  1. I have a last check to do, but I think it wont work because of the light maps..

    :( oh, bad luck!

I deal with OpenVR Advanced Settings, "check six" works but sometimes the weird way, e.g. randomly moves me outside of cockpit, when pressing the button.

it has something to do with re-centering, I have workaround, but still not reliable, so I hoped for Your mod. :-)

  2. Current specs are in my sig, but to recap:

    i5-7600 (non-K); RTX2070, Odyssey Plus.

In 2D I get great performance with all most max settings, though with recent updates trees have started hitting my framerates a little.

Problem is VR: I only get solid 45fps in the air. I'm typically around 35-40 down low and when there's some action, 30-35 in resource hogs like the Tomcat while on the ramp or carrier. I usually have to turn all shadows completely off, which causes almost unplayable canopy glare in some modules and in general makes the cockpit hard to read. PD typically around 1.2, and visibility/clarity isn't that great either.

I'm looking to upgrade either my CPU to an i7-9700k (though I probably won't make use of overclocking), or my GPU to a RTX2080. The CPU upgrade looks to be the easiest on my wallet since the 2080 is around $850.....practically the total cost of my entire current rig. I'd like to get solid 45fps regardless of cities/trees/action, with shadows set to low, and maybe bump my PD up to 1.4 or 1.5. Which would offer better VR performance in DCS?

get fpsVR tool; not free, but dirty cheap and very useful when detecting the rigs bottleneck

  3. On screen I use ReShade for boost of colors and effects. DCS has ok, but I need a little more saturation for IL-2 series : ).

ask lefuneste to tune his 3dmigoto mod for you, mod has some preset color options

    or tune his mod yoursefl

anyway, we need color correction in game

  4. Has anyone tried the Blue Nosed Bastards of Bodney campaign in VR? I am getting huge stutters the 3rd mission in. I tried to use the F10 menu to reduce aircraft, not sure If I am doing it correctly..I have a good computer and don't normally have trouble in VR

yes, I did few months ago, and after I realised how horrible is Normandy optimized, stopped playing this mission very disappointed. (but still hope that Ugra pulls himself together, and fix it)

Go for the one for caucasus, it is much better regarding performance

  5. @Cavemanhead

    I have 1080Ti and Reverb -

must be said, that performance strongly depends on situation i.e SP/MP, ww2 bird/high end jet , Caucasus forest/Nevada desert, mission population etc...

    the difference is HUGE

you can fly FA18 above Nevada desert in multiplayer populated by 20+pilots and have steady 90FPS

you can sit into yak on Gulf airport with few AI singleplayer and will get stutter, because...

    ...because matter knows.. :smartass:

and I am affraid, it is regardless You wear Reverb or Rift

    That is the reality

    :)

  6. I own Spit, (besides Dora, Mess, Mustang), for more than 1,5 year now; beautiful and iconic bird, nice skins, really good fly model, but...

...but as I fly VR only, until now, I´ve spent less than ONE hour in Spit´s cockpit, only because of this issue.

In contrary, I fly all my three other ww birds pretty frequently.

one cannot beliewe, that this thread started almost three years ago..

    ...sad story

    :(:(:(

  7. A simple request for ED, but which I believe could be very usefull to a lot of VR users :

Please add a keybind to toggle the option 'Use Mouse' from the VR menu in game.

This would allow pilots to quickly switch between a fixed mouse pointer to easily activate things by looking at it (mostly during fights, where you focus more on the stick&throttle than clicking switches) and a movable mouse pointer for more relaxed phase of flight (start up for instance).

Another somewhat related request : When 'use mouse' is checked and you try to interact with the radio comms window it seems that the 'blue cross' pointer in the 3D world is offset from the 'white dot' pointer in the 2D radio comms window. This offset is not present when the cursor is fixed with 'use mouse' unchecked. It would be nice to fix this as well.

    Thank you :)

I vote for this with one extension:

in game optional switch between "exclusive mouse cursor position" and "exclusive head-tracking cursor position"

...or at least, a button "park the blue cross on this knob"

as far as i am aware, we have only "exclusive head-tracking cursor position" option.

    why?

there are rotary knobs, which needn´t be watched all the time when tunning; what more, sometimes it is better to observe the tunning effect by looking outside of cockpit (axis trims etc)

    cheers

  8. I have opposite problem: my Reverb is too bright for me, therefore have to reduce gamma to ~1.5 (or even less, depends on day time) and consequently colors became a bit over saturated

fpsVR did not work in my case, but have found another workaround: OpenVR Advanced Settings; here one can reduce brightness to acceptable level; then DCS gamma correction needn´t be so strong and colors looks natrurally

anyway, human perception can vary, device behavior can vary, we definitely need in-game color corrections, see my item on the wishlist:

  9. Eagecrash, chill buddy! My post was actually in response to another thread with the title stating that they had solved ghosting. This kind of misinformation wastes people's valuable time and money, so I wanted a clear thread for those trying to solve ghosting on the Reverb (which many have thanks to the misinformation on these forums) telling them not to bother. This came after I spent days and days trying to solve the issue, only to find it's impossible. Certain other people on these forums don't help the matter, claiming it's other users' computers at fault, and that their game runs perfectly with no ghosting issues.

You did actually claim that you had solved ghosting when messaging me, stating things like: "This could very well be why you're having ghosting on yours. I haven't found this to be the case...Its only the nature of reprojection if you're over-taxing the processor...the Su-27 looks just fine in the merge when I'm in the F-14... I'm very familiar with what ghosting looks like...Doesn't happen with the Reverb"

This is why I asked you to run VRfps so I could verify your subjective observations with objective facts. Unfortunately you didn't, so I spent considerable time trying to replicate your non-ghosting. Turns out this is impossible, at least when running the Reverb at its native resolution - I'm not going to try lower, as I could have stuck with my Vive Cosmos to run at those resolutions.

I totally understand if you don't perceive ghosting like many of us do. Perhaps some of us have higher-attuned visual systems due to long-term gaming that makes us more sensitive to this? (I know gamers are indeed susceptible to noticing visual flaws more than non-gamers, as I did an experiment on the LCD projector rainbow effect with a test-group, but I digress). Regardless, I envy you for not being bothered by this - but it could also be due to the fact that you don't fly fighters and don't dogfight, making you less prone to being in situations where it's extremely obvious. I can say that for those of us who dogfight at WVR, the ghosting is pretty damn atrocious. Nothing like seeing an Su-27 warp right on by, with a ghost-like second aircraft a metre behind it! I don't think it's overly critical to point out such a fundamental issue.

As for what settings I ran my tests in, I used the F-14 in numerous places - the F-14 carrier take-off training mission, the F-14 runway takeoff quick mission, and F-14 dogfight quick mission - and using the following test settings, other than running the Reverb at its native resolution via SteamVR's setting panel:

    • All in-game settings low, but I didn't disable shadows (kept them at low)
    • All in-game settings high
    • A mixture of high and low, lowering those that had the biggest impact on frametime (not fps)

Turns out the difference between low and high is about 45fps in low to 36fps in high - and even at 45fps, reprojection is enabled automatically (remember, the game must hit 90fps to match the 90Hz of the HMD to disable reprojection). I also tried the F-16 and F-18 in various scenarios to see if their less detailed models would still cause terrible performance - they do. I'm not sure about the A-10 though; given it's a decade old old model, I'd wager that it has slightly better performance, but would still suffer from performance issues.

The reason I mention my experience is to show that I'm used to testing these things scientifically, with results that can be replicated and terminology that everyone can understand. I know the importance of sharing factual, correct information, as people read it and then use it to make decisions on how they spend their time and money. When people spread incorrect information, it can lead to others wasting their time, or becoming frustrated trying to solve an impossible problem.

Anyway, as I said, your inability to see ghosting is fantastic. Unfortunately, ghosting is a real problem for Reverb users, whether the player is one of the few who doesn't see it or not, and existing owners and potential buyers of the Reverb shouldn't chase a rainbow trying to fix it. (bolded so that those looking for a Reverb ghosting fix don't get caught up in all the guff on this thread!). While this is a problem, DCS VR remains a fantastic way to fly around scenery at altitude, but falls apart in the nitty gritty of dog-fighting.

Oh, btw, the reason the game slows down when you have external video feeds on your HMDs is that it has to re-render each of those zoomed in areas , thus massively increasing the geometry load on your PC. Hope that helps.

would You be so kind to show us screenshot including fpsVR graph from situation where you see "unacceptable ghosting" ?

(free SU would be better, as everyone can reproduce it)

  10. wju, as far as I can tell, there is NO WAY TO DISABLE PROJECTION ON WMR DEVICES. It is not as simple as ending a process...

hmm, I am really unsure where is reprojection calculated and also wonder, that no one can answer, just guess or speculation (like i do ).

Everyone is smart like TV, but evidence based valid info is lacking.

Based on my last readings on microsoft pages, I quess, the reprojection is calculated on GPU, but really guessing.
