Hi all, been thinking about the Su-25T and its place in DCS. While I absolutely agree on having a free plane to try out new things and get the feeling of flying and all, I find the Su-25T's progression potential to be rather limited. Because yes you learn the basics of flight and combat, but in terms of systems and instruments it's kind of a dead end. It leads to the FC3 russian planes, and to the Ka-50. The Ka-50 shares enough with it thanks to the Shkval and the Vikhrs, the FC3 planes are...there, and they just share some of the instruments and all that. DCS is dominated by US modules, whose instruments, systems and philosophy is radically different to that of the Su-25T. Meanwhile, we have the A-10A. It's a plane that isn't just as iconic as it can get, but also opens the doors to the US lineup in DCS, specially to the A-10C. With the release of the A-10C 2, many people would like to try out the plane as it wouldn't be an old module anymore. Giving them the chance to see what a low-fidelity A-10 can do could very easily sell them the full fidelity module. It'd help the players to get used to the main US weapons and instruments, and use the famous BRRRRRRT gun. So why not replacing the Su-25T with the A-10A as free module? Or maybe having both (I know this is a bit of an stretch). As for the people who bought the A-10A, they will still have access to it as it would be the free plane, and they could get access to the Su-25T instead. The people who bought FC3 would have the same deal, replace the A-10A with the Su-25T in terms of paid plane. I think this could be benificial in the long run, as the A-10 would blend more easily with the rest of the DCS lineup, and it's a damn A-10. As much as I like the Su-25T, the advantages of getting the A-10A are pretty clear.

Okay I know this thread is kinda dead, but I asked Bignewy about this over the Discord server, and he replied that there weren't any plans on making the Kuznetsov available separately in any way. That ED may consider it in the future but that currently, it's a clear no. Not exactly his words but that's basically it. I thought people would like to know.

Hi, I was just wondering if it would be possible to add the option of locking the Datalink and/or JHMCS via the Mission Editor for the Viper. This way, we could represent in a more accurate manner Hornets from earlier periods and extend the possible scenarios of the airframe, as DL and JHMCS are a pretty modern addition and quickly ruin immersion for 80s and 90s scenarios. Maybe it could be a time-locked feature? As in, scenarios set after a certain date wouldn't have DL or JHMCS

Hi, Recently I was watching the famous Afghan War documentary and some other videos and I noticed something on the Mi-8 that we absolutely cannot miss in DCS. It's both a QoL and performance bonus, and it makes the Mi-8 even more amazing than it is right now. It's the one thing that prevents the Mi-8 from being used as the ultimate Spetsnaz battlebus: The mighty Armchair Please ED gib

Hey! Apparently it works now! So what I changed was: >Set Full Screen to TRUE and set the correct resolution in options.lua >Open via AMD software Thanks a lot Flappie, really appreciated. Have a good one!

Full Screen appears to be set to FALSE already...let me try with TRUE

New move in favor Aim-120? No R-27ER LA while they have it?
ResonantCard1 replied to pepin1234's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Chizh, are there plans to give the R-27 the AMRAAM treatment? With the fins' reaction time and all that modelled? Or is it going to be just an FC3-like modelling of the missile? -
Nope. didn't work. Launched from the Radeon software, still just a black screen with the music. Tried updating the drives, still nothing. Just to rule the possibility out, how would I check if I have any NVidia drivers installed?
-
Thanks Flappie, I'll try that. And no it can't be that, this is a laptop that has always had the same AMD GPU, I doubt I ever installed an NVidia driver by mistake

Hello guys, I've recently installed DCS via Steam on my laptop. Full clean install, literally just pressed the install button on DCS and left it running. The problem is that DCS doesn't fully start. After seeing the DCS World/Eagle Dynamics screen, it goes to a black screen and I start hearing the menu music. It doesn't matter how long I leave it running, it doesn't load the menu's graphics. I've attached the black screen (Not even at my native resolution, I've cut the task bar below) and the task manager windows. Log is also attached. Thanks for any help you can provide dcs.log

Sadly that's pretty much impossible. They don't have the manpower to work on all missiles at once and have them ready on a reasonable timeframe. Even worse if there are 3rd parties adding new weapons (HB, Deka) that require some work one way or the other. Beyond the SD-10 drama, people has been asking for an Spamraam update for years. If they even knew the silly R-27 was delaying the update of their precious missile...it wouldn't be pretty. It also wouldn't make much sense. I understand that from a player PoV, reworking all missiles at once is better. But from a development PoV isn't that great, as you'd have to be debugging a bunch of missiles with a bunch of new code on them at the same time, because they'd be broken or whatever. So it's better to just release them one by one, and that would also appease some people if their missile is released. About the physics and effort put on the missile I absolutely agree. I fly both red and blue and I would love to see the R-27 perform how it should. I know it's not going to become an amazing weapon overnight because it's still SARH and relatively old, but I'd like to at least see that the devs have put time and effort making it as close to RL as possible. Sadly I don't see it happening, for several reasons. First of all the documentation may just not be there, meaning the R-27 update may be handicapped from the start. Secondly, ED has shown the level of effort they're willing to put on red modules, I'm looking at the new Kuznetsov's CIWS. Keep in mind you're paying 50 bucks for that, the R-27 update is (supposedly, but I wouldn't be surprised otherwise) free. Logically they're going to put the bare mininum effort on it. Thirdly, there's no plane using the R-27 coming, which believe it or not is a big reason to start updating things. If the Hornet or the WIPer weren't there, the Spamraam update wouldn't have happened so "soon", as there'd be little urgency to update the missile. FC3 planes are FC3 planes after all. Lastly there's always the relative performance thing. The R-27 is already faster than the Spamraam, which should be, while having a shorter range. So everything is good! R-27 guys aren't going to be outranging Spamraamers, not even with the new CFD or whatever they are going to do. So are they really going to notice the change? The average Blue pilot is just going to launch and skate from much farther than the R-27 can hope to reach, so why put some effort into an FM change that is going to be unnoticed? Let me rephrase, why put some effort into a CIWS that you're barely going to see and it's not the focus of the paid module anyway? I hope by next decade we will see a proper R-27 simulation, but even then the extra range is probably not going to be very useful because we're going to detect the F-35s at point blank range, if we survive until then. I'm just not holding my breath, I know it will be disappointing
-
Of course. But this isn't just a simulator, this is also a business. ED is currently chasing the money, pretty much. And a family of old missiles used by old planes that don't bring the fat stacks of cash that ED wants probably doesn't look great for whoever is making decisions in ED.
-
I know the R-27 is not going to become magically as good as the Spamraam, but let's face it. They seem to be short on manpower, they have more "interesting" missiles to work on, like the Phoenix and the SD-10, and no FF Red plane that can carry the R-27 is on the horizon. It must be low on the priorities list, I wouldn't be surprised if ED half-assed the R-27 update. And what would be the issue? The R-27 is going to be worse than the Spamraam anyway, and most people use the Spamraam over any other missile so the change would be minimal, most of the people wouldn't notice it or even care about it.
-
I'm gonna be honest I don't think the R-27 is going to get an update as deep as the Spamraam's. That'd be a lot of work put in a missile that neither the community at large or even ED cares about. They'll just adjust the aerodynamic coeffs and call it a day
-
Has any of the recent updates broken the R-27? I've seen videos of several missiles missing in situations where they shouldn't miss. But maybe I'm missing something, idk. Just want to know if they are broken now, to see if the next time I fly the Flanker I should bother to take them or not lol. I'm looking forwards the R-27 update. But it's not going to happen soon. ED has to change the SD-10 now, possibly the Phoenix too. The R-27 is a low-priority missile for them at the moment, after all only the targets use them so why bother
-
Exactly. Although the most modern stuff like the Patriot or the double-digit SAMs would probably be out of reach due to classified information and stuff. But Hawks, SA-2s and -3s...those would be great. Would make the Wild Weasel mission much more challenging and enjoyable!
-
I don't own CA but my understanding is that you point with the mouse and shoot. I'd like something more in-depth, in-line with the system or at least procedure simulation that DCS provides with the aircraft. But this time on a SAM
-
Hi, given that SAMs are pretty vital to counter aircraft and that they are often neglected, could it be possible to have a SAM operator module? I remember there was this SAM Simulator thing, maybe something like that could be added to DCS? It'd add a new, extra layer to SEAD/DEAD missions and would make for very interesting missions ans situations. Plus it could be a way of adding IADS to DCS or as a stopgap measure for them

Confussion with the R-73 missile family
ResonantCard1 replied to ResonantCard1's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
So according to you, the R-73 we have in-game is actually the RVV-MD? However, the R-73 we have in game fits the description of the R-73E provided by Yefim (mass and seeker limits, haven't actually checked its range) and the RMD-2 description provided by the aforementioned site. Plus, if the RVV-MD was showcased in 2009, how can we have it in-game? -
Yes

Hello, I've been looking for information about the R-73 missile. I found Yefim Gordon's "Russian Aircraft Weapons Since WW2" book, where he talks about the R-73 missile. He specifies an OBS (off-boresight) angle of 60º for the baseline R-73 and an R-73E variant, with more range. I kept digging and ended in the russian wikipedia, which noted 2 different variants of the R-73, RMD-1 and RMD-2. Thing is, Yefim never even mentioned these, and the RMD-1 version appears to have way less OBS angle, 45º. These numbers are corroborated by this page, but I don't know how good is it as a source. The OBS angle of 60º, coupled with the weight and range of the variant, fit the R-73E version mentioned on Yefim's book, while the baseline R-73 version fits the weight and range data on the page but not the OBS angle (45º in the page, 60º according to Yefim). In both the book and the wiki page, the R-73M appears to have the same OBS angle of 90º. There seems to be some confussion about the variants here, and while it appears that we have the R-73 RMD-2 variant (according to the OBS angle) it'd be nice to know the exact variant modelled, and how do these variants work. If the RMD-1 was an interim/development version, etc. Also, now that we are at it, according to the Su-27SK manual, you can use the missile's seeker to lock a target, independently from the IRST. Would this mean an Su-27 equipped with R-73M missiles would be able to lock targets up to 90º OBS, even if the IRST is limited to 60º?

I thought the Phoenix was working like an Amraam now? Also how much range can we get out of these changes?

As far as I know ED is still working on the AIM-120. In theory, when they finish the 120 update they would move on to the R-27. I don't expect it to start in at least a year or 2, maybe more. Why? Well none of the planes that ED is doing/will probably be doing soon uses them, and not much people plays the planes that already use them so it can be pushed further back. After all they said they would be taking the development of most if not all the 3rd parties' weapons, which means the SD-10 is going to get a lot of attention. That's going to push the R-27's updates further
