The new stable version with maxed out settings runs without any issues very fluidly in VR.

The recently updated Open Beta introduced heavy stuttering and lag even on the lowest settings.

This is per se not a problem at all for me, since we have got now a stable version with MT.

    Windows 10, NVIDIA Drivers 531.61

I thought I would try rolling back to the latest stable 2.8.4.39731 to validate your findings: It's possible that the stuttering is a little less on my system (OpenXR HP Reverb with Reprojection running on a 12900KF and a 3080ti) but it is still present to be honest.

I have only had a chance to fly in a few different scenarios of high demand both single player and MP for a total of perhaps 20 minutes.

Be great if we could get some further discussion from ED regarding the stuttering, Multi-threading generally and progress toward Vulcan.

Ok, a little more explanation:  Say your HMD is set at 90hz, this means that in order to have a smooth video, you need your system to pump more than 90 frames per seconds.  If your system can't keep up and your FPS drops below 90, then you get stutters.  MR or reprojection or smart smoothing, whatever it is called by your HMD maker, will insert frames to ensure the FPS never droppes below 90 using different techniques to predict how the next frame should look like if dropped because to system can't keep up.

If you are a time traveler and have a 7090, then you absolutely don't need MR anyway.😉

Ok so you're talking about a solid 45 fps with Aero's MR on. I was under the understanding that you were getting 90fps with it off. All good, how is the MR in the Aero? I know it wasn't that long ago that it was introduced.

I have't ruled out the Aero but I'm interested to see how the first impressions of this Crystal are as it looks pretty good to me.

  3. I have two versions of DCS instaled, one for VR Multi-thread and one for VR single thread. When I first opened V2 of the Way I used the ST version in VR and all was well. I observe that when I now try to use the MT version that I although the way shows that I am connected to DCS FA18 Hornet in the top LHS of the app, I cannot use the CTRL+SHIFT+S to save a wayoint in this branch of DCS, it is now only working in the ST version.

Do I need to set it up on both independetly and if so, how?

  4. For those of us that are sufficiently comfortable with VR, the critiques in the above review may seem nothing to worry about but for those that hear how much potential this headset has and buys it as their first VR experience, it could be a handful.

I’m all in FWIW but, I think she makes some good points about the user interface.

Important to note - these well known "youtubers" have to sign an NDA with Pimax that they can not reveal certain - well let's say aspects - of the current unit they are reviewing.

It will be more interesting  to see real world comments from real world users that actually buy this thing and plan  on using it on a regular basis.

In the meantime this is just Pimax doing business the same old Pimax way.

Are you sure that they have to sign an NDA in this respect. I believe one of them at least has paid full price for one of these units, I don’t think I’d be signing anything if that were the case.

Pimax does discuss on their Discord page discounts that may be open to people that promote their products with incentives for more followers such as small discounts per purchase.

Broadly I agree with you that more clearly objective reviews are better than not, I’d just want to be clear about what agreements others may or may not have.

  6. I’m Guessing they’ve been slowed up because they’ve found some problems that need solving but their comms are lousy. If they informed people what the issue was they’d have some buy in.

I’m hoping to will be a great product but there’s very little way of knowing at this point.

I do have stutters in a self created scenario based on the PG-Map... there is not really much going on. But in Multicore it stutters while in Singlecore it doesnt

Same that's what most of us seem to be finding.

  8. It is a known issue as ED has said, it would be pleasing to hear some things that they are considering though going forward for example; do they know the most likely reasons for the stutters and are working on fixes or are they still looking for more data and if so what information is best.

I have no doubt that these problems are not easy to fix but there is a whole community here invested in fixing these problems, more communication would be awesome.

This is quite similar to what I see. All is smooth and when moving my head into some busy areas or towns there are stutters. After 1 second or so looking into that direction the stutters disappear also when slightly moving the head. The stutters come up again when looking into another problematic area.

Same here. 12900KF and 3080ti using VR and MT with latest patch and NVIDIA drivers with OpenXR, reprojection on, and the following in game settings

I can't see the picture you have apparently attached. Will this new map have night portable (kerosene) lighting. I ask because some of the mods coming out, in time, such as the Lancaster were night bombers in the main. It would be a great resourcse if possible.

  11. I would be keeping my eye on the Pimax Crystal, all indications so far are that it is likely to be the best option out there provided you have the gear to run it. The level of whinging that goes on about the company, albeit well behing their own timetables, is directly proportional to the high expectation that many of us have in them to deliver a very high end product.

Can't guaruntee anything at all but I think given how close they now are to release, you would be crazy not to give some more reviews a look. There's already a few reviews available though.

    See what you think

  12. You're going to have a lot of fun, it is the only way to sim in my view. It is involved but Google and Youtube will be your friend.

I think that the Reverb is a great place to start, I have one also, however it is certainly not "future proof" for that I would consider holding off and condisering the Pimax Crystal which was due to release in the third quarter of last year. Some reviewers have them in hand now albeit not feature complete and there are some genuine questions that need to be answered or addressed in terms of battery pack requrirements even while connected to PC in addition to realistic system requirements, particularly CPU and GPU for DCS (very demanding in VR although less so with multi threading now available in it's early iteration).

For both of the above you will need a decent system, I get great performance with my 12900KF and 3080Ti and a HP Reverb, I've had both G1 and G2 (Theyre very close in terms of everything but the tracking is better in the G2)

  13. Can anyone tell me if the Varjo Aero needs an upsampling at all with its aspheric lenses?. I ask because I am under the impression that it does not need upsampling to compensate for the barrel distortion in the same way that the Fresnel lenses on the HP reverb do. This alone could be a massive game changer

I am still considering the Pimax Crystal for the same reason. By my calculations, you could potentially be pushing 18% less pixels on the Pimax Crystal than you are on the Reverb, if it does not need upsampling that it. ………

  14. My results from MT are excellent in terms of roughly halving the CPU frame time peaks. (12900KF) Unfortunately that hasn’t translated in to much of an improvement, perhaps a little, in terms of what gets rendered because my 3080ti seems to be the limiting factor. It seems to me that the big performance gains will only arrive after load can be shifted from the GPU back to the CPU.

That sounds obvious, I know, however is there someone that knows what they’re talking about that would care to shed some light on how that transfer might happen because from what I can see both Vulkan and DLSS look to be tinkering around with CPU also but I’m not in IT and am happy to be disabused of that perspective……

I have G2 with Steam version of DCS. You can remove the command line now as MT Preview does it for you.

Make sure you have latest version of OpenXR Toolkit, 1.2.4 think. Run reprojection from there.

Just had another look at the Multithread FAQ and it does say that we still add the force enable line at to the shortcut, although I just ran multithread without it and it seemed to work fine. Is there something I am missing?
