As much as I have tested both Symantec and McAfee over every single Windows OS with every single version of each anti-virus program, I hate to say that they all still suck. They still have too much overhead and are way too intrusive on performance, etc. in my opinion. So over the past year, I finally succumbed to Microsoft Onecare, which isn't nearly as robust as the above apps, but at least I can funtion on my pc without any real performance degradation.

The main reason you should consider a 64-bit OS, whether it be XP64 or Vista64, is that you can address more than 3GB of RAM. 32-bit OS's can only address 3GB of RAM. And given the ongoing need for memory utilization, this is really not even a question, i.e. get Vista64, period. I have been using Vista64 for a year and have not had any real program incompatiblity or driver issues. I am a microsoft partner and MCSE, and have been a network engineer for 20 years. You will be way better off going with Vista64 now and soon you will be going with Windows7-64.

Help please!! How can i control Shkval with mouse axis?
pbsmgm replied to CarlosFLY's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
You don't need the pro to do this because both X52s will use the same profile editor. So just make sure you have the latest editor and play around with the mouse settings as both macros and keyboard commands in the profile and you might be able to get it working. http://saitekforum.com/showthread.php?t=16643 just download this editor because you will need this latest version. -
Help please!! How can i control Shkval with mouse axis?
pbsmgm replied to CarlosFLY's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I have tried what you are wanting to do, and I am pretty certain you cannot control the Shkval with the mouse axis. However, I think you can control movement by assigning mouse buttons to left, right, up and down. This is within the control config in the game. But....What joystick are you using? If it's the X52Pro, you can add the commands to the mouse axis on the controller through a profile. Or you can assign movement in the profile based on mouse movements. But unless you have a decent joystick that allows you to configure functions outside the game, I don't think you'll get it to work. And unfortunately, the mouse buttons have a lot of problems when assigned within the DCS controls. I have had problems and have read many other threads of people having problems. So the quickest test is to go into the controls of the game, go down to KU-31 Shkval movements up, down, left and right, then highlight the mouse column, click on add, and try to add a different mouse button to each direction and see if you can even get that to work. I could not get that to work, so I have assigned almost all commands through my X52 Pro profile. The only commands I use within the game is for POV1 looking all around. -
ok, no problem..your help is appreciated because I am much better off now anyway. Thanks again.

It's working great...I am using Notepad++ and am at an optimal size of about 1850 x 1100 with the actual resolution being 1920x1200. However, I hate to ask another one.....but which line item in this file is for the position of the window. The sizing of it has a tendency to go one way. Or does a position like center position exist in that file? I have looked through the whole file and cannot find it.
-
Thx...you are fast :) I am trying this now and will let you know.
-
Does anybody know where I can configure the window size manually for the game itself. I have a 1920x1200 27" LCD and even though 1680 x1050 allows me to multitask, I would like for the window to be larger than that on my screen. If I go with 1920 x 1200 then in essence it is full screen and I cannot mutitask. So like other games and programs, within a config.ini type file..in Microsoft FSX it is in the FSX.cfg file, there is an area to manually enter your window size to fit it with your own custom size. So this would also allow me to increase my resolution on the window up to what I can produce at 1920x1200 yet I can make the window smaller than my entire screen so I can do other things. So the question is, is there a config file where I can customize the size of the overall game window?

I'll keep working with it. I am using the X52 Pro and will go through another calibration. And per the stationary over a particular spot on the earth, I agree and have made sure it wasn't my eyes seeing the ground go by when it wasn't. I monitor the changes on my coordinance on the ABRIS and it changes constantly.
-
There is something else going on because even if I line up the HUD to center everything, trim it perfectly with a airspeed of ZERO on the indicator, and I activate the hover, I am cruising forward at around 10 even though the indicator says ZERO. That's the main point too. Why does the indicator say ZERO and yet I am moving forward at around 10. The pitot tube should be identifying an airspeed and it is not.

ok, thanks everyone for the comments. First, I do simply mean holding the BS parallel with the ground vs needing the nose 30 degrees up most of the time and try to establish a good LOS for the target area from there. Secondly, I don't think it is nature that is causing this drift. After all, isn't the hover mode suppposed to make adjustments to hold a position no matter what the external factors are within reason? I am using the standard autopilot features on: Bank, Pitch, Yaw and Alt are lit up, RD and DH are selected and FD is off. And when I press hover, the overhead lights R-Alt Hold and Auto Hover come on just fine. Yet, I need to constantly fight the drift forward with keeping the nose pitched up nearly 30 degrees. In fact, I pretty much have to fight it constantly to keep it at the hover activated position. In other words, the position does not hold at all for hover.
-
I have tried hundreds of times to fully engage the the hover and have it hold a position. I have a pretty good understanding of the autopilot features, etc. And when I get to a point where I want to hover, first I have to slow the BS down drastically by pulling the cyclic back to bring the nose up 45 degrees for a long time (over a minute) just to get the airspeed down to zero....even though I am only going about 10-15. Then, even though the airspeed says ZERO, and I am engaged in full hover mode, the drift forward is significant. My guess is about 5 even though the airspeed indicator says zero. I then need to pull the nose up almost 30 degrees just to hold my position all the while I am fully engaged in hover mode. In essence, the hover mode does not hold a position. This also brings me to the question, is it even possible to hover with the nose down enough to have a line of sight onto a target without the BS cranking up to 10-15...as it does every time I try it, even though I am in hover mode?

Does anyone have a rough idea when the printed manual will be released. I would buy one in a heartbeat vs everyone's claim that printing it is just as good...sure, yea right.
-
ok, thx. I was aware of those, but since I cannot hide the cyclic, I was hoping for something like a snap view to quickly snap a view of the center panel in flight so I can quickly see all the settings.
-
I would like for you to indicate what keyboard shortcuts you are talking about?
-
Is there any way to hide the cyclic in the cockpit view so I can see the center panel better? You can do this in MS FSX and it helps a lot. Although in the manual it says this, so I am assuming it is not possible: Due to the position of the panel, you may need to move the cyclic out of the way or use keyboard commands to access the functions. So if the only way to view the center panel is to move the cyclic, then how do we disengage the cyclic while in flight to view the panel...if possible?

thx...all I have to do is hit esc twice and that does it. I don't have to worry about the padlock at all. Thanks.

X52 Pro vs Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS
pbsmgm replied to pbsmgm's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
This is the T.Flight http://www.thrustmaster.com/product.aspx?ProductID=149&PlatformID=5 -
For anyone out there trying to decide between these two HOTAS joysticks, it is a hands down win for the X52 Pro. I have had the T.Flight for two months and thought that it was going to provide enough capabilities for the Black Shark. Well I got the Black Shark a month ago. But I have worked and worked and worked on the T.Flight to customize enough functions to fly the Black Shark and it is not capable, period. I have so many macros created on my keyboard and have utilized assigments on my mouse all at the same time to get enough functions on the T.Flight so I can even fly The BS efficiently and effectively. I was able to use it relatively well with Microsoft FSX because there are no fighting functions in FSX. I just gave up on the T.Flight yesterday and got the X52 Pro. And within 30 minutes of setup, my life is 100 times better and my flight is soooo much more effecient. So I can say hands down it is worth the extra $100 based on the T.Flight costing $50 and the X52 Pro costing $150. The bottom line is get the X52 Pro if you are trying to decide between these two HOTAS.

Yep, not having the WCS switch on was the problem....Thanks everyone!

I should say too convenient to really learn all the controls, etc.
