  1. Pretty good campaing with the M2k Red Flag....on mission 7 however, I CANNOT for the life of me get the trigger to work at way point 2 which I am supposed to fly to by 620am. I book it, get there ontime and at 13,000 feet as per the mission....but it doesn't let me advance to the next part of the mission and move on to the rocket attacks etc.

Here is a link to the youtube video I'm trying to copy that I can't even get to work -

    Please help. Thank you!

  2. Agreed. Is DAWS (the only version of this i've found when searching online) dead or broken? I heard it could at least let you save the game as a mission (where units are etc) mid flight.

SOMEONE has to be able to make something for us....right?

Anyone know the answer to this? Is the program out there somewhere and working "good enough" to help with this issue?

  3. Bump. This option is really needed. Who, with little kids, has time to fly straight 2h mission? Sad that ED really doesn't care about this. Is there any other option (when DAWS is dead, as I understand)?

Is DAWS dead? Is there really not any way to repair it if it is? What happened to DAWS?

It is exactly because of there not being a save feature Mid Mission when many missions take 2 hours or so that I don't sit down and log into DCS or buy more aircraft or campaigns. Love realism. It's also realistic that we have lives and in a sim that requires hours at a time for deep missions etc we NEED this feature!

  4. DCS world is such an amazing sim but, for so many of us that only have limited time, there REALLY needs to be some sort of "save system" to help us resume mid mission at a later time. By the time I set up my cockpit, jump into VR, start up my aircraft, taxi, fly, and then fly another 30 minutes to a mission location it can take quite some time.

I need something, anything, that will allow me to save where I am in the mission or at least create a new mission right where I'm at and I can at least resume that. I googled around and saw some old program (Daws or something) but couldn't tell if it worked.

Please please tell me there is something out there that will help with this and allow me to save in one way or another!?!? ** Such as DAWS?!?

    Thank you

  5. You should... how long are your dogfights lasting that you are running out of fuel in a Tomcat at that range? Even in a Hornet you should still have fuel to spare and she doesn't have anywhere near the legs of a Tomcat.

Well, ummm, sometimes I'd dead right off the bat or other times I have a hard time maneuvering to get the enemy in front of me and out from behind my back.

Should I just be letting sidewinders fly right off the bat? I know this could be answered in such a long discussion, but generalities here can help a new guy out. Thanks

  6. 1. It's just proper simulation of RL buffeting.

    2. Maybe it was TCS (TV Camera Set) you saw? You choose this view changing VDI mode on the pilot's right control panel.

    4. Did you have a lock?

    5. If you have any slight chance of ending up in a dogfight - drop'em. Taking the risks is suicidal.

    6. F-15 is comparable. Others not much.

I'm on a mission where I have to fly about 90 miles from the aircraft carrier and then dog fight. Would I really dropped the tanks that far away dog fight with afterburners and then have enough fuel to make it back?

Also, separately, I know where all the lights are on the bottom right side panel... And I can't for the life of me get them all to turn on. What gives?

  7. Hey guys,

I'm experiencing problems with the weather tab. I can't change it to any sort of preset, nor will it stay in dynamic weather mode.

Whenever I change stuff and want to save the mission file, it resets back to standard weather. The setting for wind and turbulence with static weather however, can be changed.

    Am I missing something?

    Cheers!

I also for the life of me can't figure this out. I've changed the weather from default to winter clear and then clicked the little load button next to winter clear in the mission editor....but it ALWAYS just goes back to default.

Please share how to change the weather. Simply want some of the missions I run during the summer to change to a snow/winter weather to provide a nice change of scenery. This really shouldn't be so complicated?

    Please advise. Thank you.

  8. Can you kind folks help me with these ?

1 - Buffet Shaking is the console and everything in front of me shaking as I turn etc?

2 - I've watched other videos of F-14 DCS and their VDI looks almost like a map of the ground in more detail than anything I've been doing. How ? Also, during a night mission my VDI was red...how do I make it green as I'm used to?

    3 - Answered **

4 - Sparrows. When I swap to sparrows from guns, then sidewinder, then SP on the flight stick they don't always fire dependably like the sidewinders. What gives? Do I need to do something else to use them?

5 - When about to engage air to air with the F-14, do you typically always want to jettison the drop tanks? That's alot of fuel to dump even when traveling far they hold ALOT. With that in mind, I'm enjoying trying instant action Persian Gulf summer of 88 mission...where you launch from a carrier and engage about 100 miles north. What would you do? Burners until within 25 miles of the enemy and then drop tanks for increased maneuverability? Or did F-14 Pilots typically always keep drop tanks anyway for their long range?

6 - After using the P-15, F-5, Mirage 2000, and now the F-14 it seems as if the F-14 has a much larger fuel capacity and flight range. Also a much faster speed, even than the Mirage. Am I right on this overall?

  9. A few follow ups if I may -

3 - Fuel. If I go full afterburners it seems to be using my drop tanks first but sometimes I see my left and right tanks start to drain....but then they fill back up again. Is that how drop tanks worked on the F-14 since designed back in the 60's?

    Great experience so far.

  10. Hey guys, ok. So, I haven't even attempted any of this yet because I ALLLMOST was able to solve this. Looking around Youtube I found this video of a guy who uses DCS mission editor to load up a trak, then simply configure the trak in the mission editor to allow external views, then save the trak again. Close mission editor, go to "replays" inside DCS and then once you load up the trak you can simply press F2 and BOOM, you are outside your plane, no VR motion sickness, you can control z for 5 minutes and BAM, you are back where you were in the mission.

Problem is, this worked all day yesterday. Today, after countless attemps, I can't get this to work again.

1 - Based on the above, any ideas? Any solutions?

2 - I love the whole options.lu thing you mentioned along with the other guy here who just mentioned using the DCS Updater GUI. Cool, but seems a bit complicated. That alone will be hours of tinkering.

3 - Here is my goal. For example, I'm playing the F-14 Instant action Persion Gulf summer of 88 mission. Here's the thing, you have to take off from the carrier and fly 100 miles until you meet the targets. Then, typically, I'm dead pretty quickly. In order to "try again" I literally have to fly the mission again, maybe control z to that point (which is kinda lame), and then try again. It's exhausting.

Based on 3, isn't there for God's sake SOOOME easier way to just save where I am in a mission and pick it up there? Some solution to save time retrying? This is so tedious I can't believe there isn't a solution yet to help bring more people into DCS. Invincibility is lame so I don't want to go that route.....there has to be some easy way without becoming a DCS programmer?

    Thanks in advance!

  11. I personally like this one here a lot - https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3303911/

The author is also trying to crack the Customized Cockpit option to enable easier use - but I believe this is an issue HB/ED are looking into.

OVGME is a great program - so quick and simple. Just select the mod and enable it - disable it..patch..then re-enable it. It doesn't get any easier than that.

    My current 'selection'

Thanks Vampire. OVGME doesn't always work with many DCS mods though, correct? Just for understanding - missions (.miz or whatever) and even some skins....those don't seem to work with OVGME correct? I can get the VR F-14 mod working by doing what you said after the patch...disabling...then reenabling....but am curious about my point on missions, skins, etc.

  12. Title says it all. Was able to get one of the downloadable mods working for a bit....that cleared up the cockpit "rubbed out" wording for VR.....but with the recent patch the mod doesnt work anymore.

Any suggestions as to a solution so that us VR users can read the cockpit wording? OVGME or whatever that god forsaken old program is a pain to use and I can't get any of these mods to stick when using it. If you DON'T use OVGME the create of the mod basically warns you that its a total mess to download the mod directly.

    Need help. Frustrated. Thank you!

  13. Make 2 different "config.lua" files. One with a decent 2D-setup, one with your VR-settings.

Then just deactivate the "config.lua" you don't need by changing the file-name.

In my config-folder there are 2 config.lua files

config.4K.lua <--- delete the ".4K" to activate it and play in 2D-mode

config.VR.lua <--- delete the ".VR" to activate it and play in VR-mode

Note: always make sure that there is just one config file active!

This is the way I'm watching my replays.

Thank you very much kind sir. A wonderfully polite helpful being from another dimension just came to my door and spoke the most polite giberish.

LOL, seriously though my friend, very kind of you to reply but what on earth does all that mean. Can I watch a track while in VR and then just "take over?" Why isn't that an easily accomplished task?

1 - Can that be done? My goodness.

2 - If not, I Guess I HAVE to learn what the above means?

    Thanks though bud

  14. Aware of "Off" and then Ord on Hud. Just can't get the darn things to drop. As I said in my OP, I found the "stores release button" of alt+spacebar. Still, with Ord on Hud can't get anything to drop. Maybe I need Jester correct weapons picked as final step.

    Will try tonight. Ty

Edit - While I'm here being a noob. Flares/countermeasures. Through my RIO controls? As pilot, when I see an incoming missile, how do I use CM - Chaff / Flare etc.

  15. Watched Videos. Looked around these forums. Can't find it.

When I search adjust controls and then search under controls and type weapon release, bomb release, etc etc. the only thing I can find is store release alt + spacebar. Guessing that ain't it. How do I release bombs and, preferably, what are the keybinds for the keyboard and x52.

    Thank you

  16. Team - My experience with DCS has been (in order) with the P-51, F-5, Mirage 2000 (completed both campaigns), and now the F-14. I use Oculus Rift VR, X52, a flight seat, and have a pretty nice setup. Never flew IRL. I have a few potentially silly questions about the F-14. I've watched a ton of Videos to learn what I describe below but wanted to ask you folks a few quick things if I may -

1 - After using the Mirage I think I may have this statement somewhat correct? . . . The Mirage was the first of the aircraft I flew (see above) that uses Fly By Wire systems. This basically means, I think, that the computer knows how to make sure when I fly around I don't "yank too hard" and maneuver inappropriately....and blow myself up.

With the F-14, I am noticing I frequently pull to the left or right and blow my own wing off lol. I'm guessing that this is because the Tomcat is older than the Mirage and doesn't use Fly By Wire? FBW wasn't "invented" back in the time of the F-14's development? Can anyone help me with a little blurb on this overall situation so I understand it?

2 - If I have 1 somewhat correct, what do I need to do to judge not damaging my own jet? Do I simply fly a ton until I learn what works and doesn't? Is there some sort of way to gauge if I should or shouldn't use a certain maneuver?

3 - I've successfully learned F-14 Cold Start w full checklist, Take off with Carrier, Landing with Carrier, and Guns. All with Pilots point of view. RIO perhaps way down the line. So I'm prepped on what to expect, it seems so far that the "radar" as pilot doesn't show much....probably due to the RIO having "it all?" As pilot in single player, any general advice on how I use radar / my RIO to spot enemy aircraft and ground targets.

Thank you. Doing what I can.

  17. Team,

A week ago I was able to raise and lower the speedbrake. It seems to no longer be working? Control-B or Shift-B? Anyone else having any issues?

Finally, if you have any solutions for how / where to bind on the x52 please share! VR user with x52 flight sticks.

    Thank you.

  18. that was it. thanks!

Same problem here after training with Jester. Tried extending strut, nothing worked, pressing N, using the joystick. nothing.

Odd, nose wheel steering worked perfectly fine taxiing in other areas/conditions. Any thoughts? Definitely not a key bind issue.
