Non-communicative AI wingmen ("Defend Camp Yankee", other missions)
JaseGill replied to Bahger's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
By the way, guard is 243.00 or 121.5. That's universal and every ATC unit in the world listens to one (usually 121.5) or both. The military use 243 generally. They're also the frequencies used by ground based Distress and Diversion Cells to triangulate an aircraft transmitting on that frequency. In this context 124 is Company. All interested units listen in on Company for pertinent mission critical calls except now I guess Company is actually an encoded channel and not supported in the Sim as the encoded radio isn't used. Bloody Useful. Rep inbound mate.

Thanks Warrior, much appreciated.

Warrior/Eddie, Thanks. Much appreciated. They'll both work I guess, but Eddie's will be a little less bother with multiple targets. Off to the sim to try both. I've used manual sight but I guess I need more practice. Thanks again Guys.

Hi guys, I was just wondering if anyone else is having problems with the gun on sloping terrain? Its probably something stupid that Im doing but trying to aim the gun on sloping terrain, such as at the infantry advancing on Camp Yankee in the Defend Camp Yankee Mission, my rounds go all over the place. Sometime short, sometimes long. Am I dong something stupid?

HOTAS Warthog updated drivers 2011-02-22
JaseGill replied to ACUTech's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
very good. Mine goes off too with a power down of the PC which is always good. @paulrkiii When you first run the Firmware tool it shows the current firmware, not the one youre updating to. Click each controller (Joystick and Throttle) and then run it. When the update is done you will see the new firmware version displayed on the tool. Hope that helps. -
What headset you guys use ?
JaseGill replied to Succellus's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yes Succellus it is. Difference being it will use my soundcard not its own on-board sound. I'd rather pay the same price and use soundcard than pay more and have a useless soundcard in my PC, but that's probably just me. I was looking at Senheisser wireless and there on a par with the F540. I like to keep my options open and not always use a headset. If I moved my rig to where I can plug in my real 7.1 sound system then the Headset would be defunct and I'd be short a soundcard too. This way I have both options available. Plus, again it could be just me, but I haven't had very much success with USB soundcards in the past. -

Thorvald, You must have been reading the same reviews as me then. I dont want to get away from my Creative X-Fi soundcard and replace it with a USB dongle. All I want is a wireless headset that uses that as a source. Plus, I assume that the fact that the soundcard is in the USB dongle or headset means there is some USB overhead attached to the processing of that sound? The F450 sounds just the ticket, but do you mean the F540?. Thanks for the steer, rep inbound. Not cheap, but with the Duracell LIPO powering the Track IR I thinks its a go-er come pay day. -
This isn't another one of those "Cant afford it/Wont pay for it" threads again is it? Its getting to be a very old and boring subject. <Tongue firmly in Cheek Mode On> I posed a question just like it on the Aston Martin website only a few minutes ago if it is ;) <Tongue firmly in Cheek Mode Off> Text based Flow diagram for you: Don't like it? ------ Don't buy it. | Don't think its worth it? ------ Don't buy it. | Like it? Not sure you can afford it right now ------ Save up for longer then buy it. | Don't care how much it is and still not sure? ------ Buy it, you'll be sure and think it was worth it soon enough. Its a market place, you get what you pay for in most cases and most of us are mostly happy. By the way, Im not rich so not saying this from that perspective before anyone wonders.

Guys, may be a stupid question this, but does the G930 replace your soundcard too? Does the USB dongle become the soundcard or does it just re-route the soundcard through USB wirelessly to the headset? -
Yup, I'm a Brit too.

LawnDart,I'd love to go wireless but have always had the powering TIR problem to get around. Any chance of sharing the method/specs you use for this. I'm sure loads of us would like to know and copy you :) I surely would. -

Touch screen+touch Buddy to make a A-10C CDU?
JaseGill replied to questerymj's topic in Home Cockpits
Questrymj, Many thanks, I wasn't aware of that. We learn something new every day, I hope. -
Dynamo, Gotta tell you, I spent a fair bit of time flying over water and jumping out when there's a chance of ditching is a difficult choice. You can imagine that the thought of riding an ejector seat up a rail with all the possible injuries associated, the seat chute opening right, the main chute opening right, riding a chute down (that's got a decent chance of dragging you through the water or dragging you under and drowning you) then getting into a 1 man survival dinghy (assuming you're conscious after the ejection) and then waiting for SAR to get to you plays on ones mind. That against ditching and jumping over the side (after hitting the quick release on your harness) could be a difficult choice especially if you think you're well enough trained to land the jet safely on water (hitting water in a jet is about as destructive as hitting something solid). Its a difficult choice, would I bang out? I don't know. It would depend on the state of the aircraft. If I'd been hit and suspected airframe damage (likelihood of aircraft breaking up higher on landing than if not damaged) I think I'd bang out. If it was another failure and in one piece, Id expect my training and ditching drills to be up to speed and try land on the water. That is just peacetime though. Where is the water? Behind enemy lines or the beach controlled by my side's Marines. It all makes a difference. As far as Ejector Seat aircrew survival equipment is concerned if its anything like Martin Baker seats that I have sat on you sit on your survival kit (which includes the dinghy). When you strap into the seat the survival equipment is already in the seat. You strap yourself to that, which is in turn strapped to the seat. If you want to get out of the whole gig (without the weight of the survival gear) fast its a 90 degree turn and a hard hit on the harness release button on your chest to unlock the harness, you stand up and step out. If you want to leave with the survival gear you hit a seat release and stand up with the survival gear hanging around your ass. In the case of ejection you ride the seat to a safe height under the seat drogue chute then it automatically releases you from the seat, deploys your personal chute and the survival gear hangs round your ass until you hit the deck. So in either case depending how you leave depends on what you leave with.

Touch screen+touch Buddy to make a A-10C CDU?
JaseGill replied to questerymj's topic in Home Cockpits
Questrymj, Is it necessary therefore to use Window Mode to run a USB Monitor? Sorry I'm not up on all the multi monitor stuff that is becoming more popular. I'm already on Win 7 64 for DCS so that's not a snag. -
Rel, I was under the impression that it sinks, cant say I have tried and very open to correction on that one. I'd expect the jet to float for some time in most configurations, again open to correction. A Nimrod (big ASW jet) ditched in the Moray Firth on approach to Kinloss some time ago and it floated long enough for everyone to pitch over the side into MS10's.

Cheers Mack. Well just waiting now to see which is cheaper, Boot910's great looking hardware UFC or a second small USB touch monitor one. -
You may have a point there Kuky that I hadn't considered. I think you'd also have to see the background spec that's involved (motherboard, memory, BIOS Settings) before you could say that single (amongst many) benchmark has any significance. I know that the BIOS on my P8P67 PRO allows you to turn off the automatic over-clocking that's built in, whether this is the case across the board (no pun intended) I couldn't say. As in all things PC, its about much more than the CPU, no matter how good the CPU.

That is some pretty SH flying there Intruder. Well done. Must have ago myself now :)

Sobek, That graph and many like it are on a hundred websites, in a hundred magazines and splashed all over the internet and unless everyone (me included) is in Intel's pay (I wish I was I could do with the extra cash) then it has to be taken as a consensus I believe. I agree, one graph on one website (even this hallowed ground) is no proof, but its not one graph on one website once one performs a minimum of investigation via Google. The only conclusion I see anyone jumping to is that its pretty conclusive, hence a good conclusion, wouldn't you agree? In the end the only thing that matters is real-life experience and I can only offer my own, which is that in a non-overclocked i5 2500K (rest of my spec in my sig) I'm getting in the 70's FPS general flying, 40 over the battlefield, 30 + when there's loads going on and not even the infamous noticeable lag when the cannon rounds hit. For me that's all the proof I need that the above graph is sufficient to jump to some pretty conclusive conclusions. sorry if it sounds like a rant or a dig at you, as its not supposed to. Had you said "I'd like to see more proof other than one graph before I believe all I read" then I would have agreed. But as you have already said you've seen all those yourself. +1 rep to you as an aside, as I think this is what these forums are for, good debate and without it, and informed members like yourself, it would be a much worse place for it. I really do follow this forum with great interest and think it is the best of its type. If I could I'd give ED +100 rep just for being so experimental in releasing A10C to its community and allowing us input. I think this must be the way to go in future for all gaming communities with such informed, intelligent members. Anyway that's all OT so back to the debate ;)

Thanks for the Calibration Tools Quinncidence, much appreciated. I too have a slight offset on my stick after investigating and I also put it down to loading bias on the armament until I saw this thread last night. Its small but in a bit of kit this sensitive I think that a little bit probably goes a long way. I wonder if its because over time the stick grease that I have read so much about affects it either one way or another with some build up? I'm not about to disassemble it to find out. I also wonder if were going to have to use the calibration routine on a semi-regular basis and therefore whether it should be available at the TM website for general download? I think its about the best bit on non-military spec hardware (better than some mil-spec hardware in some cases) I have ever used and in that case alone I think its worth the cost and some small effort to get it working at its optimum. I'll try the calibration routine out tonight and report back.

Sobek, Maybe you should look at Custom PC, PC Pro, PC Gamer, the Bit-Tech website, Toms Hardware, Overclockers Forum and any number of other magazines and websites ad infinitum before commenting on how lopsided this test is. You'll find that its about as one sided as a sack of Dodecahedron's ;) The accepted consensus is that the Sandy Bridge architecture is head and shoulders above anything else available at this time, and at a very good price point I'd add. The only ones upset at this time are AMD. I'm no Intel Fan-boy either in case you're wondering. I think its about time AMD got back in the game. No progress is ever made when a single company has a monopoly, we need competition to push AMD and Intel to keep outdoing each other, otherwise we stagnate.

That is still one of my favourite missions. I still get a buzz from the SAR pickup (even though he's pronounced dead on arrival). Probably comes from my days in the CSAR community. Great mission and with the mixed AAA and SAM threats hidden around the town and the ability to try out Maverick, LGB and JDAM I think its the perfect mix with just the right mix of threat environment. Just enough other assets to give some Radio training too with the UH60's and F15's.
