  1. Some of the SteamVR releases were apparently rounding the renderTargetMultiplier; so if you had it below 1.5 it reverted to 1 and above it went to 2). I can't confirm, but read about it happening for a while. It may be fixed now. Would be great if they could just make the darn thing an easily user configurable thing. [EDIT] it's fixed in the beta http://steamcommunity.com/games/250820/announcements/detail/597112859862346176
  2. Looks nice. How much did that set you back?
  3. Damn I really shouldn't have started reading about this. Seems like there's some interesting low cost platforms in development. This was a kickstarter and seems close to production http://fasetech.com/rc3-3dof/ This looks cool as well - neat idea about the half shell. http://www.feelthree.com/
  4. Failing that, you're just going to have to build yourself one of these :D
  5. Dang, that's an impressive setup! I bet he spent a bit more than 4 or 5 grand on that however ;)
  6. VR + a motion platform would be very immersive. I haven't seen anyone flying a setup like that yet. Have you contacted them about price and build? Doesn't seem to be overly expensive (i.e. website seems to indicate around AUD$4K for just the platform) but not sure what else would be needed to get it to work.
  7. Not sure .. I haven't experienced that issue. Have you tried different graphics settings to see if makes any diff? Could be that you're forced to render more objects. I actually no longer mind dying in a mission just because it pops you out into superman mode flying around another aircraft. Plenty of times I've stayed in a mission post-crash for ages just so I can enjoy the view of the other aircraft go about their business.
  8. I'd love to replay some of the missions I've flown (e.g. especially using exterior views), but every track replay I've doe so far in VR has been rubbish. Most times the aircraft simply crashes but guns etc keep firing. I know track replay has been broken before, but does anyone have any tips on how to get a good replay of a mission that still gives you switchable camera views etc whilst in VR?
  9. That's really cool news. It's only going to get more and more amazing isn't it. Next few years are going to be really exiting ... and painful for my wallet I fear.
  10. FC3 works fine - you just don't get the clickable cockpits, so unless you map everything to a HOTAS you might find it frustrating flying with the Vive if you constantly have to refer back to a keyboard.
  11. You're not doing anything wrong - the gloves are just visual at the moment (i.e. no cockpit/button interaction)
  12. Same things isn't it :smilewink: ?? Seriously though, I'm with you on that theory. I've not tried a Leap Motion sensor but somehow am hesitant to buy one purely because of the concern that tracking may be terrible.
  13. I've seen the glove as well and wondered what they were planning. They might yet implement some kind of interaction between the glove and the cockpits. There was something similar done in FSX by the makers of FlyInside in combination with an Orion/Leap Motion sensor. I feel that even if the controller would work by simulating an interactive gloved hand, I'm not sure I'd use the Vive controllers. Swapping between hand controller and a HOTAS sounds awkward. Something like the leap motion solution should feel a lot more realistic if it can track your hand movement accurately. Somehow I wouldn't be surprised if we see a Vive compatible VR glove come out within the next 12 months.
  14. Gotcha.. thanks.
  15. Sorry if I've missed it somewhere else, but quick question here .. does anyone know if the new pixel density slider now overrides the manual edits in the ‘steamvr.vrsettings’ file? I'm just not sure how DCS handles the conflict if there is one.
  16. Latest drivers 368.81 for the 1080 seemed to have improved performance a fair bit. I haven't quantified it by comparing frame rates yet but anyone else notice the same thing?
  17. What driver version have you got running? 368.69 was cactus due to the broken boost. I haven't upgraded to 368.81 yet - going to try that this weekend.
  18. Pushing super sampling to 2.5 is probably a bit too ambitious. Try going back to below 2 and set options as per this post: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2800507&postcount=1101 You've similar specs to my rig - I've got SS set to 1.7 at the moment and not having any of those issues. Although I'm getting some reprojection in dense areas, overall it's running pretty good.
  19. What HOTAS are you using? If it's something like the X55, you could just the Saitek software to bind a button to act as the left mouse-click. I think the cursor tends to disappear when you leave the preview window on the desktop. I think there's a way you can get the mouse cursor to be captured inside DCS, but don't have a full answer on that. From memory that seems to have happened to me a few times.
  20. Is there a way to get the tutorial pointers running whilst in VR with the Vive? (i.e. those highlighted arrows which point you at the right control along with the training text). I've been trying to learn how to fly the Gazelle and it's frustrating being told to turn on some French labeled switch in English whilst not being able to refer to the manual. I can see them when running in normal monitor mode, .. just not in the Vive.
  21. Got the Vive last night and gave it a quick go in the A10C on the Nevada map. I'll need to do some tweaking to get it a bit smoother but .. Oh my! This is just too darn good. All I need now is a motion platform :) Just an incredible sensation when you first sit inside the jet and see everything in 3D. The cockpit always looked so much larger on the monitor. You really get a sense of scale with the VR - the massive size of the aircraft behind you and the height you sit off the ground. Just awesome! I can't wait to get this running a little better - the menu interface was painful with the look/point,click interface and performance on the ground & takeoff was a bit choppy. I didn't get a chance yet to try it with all the SteamVR stuff disabled. The software must still have a lot of optimization left to do though. Given the relatively low resolution, you'd think a modern machine with a 1080 card would blitz a small dual screen output to a VR headset. I was running triple 30" screens in 7680x1600 and everything was butter smooth. Surely that has to be more taxing on the GPU and system than the Vive. Anyway, it's very early days in the scheme of VR and I'm sure things will improve. Hats off to all the developers out there though which are making this stuff a reality.
  22. What did you mean by that? .. surely not the Vive Setup package???
  23. HAHA .. yea sure hope so - it bloody cost enough!. It's funny, you know I lost interest in PC flying when I did a real pilot's license and eventually flew less and less hours because it got too expensive. Then VR comes out, along with requirement specs to make your eyes water ... and here I was complaining about how expensive real world flying was
  24. Thanks for the heads-up. The box is a new 8 Core i7-6900K, with a Gigabyte G1-1080 and 32GB of 3200 RAM ... so I do hope it's up to the task since there wasn't too much more I could throw at it given the current tech :smilewink:. I'm looking forward to experiencing the Vive - I'm sure it'll be a learning curve to get the most out of it.
  25. Hi Folks I've been on the sidelines for a while .. age aside, the last time I was flying a PC regularly was around the time that LOMAC and TrackIR came out. Over the last few months however I've gotten back into the genre and am once again faced with a steep learning curve within DCS. The promise of flying in VR was just way too tempting, so I've just built a new battle box and ordered a VIVE (which will arrive next week). Anyway, getting back on subject - and I'm hoping for some info and advice on setup with DCS (non-steam edition). I'm still reading through this rather extensive thread, but is there a current 'sticky' or an article someone can point me at which summarizes the best way to get the Vive working well with DCS outside of Steam?
