Hi, everyone,
I am using the stable version (not the beta one), and I have observed the following behaviour of the AGM-84D harpoons:
I have set the AGM-84D up at flight level LOW. Terminal mode either SKIM or POP UP, no difference:
When using A/G radar in SEA mode *and* designating radar targets with TDC depress, and subsequently setting the harpoons to bearing/distance launch mode, the harpoons will stay at 5000 ft until *very* close to the target, then dive at the very last moment and occasionally hit the water before levelling off. Even if they do level off before hitting the water, they will do so just before hitting the target and never reach a proper flight path.
When using A/G radar in SEA mode and merely using the radar to determine the proper bearing to the target, leaving the harpoons at BOL (bearing-only-launch) mode, they will dive to low-level upon target acquisition, follow the proper flight path (skim or pop-up) and hit the target as expected.
I was able to reproduce this behaviour, both with an Elnya tanker and a Handy Wind cargo ship in the Caucasus environment. It must have something to do with the target designation by TDC. Until this is sorted out, I suggest to use SEA A/G radar just to get the proper bearing and launch in BOL mode.
Happy landings
