  1. I've finally figured out how to land the Spit! I thought that I was doing something fundamentally wrong with all of my previous attempts and I've figured out what my problems were. I changed 2 things- first I started using normal traffic pattern approaches, I had been practicing straight in approaches from about 2-3 miles out. Using the short final while turning into the runway REALLY helps to keep it in sight and makes it easier to line up properly. Secondly, I was not pulling the stick back after touchdown. Pulling the stick back really seemed to help. I guess it applies more force to the tail wheel to help keep it tracking properly? Landing this plane is fun once you get the hang of it!

  2. I've made about 50 or so landing attempts in the spitfire I'd guess. Still haven't had a successful one, generally end up tipping onto the right wing tip after rolling out about 50-100 yards. What seems to happen is the plane will start to swerve right and the left rudder input is just enough to tip it over. I figure I'm doing something fundamentally wrong the same every time, just haven't figured it out yet. Fortunately for me the plane is never damaged and I can take off again right away for another attempt. Take off is no problem now!!

  3. Here is a little helper for a start. After some practice you get get a good feeling where you have to place the target to get the respective angle. The higher angles require some leaning, so try to remember the picture in reference to the lower window edge when leaning in.

I realy like the 15° deliveries. Not only is it very easy to set up the correct angle (place target on lower edge of mirror), it is also easy to manipulate your speed and provides ample time for mental error correction.

Thanks for that Mbot, very helpful.

  4. Radar was on.

Hehe I can tell you what happened there. I actually had good tone when he lost me around the EDIT:3:30 mark, missile didn't fire. I was mostly trying to figure out why on my dash. Drop tank release was on lol.

He killed me at least 2 times in that match, maybe 3. Great piloting Hadwell  Have a ton to learn, but 3 or 4 gun kills and several missile kills later (and a bunch of deaths) it's getting a little more natural.

I do run with radar on ready instead of open after that particular confrontation:doh:

Edit: When I looped around behind him on the tacview footage at round 3:30 to 4:12 (when I lost my energy and had to dive and curse at the sidewinders not firing as everything was on and they were visible on the pylons) I had tone and several good chances for sidewinder shots.

I have 2 HOTAS buttons mapped to Emergency all jettison button cover OPEN and Emergency all jettison. This way I can drop all my tanks with 2 HOTAS inputs, works great for surprise dogfights. Got caught one too many times with that darned jettison switch on. I considered just using 1 button for emergency jettison and just popping the emergency jettison cover off manually during startup so it's ready to go lol.

  5. The biggest problem I seem to have is determining how far away from the target I should be before beginning the roll in. Too far away and my pitch is too low, too close and pitch is too high/dive is too steep. Anyone have suggestions on roll in/slant range distances to targets needed based upon desired dive angle or how to determine when the roll in should begin?

  6. Do you guys think the boom and zoom, climb away tactics are going to work once the missiles are fixed and the F5 can start using it's missiles? Will the Mig be able to keep enough speed/climb rate over the F5 to be able to outrun/climb the missile?

  7. Thanks for the responses! I guess I was just assuming that if a ground force was lasing a target for me to attack then I would need to know where the target is with some type of symbology so that the bomb release would be at least near the intended target. Maybe they would just use a talk on type attack and the jtac would give the pilot an idea of where the target is based off of landmarks or coordinates? I guess if the pilot was picking the target and requesting a ground lase it'd be easier but that just seems odd to me.

  8. Anyone know how the GBU12/HUD will work with buddy lasing? I'm assuming there will be some type of pipper/release indicator in the HUD. The HUD isn't very sophisticated though so I'm not sure how it's going to work. I didn't see info for that in the manual, just skimmed through it though.

  9. Add wind data in the LASTE panel. Not too difficult, just check briefing for wind at the different altitudes and put them in.

Isn't it a bit more complicated than that though? I thought the wind info given in the briefings wasn't set up properly for the A10. I think the metric units need to be converted to U.S. and the wind direction needs to be changed also. Altitude needs to be converted from meters to feet, m/s converted to knots and the wind direction given in the briefing is actually 180 degrees from what the CDU needs. If you have the Enemy Within campaign you can see that Baltic Dragon has made these conversions and put them into his briefings. I think this info is correct but someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
