  1. I'm currently running at medium/low settings with a distinctly out-of-date P4 3.6Ghz w/ 2Gb RAM and a Radeon X1950 @ 1920 x 1200 and I'm getting 15 FPS on the ground and 20-25 FPS in the air.

At the risk of offending someone with a shiny new PC, I would suggest that you could turn down some of your options slightly with very little hit on the graphics side of things whilst simultaneously getting a meaningful increase in FPS.

From Matt in the recent Sim HQ interview:

Q: What was the intended target for the graphics with regards to hardware capability?

A: Using our recommended specifications or higher, we target folks using the default HIGH graphics pre-set. During testing, we found this generally provided frame rates of around 30, which is our target FPS. However, in order to “future proof” the game as hardware power advances, we still allow the user to manually up the graphics past the default HIGH settings. This turns out to be a catch 22 though because some folks will of course try to manually max-out all the settings on current system and be disappointed by frame rates. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

  2. just plugged in my Xbox360 Controller and played the GAME/ARCADE Modus.

This was so much fun! I turned Godmode on and simply flew around with the joypad and happily killed all the targets. It seems like its a good way to start the weekend after 5 days in the office :D

    Cheers :joystick::pilotfly:

    Disgusting... :(

  3. I'd also like to add my name to this thread.

I first started playing flying games (before there was any concept of a simulator) over 20 years ago. Back then, I never would have dreamed that I'd ever get to see something as truly astonishing as Black Shark in my lifetime.

Flanker was a great sim, but lacking in immersion and structure. Flanker 2 and 2.5 were big disappointments to me because they completely failed to address these issues. I felt very much the same about Lock On and the only reason I persevered with Flaming Cliffs was because the Su-25T was such a joy to fly.

The arrival of Black Shark has changed all of that. Finally, we have the holy grail of high-fidelity study sim and great gameplay. As an earlier poster pointed out, it's like the days of Longbow 2 again.

Black Shark really has turned out to be exactly what I hoped it would be and more. As someone who's been making games for over 11 years, I can really appreciate the love, hard-work and craftsmanship that's gone into this sim. It truly is an amazing achievement.

Congratulations, ED. I really hope this turns out to be as big a success as it deserves to be.

    PS - I can't wait for the Mi-24. ;)

  4. Oh... my... God...

That fix is the single best thing to happen to my fight simming experience in years. After playing around with it in Black Shark and suddenly being able to fly as smooth as silk, I went back and tried the same thing in Flaming Cliffs and Il-2 1946.

Unbelievable. Just the most incredible sense of smooth, precise control. I could pinpoint strafe armour in the Su-25T and pick off chunks of 109s at 300m.

WHY DID NO ONE EVER TELL ME ABOUT THIS BEFORE!!! :D

  5. Hi guys,

I'm having trouble getting the Cougar script to work. :(

I copy/pasted it into my *.tmj file and got

ERROR 2001: Unknown button name: S4/I
I quickly figured out that this was because it seems like some spaces had gone missing from the script.

Having added all of the relevant spaces, I then got

ERROR 2020: Unknown key press in a button statement TO_CURRENT
I'm pretty sure that my firmware version is up to date (3.06). Any ideas what I could be doing wrong?
  6. Great video indeed, I'm looking forward to see the hires version.

Wags, are you using a TrackIR 4 pro? My experience with the 3 pro is that I have trouble keeping my head perfectly still especially when looking down. Maybe the TrackIR 4 is better for that, but anyway I posted an idea to make flipping switches easier: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=497739&postcount=422

Do you think it's still possible at this stage of development to put that option in the code? It shouldn't take much more than a reference frame rotation...:smartass:

I have the same problem and that seems like an incredibly smart solution. Nice thinking, Phoenix.
