Pitch UP when Carrier Launch with Auto Flap
Nansaram replied to backspace340's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
You do not realize yet. You are talking to ED customer not a royalty. Please try it with yourself, I will not try FA-18 anymore until ED release formal version. I'm not a beta tester, and quite fatigue to argue with irrational behavior of ED product. I spent some hours of my personal two nights for this irrational high pitch up recovery test and trim control switch bug. I prefer reading full ED manual of formal release to testing early access with looking up NATOPS next time. So, I will not buy Early access beta or alpha version anymore. No need to reply it's my last post of this thread. -

All of these posts are OPINIONS. you should not regards them as irrational we also provide EVIDENCE not only you. And there are still too many Goalposts! -

Hey, how fly hornet is not by FCS but by Pilot. You should write down to your hornet manual about Natops's And, My stick Switch is OK. It never fails before. My stick is VKB Gunfighter Pro MKII. And stop insulting to who report the irrational behavior of ED product. They including me spent own time to fix your product. We are the customer not the opponent. -
Pitch UP when Carrier Launch with Auto Flap

What a great video. The flap is 0 on the ground in takeoff. It means it is Auto Flap mode! And it recover easily... ED should see it and ask to that pilot about why he did not follow the correct procedure! -

Wow, what a many posts after.... I tested again last night about 40min just this trim bug or issue. I think all of you include me, did not test it enough before. I found that Elevator Trim in Auto Flap mode is work at the plane is fast or slow. my previous report about not work in high speed is wrong. But, I found another bug instead that that elevator trim is not work sometimes whether plane is fast or even in slow. It means the trim SW is not work, when you push and hold(quite strange trim..), sometime the trim indicator and pitch is not move. You can find it easily when you test more than some minutes. About 30% or more in testing it happens. So, my conclusion of Auto Flap trim is, it works and we should push and hold it because it's movement is so so so small. I think ED should check that small amount of movement is rational. And, it has a bug that sometimes the elevator trim is not work in Auto Flap mode. It is obvious. I tested enough time. -

Okay please try and let me know the result. As far as I know, modern airplane operate Autopilot using trim control. So, I think it should be work to trim to 0G or +2G only using trim control. But maybe it have different Gain value to the specific airplane. -

If real aircraft did so, ED should let us know that special kind of operation with it's manual. That is quite special and unique if so. You can check to your real FA-18 pilots. -

I'm just conventional Flight Simulator Pilot. Trim is trim. And Trim should trim the plane's maneuver at any time any speed. Roll trim is always work. any time any speed. It also connect as a bias to FCS. I don't know the exact speed number, but maybe 350kts more, you can check it. -

I have a reason to use pitch trim. I want to gradually go up or go down my plane without stick input in High Speed Auto Flaps mode. It did not work at that time. Pitch trim only work in the auto flap mode when the plane go slow. Please test and reply. -
Pitch UP when Carrier Launch with Auto Flap
Nansaram replied to backspace340's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Yes I know the trim is just bias of the FCS. But my mean is Pilot don't care, We just care the trim button is work or not. My test result is, the elevator trim is not work in high speed, Why? And in the low speed it work very slow than Half flap or Full flap, Why? We just want to trim the plane's movement using the trim key. Is there is no situation and no need in the High speed Auto Flap? no way... That is why I wrote, I am quite good at DCS Mirage 2000C either, And Falcon4.0 before. I know what FCS did. -

Thanks for the good explain. That is what I wanted. But my first question is, pitch trim control is for the pilot not the FCS it should not change the amount of movement even when changing the flap mode. Not the whole elevator control function, just elevator trim function. Please consult you real pilot friends. Remember, at the beginning of this post, everybody knew that pitch trim does not work in Auto Flap mode. That is also wrong. Not only me. I catch many things from these posts except some too aggressive posts. -

Okay Okay, For MECH, I don't care, that is not my interest. Maybe I'm wrong about MECH. That is the sideway. But, Auto Flap and Trim control, And Stuck of the Flaps in AUTO Flap launch is the problem that I said. Whatever it caused, the result is same. I tried yesterday night my time, First, Your Key binding is the problem, The Trim key is set already but not work, I set again same key it works. Second, In Autoflap mode, the elevator trim is not work in the high speed, only work in the low speed and the amount is very little movement. Why the elevator control function is chain to flap control? Third, When the Flap is stuck in Auto Flap launch, just cycle the Flap mode can not recover. you have to gear down and up also needed. Everybody try to fix high AOA with first just reset the trim and next try to change flap. Nobody try gear down. That is the normal human thought and that is the what I report. Please test your system and reply. And Please let me know where of the U.S. Navy F-18 NATOPS Flight Manuals's that said the elevator trim's movement in Auto flap mode is very little and only work in the low speed. PS : We are human that is the why we take off sometimes in Auto flap mode. You said Just follow the procedure that is no problem? Talk to the real FA-18 pilot. -

Nansaram replied to backspace340's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
No no... MECH means just "mechanically", There is no backup control in FA-18... "There is no mechanical lateral trim." in last words in manual... In Auto mode, I press tens of times and press hold some minutes. but no respond. it meas no work. may be the FCS number could be changed but may be the gain must be too low. Make the trim for pilot, not the FCS... please -

Again, The manual said "Little if any pitch trim is required in the auto flap up mode due to the automatic trimming functions within the flight control computers. In MECH, pitch trim moves the control stick fore and aft, changing the stick neutral point. There is no mechanical lateral trim." FCS function is same as your Mirage or F-16 Falcon4.0 or Janes FA-18 some years ago. Just make the trim SW work in Auto Flap mode. Please -

Correct procedure is important, but nobody want to die just flap sw to auto. It is military plane. Not a sports plane. And if the trim SW is work as in half flap, no problem. Simple. Correct the Bug! -

I don't agree with the pitch trim movement is different in Flap mode. Trim Switch is for pilot not FCS. -

Thanks for good information. in F-18 NATOPS Flight Manuals, "2.10.1.3 Weight-On-Wheels (WOW) System. The aircraft may then quickly undergo an uncommanded pitch up which is caused by the large stabilator deflection present at takeoff. Normally, the stabilator deflection would be trimmed out automatically by the flight control system. As airspeed increases, the uncommanded pitch up rate increases. Maintaining irspeed as slow as practical helps control nose pitch up and assists in lowering the aircraft’s nose." Yes, I understand the abrupt pitch high condition, but my report is it can not trim down in auto flap mode, and gear down/up, flap full/auto can reset the abnormal trim up. In, NATOPS "Above 180 knots, full forward stick alone does not stop aircraft nose up rotation, so nose down trim is required to regain control of the aircraft. The FLAP switch should also remain in HALF since the pitch up rate increases if the FLAP switch is moved to AUTO." The manual does not say the trim SW is not work in AUTO Flap mode. it said half flap just help to normal flight. "2.8.2.2.5 Pitch and Roll Trim Switch. Little if any pitch trim is required in the auto flap up mode due to the automatic trimming functions within the flight control computers. In MECH, pitch trim moves the control stick fore and aft, changing the stick neutral point." It said, pitch trim is just little required in Auto Flap mode, does not said not functional. Did you catch What I issued? The trim SW should be work in Auto Flap mode to stabilize the abnormal pitch up. Half Flap just help it. -
Pitch UP when Carrier Launch with Auto Flap
Nansaram replied to backspace340's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Modern Fighter FCS is quite great thing but it does not detect very slow drift of movement of controlled surface. It means, if plane rotate or rise or go down very slowly, the FCS does not know, only pilot know. That is why trim SW is exist in fly-by-wire system. So, the elevator trim should be work properly even in Auto Flap mode, as aileron trim work. -

Please try and test again. I certainly Gear Up after Auto Flap launch. But still too much AOA in Gear UP state. -
Pitch UP when Carrier Launch with Auto Flap
Nansaram replied to backspace340's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Auto Flap is just Auto control the Flap. Elevator Trim is trim the elevator control not the flap. That is why you can trim elevator or aileron even in auto flap mode. If your hornet can not control elevator trim in auto flap mode, it must be another bug. -
I know to use half flap in carrier launch, or shore take off, But using Auto Flap in Takeoff, The pitch go too much high and was not effected trim down. It fly with pitch high trimmed state and can not be trim down. I mean, The FA-18 Hornet fly with too much AOA angle when Flap Auto take off and can not be manage to AOA angle down with pitch trim down key. Only have to do is, gear down and up and flap full and auto. it reset the trim. I think it must be a bug.
