  1. Does anyone have a before and after video for the sound effect change? I'd like to compare.
  2. ctrl+pause key, if I remember correctly.
  3. Very true. I'll probably end up waiting. I was just a little disappointed when I went to practice a case 1 landing and things started to drop in frames (high 20s to mid 30s) whenever I would look at the carrier. (In VR) I don't want to turn the dpi down too much because then things get hard to read. And I am already turning down quite a few things in the game settings. Moreover, SteamVR has shrunk my resolution to 83%. So, even outside of DCS, I'm not getting the most out of my Index. And for flat games, I wouldn't mind getting over 100 fps on my 1440p monitor to take advantage of that screen, too. Overall, I think I'm just hitting a fidelity vs. fps wall (to a noticable point) finally on my GTX 1080. I could go to an RTX 2080 or a 2080 super. But then I'm already spending money and wasn't sure if I should just push it to the next level. But I'll have to do more research, I think. Thank you for your input, though! I appreciate it greatly!
  4. Those are fair points. Any additional thoughts/opinions from others? Looking at benchmarks in VR and pancake games, it seems like a fairly large jump from a regular gtx 1080. So, I guess that is part of what is enticing me. But I do also acknowledge the fact that there may be a newer generation in a year or so. Frustrating. Hahaha :P
  5. So, those who have made the jump to RTX 2080ti, I'm wondering if I should be doing the same and if the upgrade would be worth it, specifically for VR. Current machine: i7 6700K OC to 4.4 32GB RAM at 3000 Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 G1 Gaming edition Valve Index HMD I can't seem to pass 40 fps in DCS F/A-18C and I have to drop a lot of settings to keep it stable at even 40 fps. Is it just DCS World right now or would I notice better and more stable frames with the GPU upgrade? Outside of VR, I also play games on a 1440p monitor with a 144hz (up to 165hz) refresh rate. Thoughts?
  6. Ok, thanks everyone. I think I am going to save the $100 and hold onto my current CPU until the next overall build. On a side note, I just felt the FIRST effect of a game using ALL of my cores evenly and properly. Far Cry 3. I was wondering how my pc was running this new game so well and ran the task manager to discover the total CPU usage only at 35% with the game running almost evenly amongst all 6 cores instead of how most games run core 1 heavy and then a little on core 2 with nothing on the other cores with a total CPU usage at 95%-100%. First time that I have seen a game use multiple cores so well! I wish all games would do this. It is amazing!
  7. I was under the impression that when it comes to games that they could only go as fast as the slowest core. Which for me, is 3.0GHz, overclocked at 10% from my MB. (I'm not brave enough to try to really push it beyond what my MB will do for me.) Can someone explain why they think it would be a downgrade even if my current one, with more cores, only runs at 2.8GHz stock? Thank you everyone for your advice and help, though. It proves my point about how this forum is so great.
  8. Hello, my fellow pilots. I am considering a CPU upgrade from my current AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.8GHz (oc'd via the MB to 3.0) to an AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz. The questions are, 1: Do you think that this is a worthwhile upgrade? 2: I have only ever put in a new CPU in a new build. What steps must I take to replace just my CPU? I have installed new GPUs but this is different. Do I just need to update my MB's BIOs and then pull out the old one and put in the new one? Or do I have to reinstall win7, too? Thank you for your help. This forum is by far the best that I have ever been on. :D Edit, my current build (including the first mentioned CPU) has an AMD Radeon HD 6870 1Gb and 8Gb of RAM, all held together with an ASUS MB (M4A785TD-V EVO) and running Win7 64bit Home
  9. I realize that and agree. But the fact remains that many people have been looking to this thread for updates and to discuss it, especially since the official update thread is not updated very often. My concern isn't that it was moved from the World thread. I can understand why it doesn't really fit in there. After looking over the title threads, I have noticed that "chit-chat" is the "best" section for these threads, but it isn't really an ideal solution. People won't really think to search this section for places to discuss new content... Or maybe that is just me, I don't know. *shrug*
  10. To answer your question, as I understand it, the map of Nevada is mostly complete. The current focus and difficulty is perfecting EDGE, the new terrain engine on which the Nevada map, and subsequent maps (excluding the current Georgia map) will run on. No completion date or time frame has been given. I hope that answers your questions.
  11. This thread is no longer a sticky, either. Is the hope that it will be buried? I understand it being very old for people to have to answer the same questions over and over, but this really is the thread that I found most of my updates and information on Nevada and the EDGE system. Furthermore, if this thread is buried, someone else will just make another thread to replace this one, which has a lot of information in it; even if those bits of info are buried amongst hundreds of posts. I'm just curious as to what the intent of moving the thread to the section dedicated to "what relates but doesn't fit in" and unsticking it really was. :/ Unless they are moving all threads like this, asking for information and speculating on new and upcoming content, to the chit-chat section. But even if that is the plan, why unsticky the main big topics? But I don't really feel like threads about upcoming content really belongs mixed in with the music, documentary, happy holiday wishes, etc posts. THOSE seem like chit-chat :) Perhaps a new section is needed for threads such as these, because discussing upcoming content definitely "fits in" and is an important part of "gaming" communities. At least, that is my opinion.
  12. One thing does seem apparent. Since moving this thread the number of people posting on it has seemingly dropped tremendously. Not that there was a lot of legitimate news most of the time, anyway. But still, this thread is where I learned several new updates that weren't shared in official updates either right away or at all.
  13. It will still happen. When is anyone's guess. But I don't think it will be completely scrapped. So, don't worry about that, at least. Edit: My reason for believing this is that it has been mentioned that the map itself is nearly done (evidence a few pages back, said by Wags). The issue is in perfecting their new engine and they know that they need a new one. It is probably one of their main concerns and it would be a major problem and move for them to scrap their efforts thus far. Not saying that to do so would be impossible, but HIGHLY unlikely.
  14. Lock On & DCS: ATC? What's that? Oh, you must be talking about the Appalachian Trail Conservancy right? http://www.appalachiantrail.org/  I jest. I know it must be very complicated to simulate.
  15. My concerns weren't so much that it is taking so long (when they change it from simple new map to new engine, delays are to be expected). My concerns were over not being told anything for so long. This news may have been mentioned before, but it is the first time I have heard of it, too. Anyway, thank you, Wags. All I wanted was the small update just given. I also apologize for myself and everyone else straining to contain their excitement. I, at least, never meant to be annoying or whiny. I was just expressing concern as a fan and customer. I'm certain that is case for most. Whether or not they express those concerns in a polite way is another story.
