  1. Very nice! I wish I had the dedicated space to for this. Alas, I'll have to settle for just the jetseat (which is pretty cool in and of itself).

Please do give us your feedback after you receive it.

Will do. BTW, I will be using the Jetseat in conjunction with the NLR motion cockpit. It adds great nuances to the flight experience. Andre did a great job with the Jetseat software and hardware.

  2. I’m using the V3 in VR and it’s actually surprisingly good. Far better than l thought it would be.

I thought it would not really do that much. Have done time in real helicopters including the Heuy and it actually brought back lots of memories once l started using it compared to stationary VR, and was so much better than without. You know when your doing takeoffs esp step takeoffs, you feel it when your not hovering properly, and when your doing turns (esp high angle turns), and you even get those little bumps like you hit an air pocket every so often. And landing can be so much more fun and you feel it, sometimes with a good thud if too hard a landing. Crashes are awesome and when going in nose down, actually a little scary as it feels like your falling forward. When out of control, you are literally tossed around by the device. And all on a 2DOF motion platform that only moves a little.

But best of all, no more motion sickness. Truely, its resolved it. The motion of the V3 in VR really seems to help so l’m getting more flight time and doing more hair raising flying and the nausea is no more.

It might only be 2DOF, it might only be minor pitch and roll (and heave - the bounce), but if your not used to anything better, then its a great low cost start.

My set-up actually has all controls on the V3 including the pedals that are attached by a base board so its full body movement (even if only minor). And that l think makes the difference as the whole body moves with the V3, not just the torso, so movement sensation is further enhanced under VR. Forget about just the chair moving, build a lightweight base with the chair, controls and pedals all attached onto it and its far better (l’ll post a picture tomorrow). But weight has to be centred directly under you so you dont break the V3 it as its not actually advertised for how l have done it, but weight it properly, balanced correctly, and it works safely and within the limits of the V3’s parameters.

So its expensive for what you get, its cheap as a motion platform, but no way will l fly without it anymore. And no more recovering from wanting to vomit post flying.

So lasvideo, if your not used to motion platforms, and not spoilt by a full 6DOF, you will enjoy it and it will definitely change your flying enjoyment in VR. Although without VR, maybe not so much as the large movement perceptions will be gone.

    Have fun.

Great testimonial! Confirms my instincts to buy it. Still waiting on the V3 to appear on our shores and make its way to my cockpit here in Vegas :)

  3. Sounds like a bit too much for a simple 2-dof pivot seat. Can be had for about 2000$ here in Russia.

As I said earlier, I did consider the Russian DOF Reality product but rejected it due to....

    1. It took up to much space

    2. There were lots of cases of US customers receiving damaged goods.

    3. Its hard to return it if there are problems

    4. Its extremely noisy

    5. I had concerns about the durability of the wiper motors.

    6. When you add shipping and US customs it cost almost as much as the NLR unit.

The NLF is built by a Polish company who builds a large variety of motion platforms for business and industry worldwide. And it nicely integrates into the Next Level cockpits. DOF Reality is a glorified DIY product.

So it really was not a product I felt was worth buying. YMMV.

  4. The instructor messages are voice overs triggered by various actions during the mission. The only comms currently are F10-F1 - "1, COPY!" to indicate you heard him. In our later missions in the series (Tactical Qualification) this gets expanded so you can call G-Awareness tests, Fence In and Out, Range Check In and Out and other items.

Yes we debated how stringent to make the pass / fail criteria so in the end we decided to make the FE a mean sob who will fail you at the simplest infraction. You will learn very quickly and never forget a switch setting after playing for an hour and he calls you out on one that you missed. The pitot heat one has hit nearly everyone at some point.

The instructor is both surly and discouraging. I was really psyched to go thru the Basic training. His attitude and demeanor really ruined the learning process for me. There are good teachers and bad ones. This one stinks. I will never purchase anymore of this type of training. I have found others that are more positive and supportive in their communication styles. And have learned a lot from them. You guys missed the boat on this one.

  5. $4000 AUD but not sure if thats for the full pit or just the standalone platform

More of these purchase the more the price comes down, but I would probably start saving for one of these when more info here down under comes out!

    Excellant! ;)

    It includes...

    1. Racing Seat

    2. Wheel/Flight Stand

    3. Gaming Desktop - Mount wheel/yoke here

    4. Keyboard Desktop - Keyboard mounts here

    5. Flight Pack - Allows for throttle and stick to be mounted on chair

    6. Rug

    7. Monitor Stand

    8. Motion Platform V3 -This adds another layer of immersion magic to VR experience (This is the $$$$ item)

  6. What you will hear most often will be an AWACS giving you a BRA(A) call.

It starts like most communication with the recipients Callsign, in this case your callsign

    "Hawg 1-1",

Overlord, the callsign of the AWACS or GC etc.

The threat description etc. like "Pop up group" (new Radar contacts), "Bogey" (undetermined contact, maybe hostile or neutral), "Bandits" (known enemy).

B - Bearing from your position (the AWACS-Operator has you on its Radar screen) to the threat (in 0-359)

R - Range to the threat in NM

A - Altitude depends on format can be something like "High (7500-11000ft), or Angels <in feet x 100> , or 17.000 height in feet

A - Attitude the threat flys in reference to your position so "Hot" (towards you), "Cold" (away from you) or "Flanking" (on a parallel course).

So a call like "Hawg 1-1, Magic, pop up group, Bearing 189 for 140, angels 120, hot!

Means an AWACS with the callsign Magic has identified a new group of aircraft at a distance of 140 NM in the direction 189 (where you need to point the nose to directly fly towards them /mind this is not an intercept vector!), that is at 12.000 feet altitude and flying towards you.

Another way of giving direction is a Bullseye as the reference. So "bulls 15 for 69" means from the bullseye rough direction 150° in a distance of 69 NM.

"Hawg 1-1, Magic, Merged" means you are at 5 NM or closer to the threat. (the radar blips representing you and the other contact are merged on the screen... like in the Alien movie where they track the Captain and the Alien on the screen). ;)

Excellent post. This is the kind of stuff I need to understand. Good start....

  7. After spending the last few months learning the ins and outs of the A10C various systems, I felt it was time to put it all together and try some missions. I downloaded some off the Internet and tried to fly them. As things got heated up, I quickly discovered that I had no idea what was being communicated to me by the in game voices.

So my question is... is there any way I can access the various voice scripts in those missions so I can copy them and analyze what is being said? This is a quicker approach then going thru the whole game (in VR) and trying to write them down as I hear them.

  8. I purchased a 2dof chair from dofreality.

Great bit of kit and cheap

    https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=192995

I did look into Igors product but...

    1. It was to big for my space.

    2. To many reports of folks getting damage goods incurred by worldwide shipping.

    3. Software requires to much tuning for my taste.

    4. I can buy this on Amazon and very easily exchange it or get a refund if there are any issues.

So its worth it to me to pay more for the NLR Motion System . YMMV ;)

  9. Ive been flying DCS in VR for the past year. At first I got 4 weeks of flight training (based on FAA Manual) in the L-39 by a fine teacher. Then I flew the F-5 Tiger for a while to get a feel for really flying (no fly by wire). After a while I craved working with more advanced avionic and computer systems so recently I started training in the A10C. Flying in VR is still a "HOLY S***" experience, But I was ready for more. So I added the Jetseat which added a lot.

    THEN...

After extensive research Ive decided to really up the realism by getting a Motion System from Next Level Racing. It will consist of ...NEXT LEVEL RACING MOTION PLATFORM V3 which responds to DCS telemetry.

    http://www.nextlevelracing.com/products/next-level-racing-motion-platform-v3/

The NEXT LEVEL RACING SEAT which is light and easily installed.

    http://www.nextlevelracing.com/next-level-racing-seat-add-on/

And the NEXT LEVEL RACING FLIGHT PACK which will allow me to mount my CH HOTAS on the seat. So they will move along with me.

    http://www.nextlevelracing.com/next-level-racing-flight-pack/

The system supports DCS and tons of other flight and racing sims. Its based around the Motion Platform which is made for Next Level Racing by a Polish company that makes motion systems for business and industry. So far Ive read nothing but rave reviews of the V3 model by sim pilots and sim race car drivers. It is just a seat mover, but when I tried it out with the Rift and the DCS A10C, my brain was convinced I was flying in the real thing. Just waiting on the next shipmet tbefore the fun can start. SWEET! :pilotfly:

  10. Honestly this type of motion platform is of limited use for aircraft flying... if you are limited to two axis for flight you really want pitch and heave (z-axis up/down), not pitch and roll. Also, with the pivot point located so far below the pilot's sensors (your inner ear), changes in pitch/roll will also have false queues as your head describes an arc vs your body being rotated with your head at the axis. That is one of the main reasons 6dof platforms are used, the additional axes allow the machine to interpolate the pivot point to be at the pilot's head to minimize false motion queues.

What they are showing in the video is what is colloquially referred to as 'arcade motion' (I work in this industry). The machine is attempting to mimic craft attitudes rather than trying to mimic craft accelerations. Flying feels nothing like what they are showing in the video... coordinated flight pushes you straight down in the seat... and why roll is not generally included in real 2dof flight systems. What you really need is something that subtly but convincingly mimics accelerations... mild but accurate 'suggestions' of accel are far more convincing than machines that mimic attitude, even ones that spin all the way around and such or put focus on extreme excursion.

For a motion sim to work it doesn't need high excursions, it needs accurate ones and also req very low latency from signal to motion and the ability to operate at high frequency so it can handle what is thrown at it. Poorly thought out motion translating programs are a recipe for sim sickness due to vestibular mismatch when your eyes and inner ear disagree though, and a motion sim is only ever as good as the program driving it. There are some good stuff out there, but what is in the video is not worth it or at least not in the mode they are using it... it's possible there are other settings to allow realism.

The machine itself might be worth it to you if you also simrace, but not for flight alone imo. Not being a diy guy puts you are a disadvantage in this dept, because all of them no matter what req a lot of tinkering. Even a super rad turnkey motion platform represents a bottomless pit of tuning to your applications and understanding the hardware intimately is kind of important.

    Thanks for the detailed response!

6DOF at present prices is not even a possibility for me. Academically your thoughts may make sense. But believe me, I tried this system out in VR and the small movement cues easily fooled my brain into enjoying another layer of immersion. Is it like real flying? Of course not. Is flying a A10C desk like flying the real thing? Of course not. But is the VR flight experience enhanced...you bet your bippy :) (In my year of having crazy fun in VR I have never experienced the pukeys. So that isnt an issue for me). After lengthy research I found that other systems I can afford dont match up to the points Ive listed above (IMO)

  11. Since this is a once in a lifetime purchase for me, I am closely looking at all alternatives.

Has anyone use the Next Level Racing Motion system and DCS?

    http://www.nextlevelracing.com/products/next-level-racing-motion-platform-v3/

I am considering this as a possible alternative to the DOF Reality.Heres why...

    1. Software and hardware are well designed and manufactured

    2. Entire motion unit is hidden under chair

    3. Great seat comes with...

    4. Good in small space

    5. DCS friendly with no need to figure out setting up Simtools

    6. Seat mover, but HOTAS can connect to seat assembly

    7. Available from Amazon so any returns or fixes are easy. Less chance of product damage since its not going from Ukraine to Vegas.

Cost is ridiculous...but Im retired and can almost afford it (Not a DIY guy) ;)

  12. Really. I have been so luck with my motors.

    Can't rate them enough ;)

I highly recommend looking at a rx7 seat, a good used one is cheap as.

And the seat is Really light ;)

How much does your seat weigh so I can use that as a guide as I shop around.

  13. I actually have a Play seat on my "static" flight chair.

But its pretty crappy and uncomfortable as well.

Hopefully between now and when I order in January (to avoid the imminent Xmas shipping rush when thing are lost and broken) I will luck out and find something like your RX7 chair.

  14. Really. I have been so luck with my motors.

    Can't rate them enough ;)

Been searching for that seat here in the US. NADA. May have to settle for the one they recommended.

  15. Hey. Apologies for the late reply.

Yer I'm still rocking my chair. Nothing has gone wrong and still surprises me every time i use it ;)

The seat on mine is a made a rx7 seat....so comfy. I have the jetseat motors inside the chair (6 motors) which vibrate during flight and weapons release.

    It's a great addition ;)

Thanks man. Ive been looking here in the US for a comparable chair since the one DOF Reality suggests is just molded plastic. Bound to be hard on the butt after hours of ground pounding in the Hawg. Im holding off placing my order until I can find a relatively light and comfy one. Unfortunately 2 of my Jetseat motors died so I have to return that unit to Andre for repair or exchange.

  16. I ordered the chair as recommended from the 2DOF Motion Simulator manufacturer however any chair with a frame mounting should work.

My chair is a JEGS (Jegs.com) model 555-70200K1 - $129.99 which includes shipping.

They have a less expensive one but I also wanted a cover/pad and a sliding bracket which is also recommended by 2 DOF.

Remember to tell the 2DOF rep that you want it for flight simulation, define your seat bolt pattern dimensions, Joystick, Rudder and Pedals type and whether or not you use VR and which headset. These are the questions they came back to me with.

The Hotas mounts cost approx $50 extra from 2 DOF.

Let me know if this is helpful.

I am about to place my order for DOF Reality P2 system.

How do you like you seat? Is it comfortable on long flights? Did you use the rail sliders to provide DOF Reality with info on where to drill holes in the system? Do you use or need those racing seat belts ? Any other relevant info is appreciated. I want to get things right before I drop all that cash.
