  1. Sounds fantastic! This is what DCS needs so badly right now.

Just one note; you mentioned that the moving ground war is like making a strategy game, but in reality it isn't. At least the all-important first step isn't.

Let's take for example the Il-2 DCG. It simply has a list of units it spawns at the ends of a simple node-route track that is usually a simple line with maybe a few intersections. A bit like this: o-o-o-o=8=o-o-o. When a unit is destroyed it's placed back into the pool and beore each mission there's a random chance it will respawn at one end of the node-route network. During each mission the units move towards the opponent's end (unless there's still some abstract infantry strength left in the current node). And that's pretty much it.

Sounds deceptively simple, right? Something you'd program in a few moments? Well yes, because it's probably true. Most importantly, though, it works very well, providing thousands of hours of fun for our group since years ago. Of course there's a lot of room for improvement, but the DCG system is a very good starting point. And despite being so damned simple, it really really does work even though you probably wouldn't believe it just reading the description.

I'm not saying you need to do the ground war thing right now or even that you need to do it like the Il-2 DCG does. My point is that when you do start thinking about the ground war it's vital to not try to reach too high to begin with, it's the best way to burn yourself out and make sure the project dies. A very very simple system can work and provide lots of room to grow - and that growing is much more fun and painless when you have already kind of reached the goal and the campaign engine does what it's supposed to. After that it should be much easier on your sanity to set yourself ambitious long term goals, because you can just build on the already working system bit by bit.

I've seen too many of these projects and especially the wonderful people behind them burn out because of too ambitious initial goals. Ideally you'll one day notice that you've done a couple of games' worth work, but it all just kind of happened and you had fun all along by continuously reaching some rewarding mini-goals.

Anyway best of luck with your effort, a good dynamic campaign (engine) is the best thing that could possibly happen to DCS.

+1 what this old men says

  3. Oculus Rift in DCS: World 1.5 Overview Video

@Bunjap....did you try the new option to increase the size of distant aircraft and targets, and does it help spotting aircraft in VR?

I doubt we will have a problem reading gauges with the CV1's new dual higher resolution custom Samsung VR displays. I would imagine they will have VR enhanced pixel, sub-pixel arrangements, with less space between pixels. Combined with an Oculus custom lenses, and optimized optic software the perceived resolution might be good enough for distant objects aswell.

Rez is still too low i think, because 110degree fov, but im still first one to buy CV1. Hell, back in early 90's i was happy with 320x240 rez in simulators :D

  4. Canopy and FPS

660GTX here with 2560x1440rez and canopy glass is no problem. Mig-21 and others run fine.

And this 660 is not top class gpu anymore..

So maybe just time to get new (used?) gpu ?

750 is quite low end gpu, many features removed, its slower even compared to my gtx660

  5. Too bad the X-55 mouse "joystick" is very sub-par!

I've had TWO throttles now with crappy mouse "control". Time to get to the bottom of this.

    Disassemble... Carbon membrane switches. FFS!

Replaced with 5 way Tactile switch and some resistors. SOLID AS A ROCK. It is NOT a software driver problem if you do manage to get some mouse movement with this throttle.

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. YOU WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY.

Would like to make this too, please tell us more :)

  6. All these issues are known, many reported, I am sure they will be addressed in the future.

    Thanks, nice to know.

Maybe there should be sticky list where all known things are listed like this damage model. So no more xx Numbers of threads of same things.

  7. Feels like memory leak :/ crash after 15-30 mins of flight. Depends on mission size i think.

  8. I could have sworn that somewhere on the Russian side of the forum, thanks to Google translate, I read that they were discussing the return of the Crimea map for EDGE (1.5 or 2.0 or so). :)

IF you find that, please pm me or post here !

Would be really, i mean really nice to get old crimea back. :pilotfly:

  9. Improved Spotting

Im happy with this new impostor system, in MY SYSTEM at 2560x1440 rez it finally gives me ability to spot planes somehow close to my real life experiences. WITHOUT using zoom and with 80 degeers FOV (still bit tunel vision vs real life)

It needes still tweaking , because now if i use zoom it gets weird and makes spotting too easy.

Here i agree with SharpeXB, it is too easy when used with zoom or narov fov.

Maybe impostors should be drawn only at resonable ranges so even i zoom those wont be drawn too early / far.

Zoom should be limited somehow too, i dont have hubble telescope inside plane in real life :D

Needes tuning but its good thing to start.
