Just tested and the 120b can be fired and seems to work fine.

Just updated to latest open beta build and wanted to see the changes to the Hornet hud. While the tint is better a nasty darkish band shows up now. See attached screenshot. Anyone else having this issue ? Repair didn't change anything. No mods enabled.

They merely forgot to add the "Open Beta" in their post, mate. I just updated open beta branch to 2.5.2.20036 from 2.5.2.19682. Also see 'This week, July 25th, will be a merge to Stable, and the next update to Open Beta should be August 1st. Thanks! EDSA Team.'

But stable got updated with the u7 fixes last week. This weeks update is for open beta, so the inital question is still valid.
