Ok guys. It's working now and v2.5 is up and running. Not the easiest program to use as it has 2 settings buttons, only one of which does anything. Also, the only way I could get it to update to 2.xx was by using the advanced settings tab. I would have thought that updating was one of its basic functions. Still, I figured it out. Just Judging by the appearance of the planes in v2, it was all worth the trouble! But why do DCS make things so difficult? Thanks for all your patience.

Was told (by DCS themselves) that you can install v2.5 to an external SSD. The question is how? It doesn’t give me the option. It just goes ahead with the C drive and then tells me there isn’t enough space, which is why I want to put it somewhere else. Please help. My shiny brand new 1TB drive is feeling rather left out!

Sorry I didn't make that clear. I have DCS 1.5.8 at the moment. There isn't enough room to upgrade to 2.XX. So i want to start from scratch and install it on an external volume. That sound like the best way to go at the moment. I may be wrong (and probably am). It looks like there isn't a Thunderbolt 3 interface, so it will have to be USB 3.1

Hi all. This is something I'm going to have to do since there's less than 100GB left on my HD. So a few questions: Is it as simple as buying an external SSD, plugging it in, then following the instructions in the previous posts above? Do you need to prepare the drive in any way, other than making sure it's formatted for Windows? Do you need to put assigns or anything like that in there to make it work? Would a Thunderbolt 3, 1TB type be sufficient? Any help greatly appreciated!

This might sound like a silly question, but can newer missions be edited in the mission editor and backsaved for older versions?
-
Fixed!!! Thank you.

I don't think there's enough HD space. What are new clouds?
-
Brilliant. Thanks. Came back to this sim after a long absence. I was sure there were training missions before!
-
Did you say it's in the general settings? I haven't found it.
-
Damn. Are there any that work on my version out there?
-
Doesn’t work. Says the mission is newer than the editor or something like that. Is it because I’ve only got v1.5.8?

Just dusted off my old X-52 pro. Now the trim works perfectly. This makes me think that the sim is getting FFB input from the Speedlink. So I'd still like to try and edit to 'FALSE' in that file that doesn't exist. Maybe I have to actually create it? You'll probably say why didn't I use the Saitek in the first place, but I was trying to ease into this and get the complicated hardware out later. Same applies to the rudder pedals. At least I'm not tasting concretes and grass so much now.
-
Thanks for all the info guys. I understand all the concepts here, but the fact is, it just don't work. Perhaps I'll try again with 'central position mode' selected. Did you say select 'rudder trim as well'? I do have a set of pedals, but I'm not using them at the moment. Small steps are needed here! Maybe I should try a different stick?
-
Hi 1) Certainly is, and you can actually hear the faint 'click click' when you press it. 2) It's a Speedlink Black Widow, which is sprung conventionally. It doesn't have FFB, but does have vibration. I did wonder if the sim is reading this as FFB? It has a twist rudder. I've tried all combinations of those options. What I've noticed is that If you unplug the stick and fly with the keyboard, the trim works properly, as expected. You're right, you shouldn't have to fiddle about with files just to get a game to work, there's scope for doing serious damage!
-
Not sure how these forums work but I'll start here. Perhaps someone can shed some light on this? I can't get that trimmer to do anything. The manual suggests editing a file called 'Producer.cfg', to turn off force feedback, but that doesn't exist anywhere. It also suggests opening a file called 'FMOptions.lua' to change the duration, but doesn't say what tool you would use to do this. If you use notepad says you don't have permission to change it. So I'm stuck. Can anyone help?

Newbie Updater problem
baldeagle611 replied to baldeagle611's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
Hi Last time I looked, this required 60 GB for a minimum install, now it's saying it wants 120 GB. What's going on here? I don't think I can spare that much. -
Newbie Updater problem
baldeagle611 replied to baldeagle611's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
Hi David I downloaded DCS_World_web. There was about 180GB of room on there before I put DCS on it. Now there's about 55 GB left. Sounds like uninstall is the best option here. I'll give that a go tonight. Thanks -
Hi I'm new to this program so simple steps please! I have DCS 1.5.8 and thought I'd update it to 2.XX now that I have a more powerful system. I downloaded the updater and ran it. It stopped with a 'server may have limited capacity. try again later'. I tried again the next day. Now it says 'Can't install to that location etc...' and 'use repair or update from menu'. I'm afraid I have no idea what it's on about. I can't find anything like that in any of the menus. Can someone help please? I wish I hadn't attempted this now. :(

fail update - server capacity may be limited
baldeagle611 replied to mastercosta's topic in Installation Problems
I've had this too. I tried again a day later. Now it's saying it can't install in that location, and try update or repair from menu. What's it talking about? Shall I just forget it and uninstall the whole of 12.5.8 and start again from scratch? Is there nothing easy with this program? -
I just backdated to version 1.2.12 and it now works like a dream, even on the the highest settings. So thanks to all. Just a shame it took so long to find out. There are obviously quite a few of us with Intel GPUs, so perhaps it would make commercial sense for Eagle to reinstate their support for them? So now my question is: What planes won't work with the backdated version? Please don't say the A-10C!
