Russian dominance in flight sim development
pbsmgm replied to Lav69's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Speaking for the Americans, I can say your perception of us is just about as pathetic as American Idol, HAWX and Guitar Hero. And you don't even know HAWX has nothing to do with America. But Hey, throw the it all in on America. The other things are a joke too. Do you even play an instrument yourself. Have you read any history books. Do you live here? Do you have a clue as to anything other than what you see on TV and read in the news, which is all driven by liberal nutjobs, about the majority of our culture. I have played classical, flamenco, jazz and blues on the guitar for over 35 years (I am 41 now) and I agree that Guitar Hero is for lazy KIDS who don't want to take the time. But quit saying the Americans don't want to take the time. I could play circles around you on the guitar. I agree the new generation might not want to take the time..but even so, there are many good, very good, youth players as well as what American guitarists have contributed to the world in music that you are not even mentioning. Additionally, I own 4 businesses and work about 120 hours per week. I have many employees and have done everything right without greed and am still getting hammered by the economy because of greed from what a very small fraction of Greed on Wall St created....But it's NOT "those Americans." In fact, I bet I work two to three times harder than you. And all that greed is going on in Europe too and eveywhere else. You just don't focus on any other news obviously...but all you see is the TV. Why don't you learn what's really going instead of just say "oh, those Americans" you don't have a clue. Lastly, I have been a network engineer and am extremely astute with PCs since the mid 70s and I love Flight Sims adn the more real they are the better. And I love learning aviation and so do many Americans. In fact, everyone I know here in America has a high desire to learn. I wish you would stop watching TV and actually learn about "those Americans" when you don't have a clue. -
The external modeling done on the Ka-50 itself is worth every dime of the price and that should make up your mind. And on top of that, you get the actual learning and understanding that goes along with knowing the Ka-50, which is incredible. This sim is abolsolutely the best one on the market right now. Every single time I get into the cockpit and fire it up, and then view it externally, I am absolutley stunned at how awesome this sim is....and yes, I get that feeling every single time. And all the textures, buildings, trees, military units, and civil units are fine and very nice graphically too but they are not really the focal point. What you are getting here is an unbelievable Ka-50 simulation experience with weaponry and true study simulation functionality every time you fly. I don't want to sound like a salesman, but you will not regret getting this sim because it is awesome.

In the manual it states Inner Outer or all....And I am not getting the release with any of those settings.
-
ok, thanks everyone for giving me a new term......But can we now actually answer the question? Thanks.
-
I am assuming you mean the "release weapon" button. But I am asking for the config because I cannot get a bomb to drop wheather I hold it or not, which is the premise of my question. In essence, what is the config?
-
I can employ ATGMs, Rockets and Cannons just fine. But I cannot seem to drop one single bomb. What is the config to drop a bomb? I am sure it's a simple question.

Juddering zoom with x-52 Axis
pbsmgm replied to McVittees's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I use the slider. And to prevent the judders on the slider, I created a rather large dead zone so that there are basically three stable settings to minimize the amount of judders. But I went through this rigorously with the X52 Pro and determined the zoom should NOT be done with the X52 profile. It needs to be configured in the slider axis in DCS to zoom. Notice the dead zones at the max zoom in and out. They are there so when you slide all the way in one direction, the judders are gone while you hold that zoom position. I also inverted the axis from its default to match zoom in and out with the slider. Of course, you can adjust it to your liking but here is the base settings. Attached Thumbnails -
Russian cockpit images used in English printed manual
pbsmgm replied to MadTommy's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Yes, and I do agree with that point. I really don't have an issue overall myself in the cockpit matching anything up from the manual. So my point really has nothing to do with matching the manual with the cockpit. I am just talking about sitting down and trying to understand things without the sim at hand, i.e. just trying to study the manual. -
Russian cockpit images used in English printed manual
pbsmgm replied to MadTommy's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I agree with MadTommy and Big_Les. I have never understood that for the sake of realism, we need to suffer learning the sim. I mean, we bought the English version of the sim because the sim is complex enough...let alone learning Russian at the same time. ALL these conversations would HALT if one buys the English Black Shark, they get an English Cockpit, English Manual with English lables. And if one buys the Russian version, they get a Russian Black Shark, Russian Cockpit with a Russian Manual with Russian Labels. Its as simple as matching the sim with the language it represents when the person spending their hard earned money wants to learn the sim in the language they choose....If you ask me, the people that don't seem to be cooperating are the ones that want to mix and match English versions with Russian labels...and Russian cokpits with English manuals and English and Russian this and that.....WTF. They are the culprits causing all the chaos. -
Wow, that's an excellent solution. I can only hope the new manual coming out has a PDF file too. And since there are almost twice the number of pages, more than likely doing this for the new manual will cost at least $150. I have to think about that for a few...

F4 is the lookback view per the View settings of the key commands.

Printed Black Shark Manual Purchase, North America

Russian Lables Per ED: We will also be be using the Russian cockpit labels for the cockpit images (same as PDF version). I just have to say that I am extremely disappointed and cannot believe that the labels will still be in Russian. I would have paid the extra $20 for a $50 manual with English lables for an English manual. Nevertheless, the content looks very good and comprehesive, so I am excited about that. I just wish so much we could get an English manual with English lables. -
SinandGrin...yes, you need to add deadzones. And my guess is you didn't configure the slider correctly since you believe it is considerably worse than the rotary. Please reference the config of my thumbnail screenshot above and notice I had to invert it too. The slider is easy to access all the time. And if you are zooming almost constantly throughout the session, then the slider is considerably better than the rotary because of it ease of use and location.

lol...I looked upon that button as "replaying" something that was more of live replay function, so I never even thought about it being the location to activate demo files. Even though I am becoming quite good at this sim and have spent hundreds of hours on it now, I have to apologize for such a simple question. Thanks. BTW, This is absolutely the best sim in the WORLD, in my opinion, for home pc simmers. I want to thank ED for providing us with this sim. And amid all the people's complaints about ED needing to do this and that, we should all simply applaud the fact that we even have the Ka-50. Granted, I would like to see the Apache sooner than the A-10C, but I surely don't want to complain because I am certain ED is doing their best for ALL of us. Nevertheless, and I know this is trivial, but I do think a better name for that button is DEMO rather than REPLAY or maybe DEMO/REPLAY. Thanks.

I noticed in the Ka-50\Missions\Demo folder there are additional .trk files. Since the extension is the same as the training files, I was wondering if I could view these mission demos similar to a training demo. However, in the Training mode or anywhere else in the game, I don't see a way to open these demo mission .trk files. Can someone point me to this function if it is possible? Thx.
-
ok, thanks. I'll check it out. But from what I gather it is more of a cheat than a real function of the Ka-50, correct? If it is a cheat, then I'll probably keep it off and never use it.....but I will at least check it out.

Can somebody direct me to a good description/link of padlock? I decided when I got DCS:BS that I was only going to play in sim mode in order to force myself to learn the hard way. I am pretty good now but am curious if I am missing something with padlock.
-
Yes...thank you very very much ED. I will be posting rave reviews on as many sites as possible because we need to keep sims as good as this one alive and well. And even though I am a frugal person, I have no problems paying another $50 for the manual or even buying it twice if needed to help support the direction, R&D, and innovation of DCS/ED/Ka-50/A-10C and hopefully more to come.... This sim is absolutely worth every penny and we all need to help keep it alive. Thank you ED very much.

Printed Black Shark Manual Purchase, North America
pbsmgm replied to Wags's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
You don't understand that the reference...should I say it again, reference of this entire vote is for North America. What does that mean to you. It means English to me. And if this was a reference to Russian, then I would say hey...I'd like it to stay the way it is in English...when referencing Russian, which is how you are relating to this topic. It has nothing to do with you voicing your opinion...it has everything to do with you understanding what you are making comments about...i.e. a North American version, i.e. English. -

Why DCS needs full 64 bit support so badly?
pbsmgm replied to Distiler's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Last I checked sales right NOW/current economic conditions is not the same as sales for future developement/future economic conditions, which is what we are discussing here. We are not going to stay in economic doldrums forever. And for any buiness to STOP all development of future products because of an economic downturn would kill the business in the long run. -
Why DCS needs full 64 bit support so badly?
pbsmgm replied to Distiler's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I wish (no names for diplomacy) people would simply move forward in technology like clearly DCS is doing with 64bit technology. I applaud and praise DCS for not being so diplomatic and moving forward with 64bit in a timely manner. Let the weak wallow in old technology. So if you don't have the funds to move forward with current technology, then get out of the boat or get another job and let the rest of us move forward! Home Built: i7-920 OC@3.2Ghz, 6GB DDR3, ATI 4970 X2 2GB, Vista64...soon to be upgraded..:) -
I failed to mention that my comments were based on mainly Symantec Internet Security.
