  1. Love the Mirage. Went from the Mustang, to the F5, and then Mirage. 6 months into DCS.

There are a few things I just can't seem to find. These are small but they are driving me a bit crazy lol !

1 - The INS waypoint altitude manual input. Are we supposed to do this? In the campaign it keeps mentioning that we should manually update each waypoints altitude. I saw somewhere else that one of the guys that made the campaign replied in these forums somewhere and it seemed like he said we aren't really supposed to do that. Thoughts?

2 - What is the trick to keep weapons working when switching between them? It always bugs out. I know how to use guns, Magic, etc. but when you use drop tanks or even no drop tanks at all....it just seems that swapping between all the weapon systems causes many of the next weapons you switch to to not work. I can use guns, swap to missiles, fire 2 missiles, then its kind of hard to get guns to work again. Any tips?

3 - The auto pilot. I can easily get it to use the "main" autopilot feature of simply holding altitude. Easy. When I try to use the one that causes the Mirage to fly up or down to the target altitude that I manually put in, it never works. Let's say i put in 20,000 feet. I'm flying at 15,000. I hit autopilot green button then I copy what some other DCS pilot showed in his video...and I just can't get the altitude adjusting autopilot to engage. Any tips?

4 - Bombing. The campaign mission 6. Honestly, it barely teaches anything about how to bomb. I know the Mirage is an interceptor but I'd love to still learn how to do this. The mission is fun and immersive....but doesn't really say too much. I watched some videos and they are far more in depth and still vague. I almost figured I'd just give up on bombing (in the Mirage) but that feels kind of lame of me.

5 - Flares. I know the little black "box" on the left is turned on. Ok, gotcha. But then what else do I need to do to use flares. They are tricky and don't always work.

    Thanks all !

  2. This. Couldnt agree more. Just go to Blueflag server, pick a side Blue or Red and begin capture all enemy assets......... if you can

As a newer player (8 months in - Mustang, Mirage, F-2) I'm interested in this somewhat. Could anyone elaborate a bit on what this guy meant above? I've only joined a server just to fly around in multiplayer. This sounds intriguing.

  3. Yes, we can! I have TDC axis bound to TDC on warthog throttle and it works like a charm.

The PCA logic is kind of buggy still so make sure that you have A/A weapon selected when trying to lock on target. For example, if you drop a drop tank, PCA keeps it selected even though the yellow light is not lit anymore which prevents you from locking any targets

I don't remember the Mission 4 exactly, but the target also may be jamming - check if you have 'BR' in top left corner - then you can't lock the target until your radar burns through

I think THIS may be my problem! In the mission I dropped tanks prior to attempting my lock. That must be it. Key part being when you shared, "even though the yellow light is not lit anymore."

    Thank you.

  4. I'm running in VR and am new so please understand I'm doing my research but by the time I'm airborn and have done pre-flight, INS, flown to waypoints etc I could be missing something.

Thanks to your help here I'm able to move the TDC around the radar by moving ; and . , / so that's good.

A couple questions and problem I'm still having (and I'm doing my research by watching videos + reading manuals. I know how to use the INS and most of the Mirage's features)....

1 - First, since we cant bind the TDC up down left and right to axis on the hotas....what do you guys typically bind them to?

2 - For some reason on the Mirage Campaign mission 4 I can move the TDC as described above but I cannot for the life of me "lock on." I'm pressing the keybound button on my hotas and it won't lock. To double check, I created a mission where I'm simply flying behind a c-130 and I'm easily able to move the TDC and then lock onto the C-130. This must be because the mission I create somehow has the correct radar setting to where I can lock....but in the campaign mission I simply haven't set what I need to to be able to lock.

I've read advice here that I need my radar in a certain mode (PIC or PID). On the page previous to this one in this thread you guys are mentioning those options and then I believe debating whether or not you have to use a certain mode. LOL, I can't even figure out where to swap PIC or PID and haven't seen PIC on my radar screen either. Are these related to my inability to lock in my mission? I'm probably missing one change I need.

The Mirage is fun! She has so many communications/settings! Red Radio, Green, IFF, Tacan, INS....learning it all. Getting there : )

  5. I won't beat you to death with terminology since this is relatively new for you; here's where you need to look and what you need to bind. Remember that you will need to be in single target track mode to use the Super 530; the RADAR screen will say "PIC"

I love how helpful everyone on these forums has been since I joined and started DCS. Thank you !

  6. If I may, I'll jump in here with a question about the radar. I'm newer to DCS and this seems like a good place to ask rather than start a new thread. I'm pretty familiar with the Mirage, been flying for the last 2 months. Fun!

I understand having the radar from warmup to "on" and all that is fine. I'm asking about locking on the radar itself. I've seen youtube videos of guys where it looks like they are actually clicking on the radar itself and somehow "moving something around" and targeting or locking by clicking the radar. There is no part of the tutorial or anything that goes over this I've seen so I thought I'd ask here.

When I have a mission to lock, I basically fly RIGHT behind the target and click a lock keybind to lock. But it doesnt work unless VERY close (like .5 miles).

Any thoughts about the on radar screen locking I'm asking about and also any advice on a general best way to "lock?"

    Thank you

  7. I appreciate the realism and that it is difficult. I really do.

From a sales perspective and enjoyment for newer DCS folks like myself, this campaign is basically a waste of money. I can't get beyond the first mission and accept I'm not a pro pilot. Ok, gotcha. I'm not of the top 5% of pilots that can complete this. No problem. Still, a bit too hard for us regular folks and I'll keep this campaign in the back pile of impossible to complete most likely.

Guess it's good we have a couple campaigns out there for the ultra realism crowd. Maybe someday I'll get there too!

  8. I'm able to do the touch and go, land, and get all the appropriate triggers. It even says something as I land the second time about taxing etc so I know the triggers are all satisfied. I've looked around and there are other players also who just haven't been able to "park" in the right place and get an end mission que.

Any idea of where to park exactly to get the trigger. I've parked in the hangar that looks like it is on the kneeboard to no avail. Now im driving around slowly so that I can turn around if I don't hit the trigger. Kind of want to end it the right way instead of editing notepads etc.

Any clues my peeps? Thank you in advance.

  9. Title says it all. I have my rift but unfortunately after 2 years or so my right right headphone is out. Yes, I've tried every guide and everything.

So, fine, I'll just use my higher quality non rift gaming headphones and unscrew the rift headphones. But.....even though I swapped the sound on my computer back to by g33 headset (non rift) DCS world seems to force the sound when in VR mode to the rift.

In vr mode with the rift in DCS, how do we change the sound from the rift built in earphones to my own non rift headphones? There must be a setting somewhere? Google turned up nothing.

  10. Studying these links and items. Thank you. I'm also enjoying the Cardovia vs Dreamland user created campaign. One quick question.

I'm in one of the campaign missions where I am able to bomb the target house, gun down the technical, air to air 2 mid 21's, and then head home. On the way home the mission has a SAM launcher fire a missile at me. On the f5's little radar it says simply 10 in the radar. That must be the type of sam.

I've looked around the forums and, surprisingly, haven't found much. Typically, should I time flare or chaff to throw off the SAM?

  11. Thought I'd chime in a bit to provide perspective from a relatively new player (6 mo). First of all, you have to love and appreciate any and all of these campaigns. They are a large part of what pulled me into my DCS purchase and how I envisioned long term fun. You have to respect and appreciate the time it takes to create wonderful campaigns such as this.

After spending the last 3-6 months getting to fly the p51 and then the F5 I definitely have become very comfortable in the F5. I took my time, read the manual, watched videos, successfully completed all training and "built in F5 missions" etc.

All that being said . . . even the first mission here F5 1v1 w. guns is tough. It just is. I've watched the videos in this thread and really appreciated the video on page 2 here where someone shows how he approaches the f5 1v1 with guns. I can mimic his approach (after flyby he seems to pull up and left and then kind of turn over - pardon my casual explanation here!) and at least survive the encounter but shooting down the f5 is hard. Respectfully, I would request and even recommend an easier option here. For the veterans I don't blame you guys for providing a realistic and tough experience. For us newer guys, it can be discouraging to purchase a campaign and after 10 tries (practice missions provided are GREAT! but its silly that they are so hard to find) still not be able to take out the f5. I'm only trying to provide constructive feedback. The voice work, mood, and setting is top notch. Knowing the way I am, I'll try another 10 or 20 times and eventually through watching videos and learning win.

It will be rewarding when I finally take out the other F5 but if you wanted to widen a capture audience I'd offer an easier version of the mission perhaps. Then this version can still be available as well.

Very classy and well done. Just a bit tough.

  12. Hello everyone. A few months in, love DCS, use VR w x52.. and just bought a volair, enjoying this.

So I decide to splurge a bit beyond my volair and vr... broaden my experiences behind training and the 4 F5 missions. Purchase Nevada and the F5 ACM Campaign (along with others) . First mission in after the tour NTTR flight mission and I'm 1v1 with a F5 guns only. I cant keep behind my enemy F5.

I've read a ton of forums here about turn rate, different approaches etc. Yeah, can't quite do it very well. I've flown free flight a bunch to try and figure out optimum turn speed for certain conditions.... Not much consistent. success when dogfighting. For us folks that don't fly in real life but need a bit of help to enjoy this experience and Key word - Progress beyond 1 mission in.... Can some tips about 1v1 F5 DOGFIGHTING be shared? I know keep afterburner on and try and keep energy, but need help. Dumbing down for new flight sim users welcome

    Cheers!

  13. I know. If you read what I said above I mentioned that my campaigns folder only has the store bought campaigns and the only place I find anything is under the missions tab. Weird

What's even weirder is that I turned off my comp, went to bed, woke up the next day, and now the campaign shows up in the campaign menu. It wasn't there before after checking countless times.

Oh well, I sorta somehow figured it out. Maybe it took "time" somehow to register in game?

  14. Ok, I am missing something here. Please see the steps I take to download a campaign and the corresponding pictures. It's rare I use file extraction tools so perhaps I'm not extracting incorrectly? Looking at these pictures please feel free to chime in with more exact descriptions. What I'm doing is download the file, click the file for the campaign in web browser, then I open file location, then extract it all into the directory. See below and please correct.

    Step 1 - Download File

    XklS4DR.jpg

Step 2 - Highlight all items in the file so EVERYTHING in this picture, shift click it all to turn everything blue, then I extract it EXACTLY into the correct path you guys are pointing me to

    uc7ZyfR.jpg

Step 3 - Look at everything in folder after downloaded. This may look a bit weird cause I've tried a few times by now.

    RquTTwO.jpg

Step 4 - Then look in game and see how under missions, campaigns, en, this looks all weird. When I go to my campaigns in game there is NOTHING even there (except the campaigns I bought directly from DCS) so I go to missions in game, then campaigns, en and it looks like below.

Please tell me what on earth I'm doing wrong lol.

  15. I'd say he was actually saying the opposite. "Great replies" might be the clue there?

Correct! I was being extremely thankful and appreciative. You guys helped me sort this out promptly. Great community here.

I was able to jump back into my missions where I couldn't find a darn thing and actually complete Hercules with my F5. The big help was bogey dope for a course directly from my position. I was initially requesting from bullseye but coursing as if that mean straight from my own location lol.

While I'm here - an additional silly noon question if I may. When landing at the airport I took off from at the end of a mission.... Would I land in the same direction I took off from? So that when I finally come to a a stop after landing I'm at the end of the runway right near where I took off? I'm new to flight so take it easy on me here ;)

  16. As the title says, I've followed youtube video guides and some old threads on these forums. For example, I just tried downloading the user campaign for my f5 "Cordovia vs Dreamland." From looking around the internet it seems I extract everything to

users, saved games, dcs world or dcs world beta, missions, campaigns, en. Well I've done that and nothing seems to work. I can sort of find them in game by going to the create custom campaign and opening it but I don't know how to PLAY it.

Please advise and thank you in advance.

  17. I'm currently flying the f5 single mission to defend the base. I have problems finding bandits and have trouble finding bandits in the F5 Hercules mission as well. I'll make my question ultra simple as I'm new. I'd prefer to keep it simple and not have to use rulers from bullseye or any other tricky method but just learn where awacs sees bogeys and what direction to face my aircraft.

What can I say or request from awacs so that I know where bandits are from my current position using my location / jet as the main point and then all I have to do is spin the course knob so that I can hen aim towards the bandits?

Can someone help me with this?

  18. I like the sound of that. A nice, simple rule!

  19. I understand the above image that those are for axis section only. Tnx for being so helpful. What i'm asking is can we put certain buttons that AREN'T in the axis section ASSIGNED TO Axis?

To be specific as I stated above - I'm now pretty good after some time learning to fly the F-5 and I'm tired of always having to adjust pitch up or down (To be exact its called elevator trim switch - PULL (Climb) or Push (Descend) on the F5) by pressing control and . or control and ; - That is tough in VR. I'm trying to make those commands set on some of my sliders/axis or whatever those sliding rotating buttons are.

    Thank you!
