day, when Europeans had been waiting 3 - 4 weeks minimum. So in the Hog's case I'm glad were 1st for a change. You guys should try waiting a month for a cinematic release whilst the rest of the world watch it ;) Which admittedly has changed though only in the last year or so ;) J

Coolts, Nah I wish I was building a pit. Just upgrading some elements of my PC so that DCS and A10C can be played as smooth as possible. I just want a seat now that I can mount my Hog on. Something that wont p*ss off the Chief of Domestic Staff. Thats the real challenge ;) J.

Hurrah. Mine has turned up via Amazon too. Its next to my desk in its shiny box and its getting looks and some questions too. Someone wants me to unpack it here, I told them no way. Not bad given that it arrived at 12 (had to wait for new GTX460 and a hard drive to come to home before coming in so I was working from home) and I got in the office at 2. I'l be out of here by 5 :) J.

Its on the road, with City Link, or as my stores guy calls it Shit*y Stink ;) So glad I paid Expedited :) Should arrive at work tomorrow, and I'm not in till Midday (awaiting a new graphics card and 1TB drive too) as I'm working at home. Going to be a cracking weekend. Now all I have to do is get TARGET working, though thankfully not to have A10C on the go :) I have to find some rudders now, I don't have any and I'm seriously tempted to get the Saitek Pro Pedals as I cant be bothered so far to wait for the Combat Pedals and the CH ones are too close together for 6ft3 of stupid to put up with ;) J.

Customizable Touchscreen Keyboard
JaseGill replied to ZQuickSilverZ's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It already exists, and is just like a large Nintendo DS. Its called the Toshiba Libretto W100. Google it, it looks cool but I hear isnt all that fantastic. Effectively its a book layout laptop and where the Keyboard usually is there is a touch-screen. Could make a good networked Touchbuddy almost in the same way you envisage it. Not cheap though... J. -
Thanks Ed I was about to go to Win 7 32 from Win 7 64. I'll try this when I get home. Warthog should arrive tomorrow so very excited ;) J.

All, My Amazon UK has just updated to Dispatching Soon. So, it looks like the expected delivery date (expedited) of tomorrow may well be satisfied. Hopefully anyone else who has ordered from Amazon UK should be getting the good news soon too. Rgds, Jase.

Best Rudder Pedals Available?
JaseGill replied to JaseGill's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks guys. very much appreciated. It seems CH are popular and the Saitek Combat's may be worth waiting for. Simpeds I've seen but they are just way expensive given the fact that I have just paid for a Warthog so may have to give those a miss. Same for FlightLinks though they do look amazing. J -
All, I know that most rudders will be compatible with the new Warthog. I have my G940 on sale on eBay in preparation for the hopeful arrival of the Warthog from Amazon UK on Friday. I just cant get on with it so its got to go (and this is after I sold my Cougar for it!). so, I'm looking for rudder pedals and looking for some advice. Has anyone tried the Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals in comparison with the CH Rudder Pedals? Also does anyone think that the Saitek Pro Flight Combat Rudder pedals will really be worth twice as much as the Saitek Pro Pedals? I know they're all metal and more adjustable but worth twice the cost? Any help much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jase.

Anyone heard from Urze lately?
JaseGill replied to JaseGill's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well thats a useful adittion to the conversation SunDog. The buyer was well aware, of the very good reputation, at the time, of the seller, and trusted his good name and feedback, here and elsewhere within the community. Its oh so easy to be a latin spouting muppet with 20/20 hindsight isnt it? One assumes that you arent out of pocket? -

Hi Urze, As I satrted this thread Im sorry it may have sounded like a complaint. Like I said Im all too happy to wait for delivery as I know its great stuff and that its not your full time job. Im just glad to hear that youre well, and in this time of global recession its also nice to hear that at least one company in Europe is doing well. Thanks for all of your effort and I look forward to seeing your work. J. -

Im not too worried, I know he runs this on the side of a "real" job. I just hope he is ok. i can wait, as from what I have heard his kit is well worth it. -
Hi all, Im trying to get hold of Urze. Has anyone heard anything from him lately? I have tried his Yahoo.de email address with no reply in a couple of weeks. I have a Cougar Joystick extension on order that was being sent on 12th Jan and wanted to check progress as Im building a very simple home cockpit (mostly bolted to a chair!). I hope he is ok. Rgds, Jase.
