As much info as possible will be shared My plan is to share as much info as possible. I plan to put that thing through its paces.
-
Pictures Uhm, I wasn't planing on taking pics of the image as I find them very suggestive. However if it's something people are interested in I can take pics using my macro lens on my SLR camera. That might work better than say, the camera on a cell phone.

Shipped My Xtal was shipped on the 11th. I am expecting it this week. It's in Kentucky USA right now.
-
Thanks Ah! How refreshing. Someone who gets why I'm doing it.
-
Check this out I think you need to watch this.

Hey everybody, My Xtal finally shipped yesterday. I will get it sometime next week. I will be posting an unboxing video and then a first impressions video. After, I will put the Xtal through it's paces with DCS. I'll try to post as much info as possible as I know some of you are curious about it. Stay tuned Stef

It's an embedded Leap Motion Sensor.

I suggest you look at Sweviver's video on the Xtal. He explains the way rendering is done with the Xtal. Even though it is the same resolution as the Pimax, the image quality is much better and with much less of a hit on performance. He explains it much better than I could. My PC specs should be fine. Based on his explanation. But, like you, I can't wait to get it so I can see for myself. Stefew

Yep, very expensive. And no, it's not the consumer version that's been hinted at. Lol, never been called that before.
-
All good points. But I'm getting the Xtal in September. So visuals should be no problem. I'm happy to hear you mention it's easier with the wider FoV. Thanks Stefew
-
Hey everybody, Does anybody have experience using a wide FoV headset like Pimax for checking six in a dog fight? In VR it can be tedious to check your six in a dog fight. I was wondering if a wide FoV headset makes this easier. Thanks Stef

Hi folks, I have been receiving PMs about the Xtal. I was supposed to get my unit in July. It's been delayed until September. As soon as I receive it I will post an unboxing video, a first impressions video and a full review video once I have had a chance to use it for a while. Stay tuned Stefew

Extensions The extensions are long yes. That affords me very good control for gunnery. However they don't hit the sides of the chair. I had measured everything to make sure they didn't. But they do hit my thighs. And that's not a bad thing as I know I'm close to the limits at that point. Stef

Blue spring That spring is from Sahaj. The guy who makes custom extensions for the Warthog. That spring is stiffer than the black one that comes with the stick.

T-Tracks I use Veritas T-Slot aluminium tracks from LeeValley's. Really easy to create the channel they are in by using a router. Then I use T-Bolts with wing nuts to attach the rudder pedals to the tracks. Stef:smartass:

Yes, the pedals are adjustable.
-
The invoice says July. I can't believe I'm wishing my summer away!
-
Yes the armrest is adjustable. As are most of the parts of the chair. The whole thing weighs about 300 pounds!
-
LOL, I know, the stickers are not the most popular thing on the chair. Gaudy as sin! ;)
-
Hi all, I just wanted to post some pics of my custom, made by me chair. It's made from plywood covered with black laminate. Seats are good quality vinyl sown with my industrial sewing machine. Stickers are of all my favorite aircraft. I know, tacky a bit, but I don't care. I love stickers. I can replace the TM Warthog with my Proflight Trainer Puma as everything is modular on the chair. Give me your honest opinion. I won't take offence. :) Stef

LMAO, no pressure! LMAO, no pressure at all. I can only hope I do the Xtal justice. And yes, an adventure it will be, no doubt. When I started thinking about buying one, I was hoping, even maybe expecting someone else had one and was using it for DCS or any other flight sim for that matter. Alas, it looks like I will be on my own for now. But it will be my pleasure to share my experience with all of you! Stef

Lighthouse boxes not included Hey Voight, The Lighthouse boxes are not included and have to be purchased separately. I knew that going in. Stef

Xtal paid for Good morning everybody, I received my invoice this morning and paid for the headset. Now I wait. It will be a long wait! :( Once I receive the headset, I will post a video of the unboxing and of my impressions of the build quality. Then I will proceed to some quick testing. After that I will post as much detailed information as I can. Cheers Stef

Not too concerned about vertical FOV I have watched that video before. I'm not that worried about the vertical FOV not being as wide as some of the other headsets on the market. To be honest the horizontal FOV will be so much better than anything I have experienced before that I will probably be happy enough. But thanks for pointing that out! Stef

Indeed Could not have put it better. And with the fact they are working on foveated rendering with their eye tracking (which is already in the headset) we could be looking at even better performance which to me sounds like future proofing the headset even more. At the end of the day. Even if something else comes out in a year or two I will have had the chance to help improve knowledge about the Xtal and maybe even help the sim industry as a whole. Should be a fun experience whether it's the better headset or not. Time will tell. Stef
